Eriksen was a difference maker in midfield. His forward passing was great and when combined with Mainoo, we were so much in control. This shows that McT needs to warm the bench... Rasmus my boy! I teared when he scored. I literally rejoiced with him 😢

Funny how we got one of our high class ball players back in the midfield in Eriksen and it transformed our build up play and ability to sustain pressure high up the pitch. Makes you wonder what could have been had we not missed so many key players for so long this season.

Injuries explain some of it, but the eye test still tells me this team is far off from where it should be and I still am not convinced that ten hag is elite. This single pivot system won't work unless we get elite holding midfielders like rodri (which we wont get). Nor do I think ten hag has the conviction to stick by his plan (we parked the bus against liverpool - the scarlet report is plain worong there). We can wonder all we want if we had fewer injuries, but any modern performance analyst/coach worth their salt would have seen the signs when signing old players/players that have to compensate for being short by being overly aggressive (E.g. Martinez -> Anyone remember Bailly?). The text below and stats is copy pasted from another article (ill paste the name below) Number of minutes played Shaw: 74.6% last season, down to 35.6% this season Eriksen: 59.9%, down to 42.2% Casemiro: 62.1% last season, down to 45% Martinez: 61.8% last season, down to 26% Martinez is a big loss, but the decline in playing time from the other three shouldn't surprise anyone. Casemiro and Eriksen were both 31 at the start of the season, while Shaw has never played more than 2,000 minutes in consecutive Premier League seasons. I don't think the injuries to these four players come close to explaining United's year-to-year decline, but even if they did, these are the built-in risks you take by acquiring older players like Eriksen and Casemiro.

HOJLUND!!!!! FINALLY the lad got a goal in the prem. So happy for him. Hope this sparks the goal machine. Very positive game, we didnt gave up. Fans were behind. But i still have my doubts about this team. We played so good because the pitch was very open and we easily made runs and created chances but when theres a low block team our creativity goes out the window. I think you are right in your theory.

Bro your videos are excellent. I am also a united fan and i am fed up of us changing managers. I also believe in erik ten hag, his ability to make changes to his philosophy to fit the style of our players is a sign that he is a very good coach. It is not easy to play different philosophies, but people don’t see it that way and they have a point as well. One of the main issues according to me is that we loose a lot of duels, lot of 50-50 in the midfield which creates turnover against us. We need more physicality in all areas of the pitch. If we can get a good midfielder with eriksen’s ability and a bit more physical presence our results will improve and we can build up properly.

Very good points. About sizes, we can at least trust that Mainoo, Hojlund, Garnacho, Pellistri and all the other younger members of the squad are yet to grow into their mature bodies. There was a time when Beckham, Scholes, Butt, the Nevilles et al were seriously lightweight and initially tended to lose their duels as well. Yeah, those youngsters back then were still good enough to win titles but I mention this just as a reminder that the young lads that Ten Hag is busy preparing for the future will be in their physical primes in another 3 or 4 years. Additionally, a few astute signings of physically dominant players will help the cause, of course.

One thing that I saw that was different this time was that AWB was helping out Mainoo in midfield while still outnumbering opposition players. In other games, the DM was left isolated while the two midfielder attacked way up high. When you come across a press resistant team they will always expose you in midfield and break out of the trap, outnumbering the DM and eventually scoring.

Bro thanks for the video. Indeed there must be communication with the players from the new management. I am very surprised at Rashford's performance, seemed like he replaced his battery with ever-ready engnerzier. That said means attitude is key for the players... you don't need the new management to motivate you? Look at the older players like Ibra, he is a pro. We need to see the next game or the game against Spur to know if the players are committed or still it is a one-game win habit. Else it is like one step forward and 2 steps back. Hope your videos come before end of the year and you need to start work lol. Thank you for the effort to keep us here looking out for your great videos. My friend very nice video analysis. You have touched on very important points.I kind of agree with you that the performance we saw against Aston Villa might have been due to a "shareholder bounce". Even though it sounds weird, it kind of makes sense. It's been quite a while I saw this United team fight back like that this season. If this is what actually happened according to how you suggested then it's good news! The players must be told in clear terms that it's either you perform on the pitch or you are not part of the new project going forward. Like I have been saying, I have been supporting Manchester United for well over two decades and I do want to see the Club challenging for Titles and Cups again. I have a feeling that getting Sir Jim Radcliffe and INEOS in by taking charge of Football operations of the Club is a good step going forward. The ultimate goal however is for the Glazer Family to be kicked out. Well done my friend.👍🏾

