I had my surgery done yesterday (bilateral turbinates reduction & septoplasty). For the dry mouth, I retained some saliva inside my mouth to wet my lips when needed. Lip balm work wonders with the dry and cracked lips. Eating and drinking is horrible when the packing is inside my nose because the pressure from swallowing forces blood out of my right eye. It was a weird feeling when I saw blood coming out from my eye. Sleeping upright didn’t help with the fatigue from the surgery. All these unpleasant moments will pass, and our bodies will heal over time. Looking forward to better breathing! ❤ positivity- share your tips!

If you buy a humidifier and sleep with it next to you it helps with the dry mouth from having to breathe through your mouth. I just got my splints out today. I had a 93% deviation so almost my entire right nostril was blocked. it was a little painful for the first few days but having the splints removed was the most uncomfortable part for me, but I can now breathe much better than previously. I would say that if you don’t have a horrible deviation the surgery is not worth it but if the deviation makes it hard to breathe than it is more than worth it.this was the first surgery I ever had and it was a decent experience even though I was scared at first

I had my surgery Thursday (it is now Saturday) I have headaches, and have pretty much been a mute for 2 days because my ulva is inflamed. Can't wait to breathe normally for the first time in my life. I'm 15 and it's so embarrassing when people at school have said I breathe really loud or am a mouth breather

i have done it 2 days ago .. and it is a lot of pain and its not easy at all you need to be strong and fight for the time after the surgery or operation whatever u call it .. 2 days after and my nose is completely closed .. i do all medicine that they gave me and nothing till now can open my nose .. the doctor gave me 10 days after the surgery so i can go to him and take off the plastics inside whatever you call it .. please if anyone been through this right down your experience.. because now i feel so so bad.

I didn't feel any pain in my nose, but u will have headache, sore throat and so on and it is because of general anesthesia. In general, u feel little bad for 2 days. From day 3 you start going out or sit and talk with everybody.

Any reason why my doctor removed part of the stitches and left part??, ps I just noticed I have a hole in my septum.

I had surgery septoplasty with bilateral turbinate reduction 9 days ago. The 1st night I did not sleep at all. I felt as if I was smothering. I have been very fatigue still taking naps during the day if possible. I feel a lot better. I still feel some soreness. I have the dissolving packing so my right nostril is still feeling stuffy. I try to flush nasal area out 2-3 days daily. The dryness makes my head hurt between my eyes. It get very tight. This has help tremendously. I am very thirsty with dry mouth so I am drinking tons of water. So far I do feel that I am breathing better. Can not wait until all the packing has dissolve.

