I'm one of the guys that pre ordered Neo, as a beginner I just liked the idea and the fact I could buy it not rent it !! in the last 12 months I have asked the team technical questions, I have felt bad about it as I know what they are going through, but they respond so fast and politely, and sort out my question, last week a corrupted file messed with Neo, crashing and freezing, they were so fast to respond and guided me through every stage of fixing it, fantastic, I don't know anywhere that you get that service. Hats off to the team.

One thing l will say about Luminar Neo is this - it's awesome! It's now my main editing program, after about the past 4 months of solid use. The highlight recovery tool is one of my favourite features. Neo has more than enough editing tools to cater for all levels of photo editing, from basic to creative and anywhere in between. An awesome video as always Anthony!

Thanks for this coverage. I bought LNeo in the first days, and of course was underwhelmed, so it was set aside and never given a second thought. Now, that you spelled all the updates out, and I did actually watch that last video of your wife in the woods (lovely), I'm stoked to try to catch up and use it. As an amateur enthusiast Mac user I started editing using Photos on my MacBook. I moved to Affinity to try and progress without going to subscription Adobe products. How could I justify such an expense as a hobbiest? Then along came Luminar Ai & Neo. Wow. I dumped Affinity even after investing time learning it for the ease and fun of Luminar. I finally have my affordable (even the extensions for me thankfully) fun, fast, photo editing software. The balance of cost and results I want is perfect. And with people like you, Anthony, to help us to improve even more, I couldn’t be happier. I am also team Ukraine 🇺🇦. I wish the entire country all the support and success you can get.

Hands down, Neo is the best raw editing software I have ever used, and I have been editing photographs since before Lightroom was invented. The interface is so simple and easy to understand. I have used countless programs over the past few years, and Neo is the one that has landed at the top. The only problem with Neo is that you need a computer that can handle the demands. One of my computers is an older HP Omen with a core i7, and it really struggles with Neo. My newer computer is also an HP Omen core i7, and it does fine. As long as your hardware can handle it, I HIGHLY recommend Neo.

For me, the biggest takeaway from this video is the fact that Skylum devs have pushed out a constant stream of improvements to the product over the course of a single year, and all while their country is at war with a military super power. That's just impressive. I have purchased a few photo tools in the past, and none of them have had this level of commitment. Great recap of all the updates that Skylum has released in just one year, Anthony. Hopefully they remain safe and can keep up the pace of these releases. My only real complaint with Neo right now is that it's still so CPU-limited. They really need to work on taking advantage of the GPU if they want to take the software to the next level. I have 64GB of RAM and a decent AMD GPU in my Mac (nothing that'll blow the barn doors open, but still decent), but Neo is obviously limited by the Core i5 processor. It's noticeably slower than other tools on the same system that can take advantage of the GPU. Right now, if I wanted to dramatically improve Neo's performance, I'd need to do a new system build with something like a 13th-gen core i7 or i9 or equivalent AMD Ryzen. I don't do enough serious photo editing to justify that right now, so it would be nice to see a new Neo that can suddenly take advantage of my system's GPU and see some serious speed gains.

I have i7-8700 with 32 gig of RAM + GTX 1070, and Luminar Neo is still slow beyond snail pace. Decided to upgrade to RTX 3060, and the program is still slow. I love Luminar Neo, but like you said, the company really needs to redevelop the software so that it runs smoother on "older" system. Also, Its System Info report says that my GTX 1070 has only 4 gig of RAM (8 gig is what it has). They told me that they realized the mistake, and were working on it (that was a few months ago). System Info still says that my RTX 3060 has only 4 gig of RAM, when it actually has 12 gig.

I got a 5800X, 32GB RAM paired with a 3070 RTX (even had a 3080 TI prior) and compared having the pictures on SSD, SD, HDD and NAS. Nothing stops the program from being slow. In later updates this goes to a point where it freezes my PC if i take to heavy AI tasks. I take around 200 pictures every 3 to 5 days (got a little baby so thete is much to shoot :) ). It takes the PC 3h just for the exports (around 100 of the 200 pictures after rating) using the same preset for all pictures. On my Notebook (i5 11th gen with iris xe) it takes the whole night. Some months ago i could not export more then around 30 exports in a row without the program crashing. In this cases you cant even tell where the program stopped processing the pictures. Yesterday i tried to export 280 pictures and it stopped at 265. Since its not easy to know which one it missed i exported them knowing i have to search the missing photos some day.. but stability improved to a somewhat usable state for me. I would really like to edit more but the speed is a real killer for me. I recently switched to a 61MP Sensors which did not help that much 😀 (irony off) But i also tryed nearly all of Luminars Competition (Lightroom, Capture One, ON1 Photo, Darktable and some others). None of them work as good for me. Most do really bad Auto Edits so i would neeed to retouch every single picture. In my testing the panorama features could also not hold up to something like Image Composite Editor or Affinity.The HDR features could not hold up to Aurora. Also these Database Systems don't seem to work good with other programs. So i take a combination of Bridge and digiKAM to durectly tag things into my files. Would be nice if Luminar could read out of Sidecar Files... i need to export it all into DNG files prior to editing.. and i use colors instead of star ratings because Neo does not export star ratings. It is a real hate and love relationship between Neo and me. All this writing.. what exactly did i want to say.. nah.. i send it now.

