Hi David, It just brings the effect closer towards the camera/viewer or receeds it towards the horizon. Similar to the atmosphere depth slider.

Awesome masterclass Anthony! I watched it til the very end. So many great tips, and your premise is indeed simple and obvious: problem/solution. The only drawback is knowing when to stop! It is indeed easy to go overboard or realize you've spent wayyyy too much time on a photo, when you have dozens left in your "to process" pile!

I have a fujifilm and i shoot in both jpg and raw. but when i import my raw files in luminar neo, i am strugling with the profiles. Not only do i see it with the jpg custom film simulation profiles which should only apply to the jpg, I also have the problem that it seems to use this meta data and apply it to the raw file when in luminar. But i guess a bigger issue is that i cant correct it because i dont have the raw options. My file is seen as raw, i can see that in the top right in the properties of the file, but when i go to edit it doesnt show raw, meaning that i cant select a profile to correct it. What am i doing wrong? :(

Thank you for this tutorial; it's been very useful. At the end of the day, most of our photos are viewed on a screen of some sort. For me, that screen is a photo frame or a website, so JEPG is going to be the best. You have explained very clearly all the options, and I think I will try a little more compression and see how it looks.

Hey anthony, really enjoy all of the valuable info you provide when it comes to editing. I recently jumped from LR to Luminar and im in love with how simple i can get some great results. Although there seems to be something that luminar is lacking that to me is essential from LR, I cant seem to be able to edit with a reference photo like in LR. Am i not looking for the setting in the right place? Know if editing with a reference photo available in Luminar? Thankyou in advance
@AnthonyTurnham2 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's a lot more fun and intuitive to use eh. In terms of a reference photo, there's no feature as such. I'd just load it as a top layer and show or hide it as necessary. Or scale it down as a thumbnail in the corner as reference. Not ideal, but it'd work.

Thanks so much, Anthony! When u work on the photos, is it recommended for the photos to be on the c drive, or they will work if i have them on an external hard drive (an ssd external drive)? Tnx.
@AnthonyTurnham2 күн бұрын
They'll work from wherever. But the fastest drive with the best, fastest connection to the motherboard will get the smoothest experience. Try both though because the actual difference may be negligible.

Thank you, Anthony. I've just been toying with using Luminar or ON1 PhotoRaw for my edits since cancelling my subscription to Adobe, finally. I've been trying them both out over the last week and I've come to the conclusion that Luminar does a far better job of bringing out the details in the darker images than ON1. Now that I've managed to get a profile, thanks to this advice, I'm getting even better results. Seems like Luminar Neo is going to be my go to editor from now on. Thanks again. (Nigel)

Pretty sky's. Too bad you can't batch rename, water mark and export a gig for clients. Export also takes HOURS (LR 10 5 min). Tried this software for a week to ditch adobe. Impossible for volume photographers at this time. Guess AI can't rename more then a single image at a time. And yes I asked support directly, because I was surprised to say the least. It's kinda like having a pretty, sports car with great features and no steering wheel. I don't get it.

I Own Luminar Neo lifetime version, and now we are not able to buy the new extensions. Why should I buy this new Aperty if after we can't buy new extension as well. We will be stock with two software that will remain incomplete? Because I saw that if you click upgrade, it doesn't upgrade your software to the supscription model, it force you to buy a new one in addition to pay montly fees.
@AnthonyTurnham4 күн бұрын
Hi mate. I don't think there will be extensions for this software. I believe (based on my current information only) that it'll be an all in one. I have a hunch Skylum probably wish they hadn't introduced extensions and had of just added hem into Luminar Neo... so they will probably stick away from that approach going forward. (JMHO)

@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks mate. I think I will give them a chance with this new software. Maybe it will be what I'm expecting it to be. I've tried to like PortraitPro Studio from Anthropics, I've test 3 different upgrade but it still look too fake. I think Skylum does better quality softwares and more professional. Since I got Luminar Neo I've used it more often than PortraitPro and Paint Shop Pro.