Just had septoplasty w/turbinate reduction done 8 days ago (Wednesday, August 09, 2023), and I’ll add that I also had 2 bones removed from upper/lower part of my nose. This was because of an enlarged bone spur in my nose. Here’s my experience, and hopefully it “might” be able to assist on your road to recovery, and what you might expect, I realize everyone’s experience is different due to your pain level, so this might give you a rough idea(s) or what to expect at least. 1st night I couldn’t sleep at all, I was up up all night, I hope and pray this doesn’t happen with you. It was strange but I was miserable due to my nose filling up with mucus when I tilted my head upright to sleep. Mucus started to increase around the packing in my nose every time I put my head in a slanted to upright position. Had to sit-up and let it drain all night. I’m assuming it had to do with the “minimal amount” of packing in my nose, thank God I was able to remove the packing 24hrs after surgery. It would’ve been torture for me to continue getting little to no sleep at all, I couldn’t have done another night or at least thank God I didn’t have to do another night. Expect for an entire week to feel weak, tired, annoyed with just the whole process of it all, and with the pain of not being able to really blow your nose, and having a stint jammed in and up your nose for an entire week, and a majority of the time plan on being absolutely miserable, no joke. I’m not trying to be negative but it’s the honest to God truth, but the results after a week are most definitely worth it all. As if I need to really say this here, duuuh, be sure to take the pain meds prescribed to you or extra strength Tylenol, of course, you will need something for pain, which means you will get a prescription for pain. I had also received an antibiotic to take 3 times a day, 30 capsules. I decided to stop taking my prescribed pain med which was Hydrocodone - Acetamin 5-325mg (5% Hydrocodone and 325% Tylenol - Take 1 tablet every 4 hours). I had to end up stopping the prescription since it had Hydrocodone in it, and at night time I use melatonin to get to sleep, not good to mix the 2 together I was told. So instead I just started taking over the counter extra strength Tylenol. I was taking 2 - 500mg tabs every six hours (Your only allowed to take 6 tablets within a 24hr time frame, so I of course was popping 2 at a time at a 1,000mg, it definitely helped a lot with the pain, and it’s annoyance.) Thankfully I didn’t experience any type of pounding kind of pain either in or outside my nose. When I say pounding I mean the physical kind of pain if you accidentally hit your finger with a hammer, not that you would ever accidentally hit your nose with a hammer. Maybe if you were hitting something too close, I know, shut up, right? The pain just came from all the cutting that had to be done, it was like a burning feeling, it wasn’t comfortable at all, and after 6 days just the annoyance and pain of a stint jammed in my nose as well. As gross as it sounds, oh well, but get acquainted with your mucus, no boogers really, just lovely ole mucus. 😂 It sounds gross but I couldn’t tell you how many times I was trying to manually drain and get out as much mucus out of my nose with tissues or toilet paper. I’ve never picked my nose so much in my entire life, it didn’t matter, I could care less, any way just as long as I could get as much of it out of my nose as I could, but then again it will drain on its own a lot too, but for me not nearly as much as I was hoping it would. At times I was “gently” blowing, “gently” I’ll say it once more, “gently” blowing it out as well too, not that often if I could help it. My stints were stitched in, I’m not sure if they all are, there’s a few different types of stints. There will still be a lot of mucus left in your nose no matter how much you try and get it out. You just can’t blow your nose like you normally would though, no, NO. Oh yeah, get used to a dried up and crusty nose too, lovely, yep, absolutely miserable and annoying, oh how much fun, NOT! So this was mainly my miserable and annoying time spent was with having a plastic stint in my nose, so much mucus, dryness, and crusty, and not being able to blow my nose at all, oh so so much fun, yeah right, sure. Believe me after the 3rd day around my nose it looked as if I got punched several times in the nose because of all the dried up blood. Your probably going to laugh or chuckle at this one. I’ve seen on KZfaq where people are given an elastic like band to put under your nose, it looked a lot more better, and probably felt a lot better than what I got 😂. I got a folded face mask to put under my nose, I know, right, don’t be so jealous😆. I couldn’t deal with it, not because of how it looked, I didn’t care about that, but only because it put way too much pressure beneath my nose causing the bottom of my nose to rub the stint in my nose, not good. So instead at night, at bedtime, I wouldn’t of course worn this out in public, but I wrapped a long length of gauze around my head with some more gauze under my nose. I’m sure some of you, probably a lot, are laughing at this point. It was actually a whole lot more comfortable than wrapping things around the ears, and also it gave me the freedom of how tight I wanted it to be, tied it in the back. Not something you would wear out in public unless you were just craving the attention and wanting everyone to know you had nose surgery. They would be thinking, “Yeah, brain surgery too with wearing that crazy thing out in public.” I told my wife I was going to come visit her at work with it on, she said, “No your not.” I then immediately thought, “Yep, your right.” Thankfully I didn’t have any bleeding at all, just a whole lot of excess (from surgery) mixed in blood in most of the mucus, never a flow of blood though. I had no bruising at all, and with the natural eye you can’t tell whatsoever there’s any swelling. Now of course there is, and I nose my nose, I could tell a little bit by looking at it closely, but like I said nothing noticeable at all to another person. The wife and parents were quite surprised to not be able to notice anything. The first 4 days (From after surgery, 3 days after) it was tough, but on the third day I did go out to breakfast and that evening dinner as well. Clean nose of course, and of course without the Dr. Doodle Wink gauze wrap around the head, but definitely brought a plastic bag of tissues as well. For at least 6 or 7 days you will be tired and weak, I’m assuming this might be from not being able to breathe out of your nose too much, less oxygen to the brain. I was a bit absent minded at times, not often, just at times, for some it might be more often than usual, don’t be alarmed. Other symptoms might include: Dry mouth, chaff lips, teeth (gums) sore at times (not bad, noticeable), and during the process of your nose healing it will tickle a lot inside your nose. That’s all I can remember for now, if I think of anything else I’ll be sure to add it as well, don’t fret, things will gradually come back to normal, other than your going to feel like you’ve got a “NEW” inner nose, which will be new and interesting for you, something I’m having to get used to. Last but not least, this was very very helpful. Here’s how to sneeze/cough out of your mouth instead of your nose: To sneeze put both your middle finger and pointing finger together between your teeth, fingers not flat, but upright = like an equals sign, but together, both fingers pointing to the back of your mouth. This will prevent you from sneezing from out of your nose, only your mouth. Hope some of this will help, if you have any questions feel free to ask, after the seventh question I will have to start charging you a consultation fee, joking. It’s worth it, especially if you had as much pain as I used to have, so worth it. Breathing now is like 👍 having literally a brand new nose, it’s very strange feeling, but great 😊, and it’s only been 8 days even, and with no more surf board (stint) in my nose either, NICE! 👍