The HDR in Luminar Neo is brilliant. I use this for my real estate business. I also used Aurora. The issue with Neo is that you are only able to do 1 room at a time where as Aurora was able to process multiple rooms. It would be nice to have.

I see what you did with the Cathedral Cove 😍 Re: topic, it’s only when I switched to the base Apple silicon that I’m beginning to use Neo again. The difference was night and day compared to a 2019 iMac with i3 processor, it was struggling and would hog the entire system resource. A 30-photo export is at least 3-hours wait.

I agree that being able to use the tools multiple times is a winner. Didn't think much of it when I first heard about it, but during processing, its value became apparent. As for Magic Light... it's not quite there yet. It misses many points of light. If they can find a way for us to choose which lights to accentuate, that would be terrific.

This remains my single biggest hurdle to using it as a 'daily driver'. It still doesn't offer full control and as trained as the models for various tools get, they'll always miss some things and then I have no choice but to backtrack and fix in another app like PS. And I can't trust it completely for HDR merge, personally still find Lumenzia in PS the absolute king there since it even mitigates the need for multiple brackets in most scenes thanks its incredible versatility and flexibility/control. But is Luminar Neo orders of magnitude easier to just jump in, edit and export? No question. It's getting there and it's giving Adobe a run for its money which is great because Adobe has been rolling major updates and features in part thanks to that healthy competition.
@fenraven
@fenraven Жыл бұрын
@@omnirhythm I still use PS for various things. In fact, I usually start there, but I always end up in Luminar, because it easily gives me the "pop" I want in my photos and better, faster control over how effects are applied. I'm looking forward to the day when I won't need PS at all.

I stuck with them and now a lot more satisfied. My editing skills have grown as Neo improved and your tutorials have helped too. My challenge now is to edit less and more subtle, together with more creative edits to add mood. I have appreciated you sharing your knowledge and experience, esp having experience with other editors. Luminar helped me get into editing and not be bogged down with a lot of time trying to learn eg photoshop and Lightroom. Are the more features you would like to see in Neo?

Hi Anthony, great videos. I think I watched almost all of them! So helpful! I've been following your commments on Luminar since a while and I'm thinking of switching to Luminar Neo, although I would still use Photoshop and Lightroom at least for a transition period. So the cost of the Luminar Neo fee would be in addition to what I already pay for Acrobat. I have seen that the Luminar licence is for life. Does this mean that you don't have to renew annually? What are the annual costs for Luminar? This information is probably somewhere, but I haven't come across it! Thanks in advance!!

I stared with Lightroom back in the days. In my humble opinion, unfortunately the pricing model of LR has become too expensive for a Hobby Photographer like me. That's when I switched to Luminar. I just miss 2 more features for my complete Happiness :) If I remember right, there was a feature in LR to compare Picture A vs B and the winner of A and B could then be compared to C and so on. What I also miss from LR is the ability to store the editing process of a Image , so that I can start over the editing for the same from scratch again (similar like presets, but just scoped on the specific image). I hope to see those features soon in Neo.

I agree with Anthony on the best feature of Neo - the ability to use tools multiple times. Its fantastic! I have tried to explain this to diehard Lightroom users but they just don't get it. You need to experience the flexibility of this feature to understand it. The other thing I really like is that every instance of every tool has its own masking ability. I've recently re-installed LR because of its DAM, but I find it a pain in the arse to use because of very limited masking abilities with only a few tools available in the mask. You also cannot re-use tools - another pain. LR does, however, have a much better export/print ability.

Happy birthday Luminar Neo! G'day Anthony What an amazing 12 months it has been playing around with Neo! There's one feature of Neo, everyone is taking for granted, but it's so easy to use, I take it for granted with everyone else🫠. What I'm referring to is the edit tab, you can change or delete any old tools so easily. I don't think there's any other programming that makes it so quick and simple to do as Neo. Also, the team at Skylum are producing this superb product under the threat from Russia and the invading forces. My hats have to go off to the entire crew... WELL DONE! Hi Don. I'm thinking a folder has been added to the Neo catalogue and then moved on your actual computer folder structure. I’m rooting for skylum and luminar neo but right now I’m hesitant to invest in the extensions because in head to head comparisons topaz labs noise reduction, sharpening, and upscaling tools beat the luminar extensions by a mile. Plus they’re a one time payment. Hopefully skylum catches up.

I just recently bought Topaz Photo AI. I originally subscribed to ON1 tools because they were cheaper and they were well reviewed. But when I did a side-by-side comparison of the denoising from Topaz, ON1, and Luminar, Topaz was head-and-shoulders above ON1's NoNoise and the Luminar extension and built-in denoising. I use both Luminar Neo and Photo AI right now. Very happy with that combo. Photo AI cleans up the image for me, and Neo lets me dial in the other edits I want. So just based on my own experience, I'd agree with you about holding off on the Luminar extensions for now. I don't think they're worth it if you already have Topaz DeNoise/Sharpen/Gigapixel, or Photo AI. That being said, Luminar's extensions are still very good, and if you DON'T already have Topaz tools, you should consider the Luminar tools. They are integrated well with Neo.