The appointment of sporting director becomes crucial from here onwards. The game highlights our deficiencies and shows EtH tactics can work albeit suboptimal with the current team. 1. Long term replacement of Eriksen would ideally be similar to Rodri and Fernandinho. The importance of this position is highlighted by City's form when they are absent. In our case, a younger version of Eriksen but with defensive qualities. This balances out our over reliance on "chaos" and bring "order" to our passage of play. 2. The backline needs a revamp as they aren't suited for high line defense and lacks communication for organizing offside traps. Build up tempo is also too slow and nervy which is why we struggle against high pressing teams and leads to too many mistakes in our half. 3. Creativity in the wing is severely lacking and is one of the reasons why Højlund isn't scoring as much because of lack of quality service. 0.1 xA from the wings is just depressing if you're a center forward. 4. Setpieces. Good Lord... it's a perpetual problem for us.

I think that's why EtH wanted DE Jong to replace Erikkson. But with all the shareholders turmoil there was never any stability for the current players and for those the club wanted to attract. Takeover will bring back focus.

@@QnA22 well, that's been the glazer attitude. Complacency sets in whenever the manager reaches champion's league. That's been the post fergie era cycle. They're more interested in band aid solutions rather than trusting the process of slowly but surely instilling a coherent footballing philosophy. It may be ugly right now and the temptation of simply firing the coach is there for a quick way out but it doesn't fundamentally address the problem that we're a hodge podge club for a decade so yeah, it will take time.

Points #2-4 are spot on! I like where you are going with #1 as it's clear that a press-resistant central midfileder will be necessary against hybrid high-press teams (e.g. Bournemouth, Fulham, Crystal palace, Everton, Newcastle) that are comfortable with sitting back which is ten hag's achilles heel. I don't care how good he is, but Eriksen will get destroyed in matches in those matches. I only have 2 objections: 1. Kobbie Mainoo seems to be made for this role. I agree with scarlet report in that his tracking runners in the defensive box is still immature, but he could be ready in 2-4 years. We probably need 2 such players,(like you say about rodri), just want to clarify that this is Mainoo's long term role. This leads to point #2. 2. I don't see united attracting De jong/rodri-level talent anymore and for the next couple of years. Realistically speaking, this team will not end up in the top 5 this season. Bayern (replacing kimmich and goretzka), Arsenal (replacing partey), Aston villa (replacing douglaz luiz if arsenal buy him) are all on the lookout for a #6 who is press resistant. Probably worst of all, City will definitely go for de Jong the moment he wants to move and is for sale to replace Kalvin Phillips and/or Bernardo silva (who is 29) and Kevin De bruyne (who is 32). Even Liverpool would love him as they too need ball carriers who can break a press. This is why I don't see Ten hag as an elite level coach (e.g. Klopp, guardiola, Emery, Alonso, Ange). These midfield targets are one of kind players that don't really need a great coach to excel. The real skill is doing it without a de Jong/rodri in your team!

@@pnau92 while not on a similar caliber yet, there's enzo le fee, maxence caqueret, nikola moro, youssouf fofana, pablo barrios. This type of "system player" is becoming more common with continental football. My opinion with regards to the midfield of the other coaches is that they are more built for balance. United's midfield is overspecialized in counter attacking i.e. "chaos" and extreme chance taking regardless of quality. So to balance it requires an equally specialized player in "order" spectrum. Mainoo, IMHO, is much closer a Segundo Volante rather than the traditional regista. In my ideal world, he would be paired with either of the 2 Bellinghams since he has the innate ability for opposition players to gravitate towards him and manipulate space for his team mates while the Bellinghams have the ability to "repel" opposition players i.e. central Raumdeuter.