I have this surgery scheduled for next month. My right side is completely blocked off. Will I get stints on one side only or will both be blocked off? Reading the comments, recovery sounds tough and painful but considering my current situation, I think this is the only way out.

Not as bad as I thought, on my second night, but still a lot of discomfort to say the least. Breathing through your mouth isn't easy.

I had an appointment with the doctor today because I've been suffering with continuous nose bleeds and allergy. The doctor said that I have an extra bone in my nose or something and that I need a surgery. Is this the same.

It's been 3 weeks since I had my surgery and I still can't breathe through my nose properly, having headaches all the time and swelling and tenderness around my nose still, and a numb feeling in my teeth and gums still. Recovery is no joke, I wouldn't want to go through this surgical procedure again.

Too sad to see those pains, who suffers lot of pain, they know the real pain.

I had septoplasty and turbinate reduction 3 days ago...yesterday i had the packing removed ....i feels somewhat free to breathe...the blood from my nose had formed hard crustings in the nostrils....my nose and my teeth hurt like hell and they are so numb...i hope it all goes down...i want to breathe freely without pain....to all those going through this.... i feel you...

I had a turbinate reduction and septoplasty and they botched the surgery because when I came out of it they said I can go home once they find my dad and then when I sat up blood was gushing out and they started panicking and grabbed a bunch of tools and started digging in my nose and widening it and I didn't have any pain medication going or anesthesia obviously so I then had my splints removed and large packing put in place which hurt worse than anything that words could describe and then 3 days later the packing was removed and I was gushing blood again and then they did a bunch of stuff that hurt again until the bleeding stopped and then told me that if it bled like that again then they would be bringing me to the hospital for emergency surgery but luckily it didn't bleed because if it did I would have bled it rather than cut my nose anymore especially after days of it sitting with scabs I couldn't touch without tears filling my eyes so this was a terrible experience for me and I am now finally in the healing process that I should have left the hospital in originally, I don't know if there is a malpractice lawsuit that Im eligible for or not from this but if I am then that would be justice that I need.

Just got it done a few days ago…I have no gotten a decent nights sleep due to being a mouth breather again…I’m on day 3 of recovery and I’m seeing improvement with my breathing in my nose…I have another week till I can get the splints out of my nose..really hoping it works out cuz I really hate this discomfort

I have really bad nasal congestion and im only 14 to so Idk why I have it but it's in my right nostril and I cant even sleep I am having all the symptoms of a deviated septum an I really dont wanna get surgery it scares me really really bad I never had surgery before but I am seeing ENT on march 7 so I will know what will happen then

It’s been 5 days and I am dizzy and congested, I can’t breathe through my nose at all and I don’t get any sleep because I have been breathing through my mouth. I thought that by now it would start getting better, but it feels like it’s getting worse.

I got it done over 2 months ago and have seen no improvement in breathing or sleep quality. Has one seen benefits over a longer period of time?

I just had my procedure done 4 days ago and I’ve been suffering from facial pain, swelling and congestion. No paid meds have been helpful 😫 I just want my face back! Can’t sleep, can’t swallow can’t blow your nose etc

I had septoplasty turbinate reduction and a mini fess .Im 11 days post surgery I have a dry nose with scabbing.During the day I can breathe through my nose although it’s still congested and blocks up .At night I can’t seem to fall asleep I don’t know if it’s stress or insomnia but I sleep for 2 hrs then wake up don’t know why never had that before the surgery .I hope it goes away soon

It has been 12 days since I have had my septoplasty. I am really finding difficult to breath through my nose (I can breath out but cannot breath in easily so far). I am breathing through my mouth since the first day of the op which is interrupting my sleep. Really tough.

