I honestly wish manufacturers would share more parts. Not necessarily for high end flagship models, but for the more common stuff, it would push prices lower, help them make more profit and massively improve maintainability. I really wish there was one car out there made only of off-the-shelf parts and completely open source. There are a few concepts, but no production cars yet.

Very misunderstood, surprised people never tuned the or added turbos the block and crank were special but rods, pistons amongst many other parts were essentially pulled from fords parts catalogue. Meaning that the specifications that were used to say, make the stock or even aftermarket forged pistons, did and do fit the V12 off the shelf. Crazy

I worked in engineering for 10 years on an assembly line. What most people don't realize about car manufacturers is that they almost exclusively assemble parts bought from suppliers, and they all have a finite choice of suppliers. That includes engine blocks in most cases (ok high end cars might be different there). No car manufacturer is making bodywork, machining engine blocks, cam shafts, gearboxes, electronic components, cutting glass, molding plastics etc. It would be impossible. They just order from suppliers and put it all together. That's just what manufacturing is. 😂

Fun fact: the VW head lights which were used as Viper fog lights come from a model which is part of another coporate tradion: badge engneering: they were first used on the Audi 50 (when Audi was mostly VW budget brand, yes, there was a time) which was also sold as the Polo I.

There is one particularly egregious case of parts bin sharing, and it's the first generation, pre-facelift, Land Rover Discovery. The headlights were from a Freight Rover Sherpa, the taillights were from an Austin Maestro Van, the chassis, door frames, and even most of the glass was from a first generation Range Rover, as were the axles, transfer case and the manual gearbox. A lot of the switchgear was from an Austin Montego, the door handles were from a Morris Marina, the heater vents from an Austin Metro. Even the V8 petrol was from the Range Rover, albeit earlier versions. The only new things were the bodywork outer skins, the roof and taildoor, some of the trim, and the 200 Tdi engine. In fact, the parts-bin sharing was done on such a cheap level, a lot of components still had the branding from the vehicle they were taken from!

The 2007 GS platform also housed the 1st gen Chrysler 200, which was just a facelifted sebring and basically an Avenger with different bumpers. Which ALSO means the junk undepowered 2011-14 GEMA 2.4L can do ALOT more then a 0-60 of almost 10 seconds, but the ECM is so locked down you cant do anything. If you take the exhaust header off of a 2011-2014 Chrysler GEME 2.4 you'll fine UNUNSED studs that are used on the SRT-4 Dodge caliber to support the added weight of a snail. and some EVO X Intake manifolds will bolt to the GEME 2.4 aswell. The more you know

Just because the Britz pronounce it that way doesn't make it "proper(ly)". We just take out the "U" syllable much like we shorten many words. Oh well....that's how we speak. The Britskis pronounce Cadillac like 'Ca-dee-lac', and we don't go around correcting them. And Cadillac is a French name, so....who gives a flyinfuck haha! But right, JagWIRE is just plain WRONG no matter where yer from. Jagwar or Jag-you-are is what it is.

I remember developing a system for a parts supplier in the UK to upload parts onto their eBay shop - so many parts compatible with so many cars.. I think there was a couple of starters that applied to something like 27 different car models from 9 different manufacturers... But it's not a new thing, my Dad's '81 G Wagon needed a new starter £415 from Mercedes or £115 from Bosch (just without a tiny 3 pointed star...)

Honestly, I drove a Dodge caliber and it's actually a pretty good car for it's purpose. Crazy to think it could've been a rebadged evo. And I never knew people hated on the evo X. It doesn't hold up to the legendary status previous gens had, but is it really that bad?
@rongchangwang
@rongchangwang 10 ай бұрын
15 EVO X owners here; I could say almost all of the EVO owners who I know, no matter which generation, never hated the X. After all, the S-AWC system on the X is so ahead of its time and handles so sharp even today. There are enough 1000hp+ 4B11T out there to prove its worth. 99% of the people who hate the X never owned or even drove them. Look at the new VAB WRX and the VA STI people even hated them for having the old EJ and not changing them; guess what? Now even the STI is dead and they all run off to buy a Toyota Zupra(funny they hated it for being a BMW as well). People will always hate whatever they gonna hate. And in 20 years, all the gasoline JDM cars will be gone, so what cars will they hate then? And given how much markup the local dealership demands on the FL5 CTR and GR Corolla, making them a $65K+ OTD car. I will happily hold my EVO (now standing at 36K miles) till the world's end.

I had a 2008 Volvo C30 back in the day, awesome hatchback! Busted a shock absorber and decided to run the part number in the web. I ended finding out the Mazda 5 used the same part for a third of the price. Also a friend of mine in Spain had a 2014 Range Rover Evoque Diesel with a damaged turbo cooler. We ended up finding out it shared the engine with a small Ford delivery wagon only available in Europe. He got it more than 3 times off the Range Rover price. Finally all the McLaren Supercars use a Nissan VRH35L racing engine redesigned by Ricardo PLC that uses Nissan Sentra's coils and Mitsubishi turbos. 20 bucks for the Sentra coils against 250 bucks at the McLaren website.🤦🏽‍♂️