Varane was always an Athlete relying on his physical attributes more than being a GREAT reader etc. Now in his older age and with experience, Varane has improved on his reading of the game, but it's not his strong point for the most point and I guess it's always been his weakness! That being said, overall he is our best defender and Evans comes second. Lindeloff and McGuire have different strengths and weaknesses but they're same level. Bruno showed his complete game here, awful in possesion in points, but also winning the ball in fantastic positions and playing some effective passes. Sometimes, we just have to sccept a players strengths and weaknesses. Overall, United increased the intensity, moved higher up to press and Villa struggled to play out and we took advantage of this and them playing a highline! Antony works hard off the ball which is obviously a good trait, but on the ball damn man 😅😂

I really like your videos, Scarlet Report. But I would really like to hear your take on some of our lost games. Like the game against bournemouth what is your take? Really missed that. Great videos though! GGMU

You mentioned about Sir Brailsford briefly, would love a video from you analysing Sir Jim and his management team and what they can do that the Glazers sh*tfaces didn't bother doing.

Hojlund, may goals start from now in PL for him. Hopefully his 2 wingers starts to learn to provide him more assists.

Coach needs to understand kobbie needs someone who can control pressure in the middle of he pack that's why his partnership with McTominay is absolutely not working. And also to know how box midfield works with a triangle move. All in all thx Mr. Scarlett report another time analyse target transfers

I agree that something happened before the game…a kind of “hey lads we’re gonna do something great and we demand greatness…either get on board or don’t.” I mean Rashfords performance alone told me someone said something to them. Dude was actually running back to his man, passing and looking more confident(or could’ve been fear 😂)

Great analysis brother. In my humble opinion your being too harsh on Varane in both sequences. 3:43 defenders are in a well organized line. Yes, Varane shouldve followed Watkins but Mainoo should’ve been next to Ramsey. 4:34 your expecting Varane to act as a shot stopper on a spontaneous play where his team lost his man coverage now he has to step out of his coverage angle to try to block the header towards the goal. Wan-Bissaka, Fernandes and Eriksen were all ball watching. Set piece defending needs improvement without a doubt. If your giving the benefit of the doubt to younger players don’t expect experience players to become Superman to save the day. Varane and Evans are proving to be an amazing tactical and technical sound partnership. Happy Holidays and I wish you a blessed prosperous 2024!

On your last point of this excellent video, I thought it was very instructive that one of Ratcliffe's first comments after the takeover was that it might take time to drag MU back to where they should be and that patience would be needed. I read this as indicating ETH would be given the time needed to effect change, provided markers along the way are met. This backed up stuff from F. Romano saying the club is behind ETH. I suspect you are right that the players have been told that the people whose careers could be on the line over the next few months are not the coaching staff but them, if they can't show they are part of the way MU will be playing in future. What happens with Sancho will probably be instructive.

Not sure if this new INEOS group are backing ten hag but gotta agree, they will be watching everyone. And INEOS probably won’t hesitate to get rid of someone if they aren’t pulling their weight, including ten hag or even someone like Rashford.

Keeping the 'Terrible Twins' Maguire & Lindelof in the squad is unacceptable when it's best to sell them for £30M each in January & replace them with Todibo & Lacroix both 23 6ft3 for £30M each can complement Varane, Martinez & Shaw game. That would be Excellent Business!

We can still make top 4 cos the players want it. EtH is the reason why we've lost so many games at the half way point due to poor team selection & poor squad usages so his Job is under review. It's best to sell Greenwood at £50M minimum, Sancho at £50M, Mount at £50M & Antony £40M. Get Rid!

Most of the EPL teams know that MU has a worst Keeper and they concentrate on attacking him (Onana) to win the game but that biased MU Manager doesn't bother to replace MU Keeper and expecting all the defencers to cover the screwed up Keeper (Onana). Purely blind and baised Manager (Ten Hag).