I had a deviated septum and bone spur when I was younger. I'd had difficulty breathing out of my nose. They did surgery....And they accidentally nicked an artery. I almost bled out 3 different times. I was on my way out. The part of it was one of the lesser pleasant experiences I've had. I had an aok nose prior. Now, the center of my nose looks off. And I have a deviated septum again as well as another bone spur. I still have difficulty breathing through my nose. They want to fix these things, but I REALLY didn't enjoy it my first go around!

After they take the packing out after about 3 days it gets a lot better. But it sucks a lot for those 3 days. Just got mine out.

On day 4 now and I still cant taste anything! So worried!

I had septoplasty and turbinoplasty. Currently on my day 10 after surgery. Still mouth breathing, beside being badly congested and inflamed I feel OK. However my lips are red and burning all the time from all that mouth breathing especially at night. So without all kinds of stimulants I wouldn't be very productive during the day. The sleep is just not there. Sometimes it feels like it's getting worse instead of better. So full recovery is not in sights.

This is a big surgery so why do they only give ibuprofen???

After 18 years of NOT able to breathe and smell I’m getting nose surgery on January 5th

I am gonna have the same surgery , I am so excited.

I kept swallowing pieces of blood for 17 days after my sceptoplasty, and the silicone splints that held my nose together after the surgery were removed 10 days after the surgery. I was still feeling weak and was only able to completely recover my full training form after a month. Plus, the general anaesthetic gave some memory loss within a month after surgery

Will my nose bump get smaller?

How is everyone doing on day 5 lol; I had so much mucus come out it and now I’m tired and hurting lol. Just took a pain pill and icing my forehead lol 😢

I had no pain, having nose stuffed with gauze the first night was miserable, no sleep, but that was only one night. HOWEVER, the surgery did not help my breathing. Regrets? Definitely. Waste of time and money.

Had my surgery 5 days ago. I have no bruising and no swelling but the pain in the first day or two was about 7 or an 8 out of 10 and the only thing they gave me was ibuprofen 800mg(which maybe brought my pain to a 5 or a 6 out of 10). My jaw was disturbed by the anesthesiologist and because of that, my ear and jaw on the right side hurt for about 2 or 3 days and the anesthesia made my entire body super sore to the point where I couldn't push open doors with my arms, so I had to back into them(ibuprofen did nothing to help with my body aches). I've had a constant fever ranging from 98.6 or 101.4 but I think I hit 101.4 because it's summer and I was sleeping under a blanket lol and I think I fell to 98.6 because I had a fan hitting my back but still, with this fever I've constantly been at 99.3 for about 5 days. With all that being said, I'm on day 5 and I still have a stint in my nose, but I can already feel that I have much better breathing out of the left nostril. My left nostril was really blocked and because of that I had serious trouble breathing and could only ever sleep on the left side so that my right nostril could work to its maximum so that I didn't have to breathe though my mouth when sleeping. What color socks did you guys get? I got purple.

I had septoplasty (no rhinoplasty). I had silicon splints inside my nose for 10 days after surgery (then they were removed), kept swallowing pieces of blood for 17 days after surgery and it was a month before I was strong enough to return to full marathon training

Instead of surgery, I rather do nasal, strips seems to work for me. 2 many horror stories.

Yeah, that's nice but mine took 3 MONTHS! Is this normal? My son had the same by the same doctor and his only took 3 days to fully recover. I'm 63. Does that make that much difference? THIS VIDEO WAS USELESS! THUMBD DOWN! Also, after 1 year, the problem came back!

My surgery happened Dec 7, and it’s now Dec 29th and my nose isn’t any better, my sinus on my upper forehead has a bulge in it and it hurts every day. My eyes hurt and I have tinnitus in my ears and their ringing really loud, and I feel oxygen deprived as my heart can’t keep up. I can’t focus at all. My inner nose hurts all the time. The best time for me is when I’m dead asleep cause I can’t feel anything on how fucked up I feel. I wish I never had this surgery done! Bad choice, never do this surgery it’s gets only worse not better and your nose feels fucked up as well as your face! Your face never feels the same way again after the surgery. This surgery I did is going to fuck my life up for good and it to late now for me! Don’t do this surgery it could save your life! I’m about to think suicide is my best bet out of this fucking hell I ignorantly choose!