Can you help? Have you any ideas? I have taken some portraits against a green screen. When I use Luminar Noe to remove the background, it leaves a green haze around the subject. It took a long time to get rid of the green, and the only way to do it is by using the clone tool, which is unsatisfactory. Is there a better way? Help, please. Jim

I dont understand why this isnt going to be an added extension to luminar neo. I thought the whole point of paying a subscription is to keep paying for the development of new features and increasing the value of the product we’re continuing to pay for. Its not a good look for them in my eyes.
@AnthonyTurnham5 күн бұрын
It's a completely different piece of software with a different intent. It's kinda like expecting Lightroom to be an extension for Photoshop. They're separate beasts built on separate engines for different purposes. Not the best analogy, but hopefully you get the idea. 😀

Thanks Anthony, great good review and well done for not spilling the coffee :-) As a seasoned portrait photographer who's spent more time editing in Luminar NEO than I care to admit, I've seen my fair share of marketing gimmicks. So, when I saw the pre-release offer of Luminar Aperty for a mere £179, with promises of 1,000 lifetime licenses and an approximate release date in September, I knew it was time to share some wisdom. Skylum’s FOMO strategy is a classic move, but here are five reasons why I won’t be falling for it this time. 1. The Classic Bait and Switch: Remember that time Skylum promised that Luminar NEO would revolutionise our editing workflow? And sure, it did - after several updates, patches, and a fair amount of hair-pulling. Now, with Luminar Aperty, they’re dangling the shiny new software in front of us, promising lifetime licenses to only 1,000 lucky (read: gullible) buyers. Fool me once, Skylum... 2. Promises, Promises: According to Skylum, Luminar Aperty is going to be the next big thing. But if history teaches us anything, it’s that these promises come with a side of delayed features and endless bug fixes. Anyone else remember the anticipated AI tools that took their sweet time arriving? I’d rather stick with my trusty Luminar NEO - at least I know its quirks. 3. Lifetime License? More Like Lifetime of Updates and addon's: Let’s talk about that “lifetime license” for a second. It sounds great, doesn’t it? Until you realise it’s just a way to get you hooked on the software, only to charge you for future updates. Lifetime licenses often mean lifetime of updates... but for a price. No thank you, Skylum. I’ll keep my bank account intact. Did I mention I spoke to my cat about potential future add ons 4. The FOMO Factor: Fear of Missing Out - Skylum’s favourite marketing tactic. They’re banking on the fact that we, as photographers, don’t want to miss the boat on the next big thing. But let’s be honest, how many times have we bought into the hype only to find out that the software is still in beta quality? I’d rather let others be the guinea pigs this time around. 5. Stick to What Works: As a portrait photographer, consistency and reliability are key. I’ve spent years perfecting my workflow with Luminar NEO, and it does the job beautifully. Why switch to a new, untested software that’s bound to have teething problems? My clients deserve the best, and right now, that’s what Luminar NEO provides. So, there you have it. Skylum’s Luminar Aperty might be the talk of the town right now, but this photographer won’t be buying into the hype. I’ll be watching from the sidelines, waiting for the inevitable updates, patches and hopefully better addon modules than those suggested purely in jest. After all, patience is a virtue - especially when it saves you £179. Cheers to all the brave souls who dive in; may your edits be smooth and your bugs be few!

I'm not sure if it's worth it since a lot of these things can be found in Luminar Neo. You have the Skin AI with Skin defect removal which is similair. This app must be on a whole other level to be considered interessting. The thing I really want from such software is missing it's Ai removal of Stray/static hairs on portraits.

Things like frequency separation, auto skin toning, high end retouching and contouring all done automatically are what pushes this into the realms for the pros who do portraits and beauty work regularly. It's going to be a big time saver for those people. For general portrait work Neo still does a good enough job.