Also it has no DAM features anymore to the point that it does not leave star ratings inside an export or can't even read anything out of sidecar files. Which forces me to do some workarounds before and after editing. Also it is really slow even on really powerful machines. Still i use Luminar Neo (on every picture!) because the final pictures are awesomee and mostly faster (not the computing but what i have to do to achieve it) achieved then in any other software i tested. So i hope it gets to a point where i dont havce to do so many workarounds to use it. And please let them add panoramas to the extensions fast :D Since i entered the subscription, using these valentines deals, i hope they don't ditch Neo that fast.. Sry for my bad english.

Your English is great mate. I don't think Neo will be going anywhere any time soon. As I mentioned in the vid, I've heard them talking about future plans for development within the Neo environment so that's a really good sign.

@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks. Since i mainly got my english out of movies and fantasy books i am not aware how it sounds/reads to natural speakers. I really hope they keep up the good work. As much as i love Neo for what it is. It also leaves much to be desired. One example: As a standalone program without any "advanced" Database it should read and write tags correct. But it can't read sidecar Files. And for whatever reason it can't read star ratings out of jpeg or dng. This means: If i open a RAW+XML containing tags, stars and color tags. The expored jpeg contains no tags, stars and color tags. If i open a jped/dng containing tags, stars and color tags. The exported jpeg contains only tags and color tags.

Hi again Anthony! I have emailed you the original RAW photo, but as it is so large a file I had to send it as an attachment. Let me know if you have received it okay, it would be good to know how we can remove backgrounds from complex portraits like this! 😺 Regards from Felix the Cat. 😺

Thanks Felix. Just incase I don't get to make a dedicated vid. Let me quickly note the issues the software is running into. 1) It's not a usual object for the AI to recognise. It's very unlikely the Skylum team have fed the algorithm with examples of Red Indian's in full head garb. 2) the slow shutter speed has resulted in movement which records pixels around the fringe as neither 100% subject or 100% background but a blend between the two. This makes creating a mask exceptionally difficult (AI or otherwise) because the pixels are neither one thing or the other. 3) A very busy background that can confuse the AI I'm sorry to say, but that particular photo is just about the most difficult situation you could throw at the tool. It's certainly a great example though!

I do like Luminar, but the library manager still sucks. You stil can't organize, manage and import pictures from a SD card like in Lightroom. I would like to import all my photos from a SD card and chose which pictures I want to keep and which I don't want to keep. Just like in Lightroom. For me this is the biggest reason not to purchase Luminar Neo. I like the interface and I do hope they will improve the library manager in the near future!

Luminar neo should pay me. I got frustrated because I couldn't add multilayers of mist and fog. I sent them a email and they replied saying it's wasn't achievable at that time, but they would past it on their engineers. Your welcome.

Once neo gets phone editing, I am dumping Lightroom. I have visual problems and it is so much easier to edit from the phone.

Hi Anthony! Did you receive my email on my use of the Background Removal tool? 😾This is one thing I'm unhappy with. Can you comment on this please! Regards from Felix the Cat. 😾

Hi FTC 👋 yes I saw it yesterday. Sorry I haven't got back to you yet. There's a few things I picked up on. If you could send the photo file itself perhaps I could cover it in a video.

They have watered-down retouching to push-button solutions. You learn nothing from doing this. Yes, you may turn out some good images but you will never learn to think on your feet. It is the same with all AI software. This is intended for people that want to post on Instagram and have what they believe to be interesting images but don't want to put in the work. But if your goal is to be a creative artist/photographer stay away. Learning is built on experience.

Luminar AI was definitely aimed at simple photo editing solutions. For example the AI even suggested appropriate presets. Agreed this doesn't teach anything about editing. Luminar Neo is very different though with more of an empahasis on creativity. The AI and "push button solutions" are there to help speed up tasks that are traditionally time consuming - like masking. As Anthony has shown in many of his videos a creative vision is still needed. I'd recommend checking out some of his videos to see that Neo really is a lot more than a push-button solution. This one is a good example: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y6p_gtKer5veZo0.html&t

Michael: Thanks for the input and now for some advice if I may ask? I work at not-for profit club and we've not embraced Photoshop. It was considered overkill and expensive, not for year of use, but years and years of that monthly payment. Also are needs are modest such correct a horizon or a vertical or silhouette that needs relighting. So, now I read what you've said, and you saying we should not use Luminar? Am I reading that correctly? So my question is, what should we use?
@mvia236

@@Kit2Canada Hi Kit, I never said not to buy the program. My point is very simple. I feel there is too much of an emphasis on AI. If you do not learn the basics of things line Noise or Sharpening and you only use AI you will be making an assumption that Ai is doing a good job. It may and it may not. How do you know if you haven't learned the basics and only use push button solutions. There is a lot of free software out there as well as good programs at a low price. Most software programs do the same thing but with a different interface. Good luck with your photography.
