I think we are let down by the 3rd CM choice to partner Kobbie and Bruno. We have Casemiro who is an anchor, a destroyer and basically suits transitional football because that was primarily how Madrid played (Kroos and Modric did all the technical work). Then, we have Eriksen who would be an ideal option for ETH's possession system BUT a 5-6 yrs younger version and then we have Scott for whom I feel very sorry and blame the coach who pushed him from an ST/SS to CDM. He just isn't a high-volume player uk, can't blame him. So, how do you expect ETH to set ONE STYLE OF PLAY when you have a squad of players accumulated from 4 different managers, their styles, and timelines. Logical right!? Maguire always looks good and he is lowkey elite when the play is IN FRONT OF him. He actually excels in almost everything when that's the case, aerials duels (never seen him lose one tbh), ball progression, long-range passing, closing down when necessary, and excellent box defender in addition to being a goal-scoring threat. So, last year we played a high line and that's why even Lindelof was preferred over him. So, now, I hope fans understand why ETH chooses to play a low defensive line because it SUITS Maguire, Evans, and Lindelof!! (would be suicide to play a high line with them) We must go for athletic, technical, and quick CBs (if they have these traits then they needn't be world-class names) and then I pretty much trust ETH to play a much more proper style but the MOST CRUCIAL signing is the CM/CDM who will partner Bruno and Kobbie. He has to be defensively sound, technical, and a hybrid no.6/8 so that he could have rotations with Kobbie. Basically like someone with few technical skills from De Jong and defensive skills from Casemiro (22/23 Case). Tall, strong, technically sound, young and energetic. If we get that right AND with a fully fit squad, I don't see why ETH can't be successful. Even if fans feel a new manager is needed, the squad needs to undergo a huge change to give the new manager tools to succeed, so why not give it to ETH who imo has brought the best of the available players in both his 1st and 2nd season. Just look at the in-demand managers right now, Slot, Amorim, Motta, Nagelsmann. Recent poor results have made ppl forget that ETH is EXACTLY of that mold. We shouldn't think of a new manager because we have a good enough manager and for those who are ETH out, it wouldn't be wise to enter this manager merry-go-round. Back the manager, let's be patient and trust the process.👍

I think Edersen from Atalanta fits the profile to partner Kobbie. Technically sound, athletic with good stamina and seems disciplined in the Atalanta system. He's fairly quick and looks to tackle cleanly rather than being reckless like Casemiro. He's only 25ish as well, so he should be hitting his peak years moving forward and could actually go up a level. I think the pace of the premier league wouldn't be an issue for him.

Wow someone with an actual football brain instead of the emotional drivel online. The fanbase gets on my nerves tbh. We slated Mourinho and Solskjaer for low blocks and boring football then attack EtH cause we were playing boring this season (he had to use Maquire, Evans & Lindelof) then absolutely BURIED him when he went back to his preferred system and we started scoring more but conceding loads of chances and goals. What do you want the man to do? Cook fillet-mignion with fish from the chip shop?

@@genghiskhanjunior9581 Yaa, he has a good profile. AJ did make a video on him. My only expectation is that INEOS chase "profiles" instead of names. That's exactly why our recruitment has been horrendous for the past decade. Our thought process was always like, "Let's see, who is the biggest name and talent on the market, Oh, it's Sanchez, it's Pogba, it's Di Maria, let's get them". Just 2 recent examples. We all know how Ole played with his transition style and he did very well in 20/21. So, what did our board do to help Ole build on that? Buy 3 of the most popular names on the market, Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo who all suited a diff style. When Fred left last summer, our board just didn't have a list to replace him, almost like they went on social media and saw Everyone thinking Amrabat is the best choice, because? He had a good WC so they went for him even if the loan fee was a ridiculous 8-10M. I hope INEOS "surprise" us with their signings. Even if Amadou Onana would be a decent signing for us, I would be disappointed by INEOS if they get him because that would be just lazy recruitment to not look outside PL for gems or great 25-30M options.

@user-ig1ps2mr2r I really hope we dont sign Onana as imo he's at his level at Everton, he's never a Manchester United quality player. I'm not saying Onana is a bad player and he's still young and may improve but he'll be expensive and probably cost more than Edersen for example. I don't believe City, Liverpool or Arsenal would take Onana as he's not technically good enough on the ball, look how Kobbie dispossessed him on the edge of his own box playing for England against Belgium. I believe Berrada and co can only make better signings moving forwards than the previous regime did because as you stated it's been horrendous for the last decade really.

Bruno channel running was really good. Thats where we want him. dropping deep can be useful, but we need him mainly in that second striker role. Left side is better with someone who will overlap, awb is either too slow or too scared. should either play amass or continue with awb on the right. its obvious how much weve missed a left back this year. casemiro still looks better in that center back position, facing the play, with less pressure.

That one chance we created when we recycled the ball and quickly played it across horizontally and Garnacho made the pass at the perfect time to Dalot who made a great overlapping run. If it was a left footed player, Shaw let's say, he would put it in the first time (not Dalot's fault). Seeing that made me feel so good uk, we clearly are capable of it!!

Nice to see you smiling AJ. I did like some of the fluidity with the attacks (Garnacho has to finish at least one of his chances!) and if Amad doesn’t start next game after having such an positive impact coming on in that game (and after ETH comments) I really just don’t know anymore. Defensively though I’m still extremely worried. The lack of fundamentals there is truly concerning. It’s a make shift back 4 but if we look at the back 4s we’ve had under previous managers, some players included like Dalot, AWB and Maguire - who have all played under previous managers- have never lacked that much in the fundamentals or at least haven’t consistently lacked. Did Ajax have any sort of defensive records or does ETH not focus on defending at all?

I think people are being harsh on Onana, I'm not sure he could see Bogle lurking so thought he could pass it in front of Dalot, in fact where Dalot had been standing a second before. Bogle sprints forward and Dalot is caught flat footed. Admittedly the pass was slightly underhit but that has been a trait through the whole team all season. More to blame is Maguire standing near Bereton but deciding he join 3 other defenders to stand in front of the goal, leaving Brerton free to recieve the ball and have time and space to put the ball away. Something he would not have if Maguire knew anything about defending apart from heading. Again, that is a trait Maguire and most of the back line have shown all season. Do they not have cut backs in Holland ?

Good video AJ. Damn that was good game in my opinion, I saw it differently than you. I think EtH made a big change in tactical approach: he start not correcting tactics for the individual qualities of the players, he starts to fit players into his tactics. Yes, different problems: lack of needed individual abilities in a lot of positions(most obvious progressive passes from CB), lack of understanding system and sometimes abilities to make it work( second goal), very “selfish” and not balanced attack (all players in front 3 want to score, Garnacho with Hojlund often was in same areas to score goals and both want to be “fox in the box”), but it works at least “not bad”, for me better than what we saw when EtH make a system to maximize Individual quality of the players. High press was better, def. line more often was higher, left wing starting to work, rotations was better, more chances, and simple just very beautiful football team…and Bruno…I was shocked with his movement to find a space and to manipulate the opposition, a lot of simple passes and still great creativity, very impressive. Hope that news about that Wilcox say to EtH something like “ no matter what, team now playing possession based football “ is true and we would see more of this.

We had most of the ball against sheffield last time we played. This is just what happens when better teams vs worse teams, they dominate the ball. I dont think the possession football wilcox rumour has any validity to it. We dint play any different in the first 60 minutes again coventry, we were just a bit better in the final 3rd this time. Better movement from dalot then awb on the left and bruno making channel runs.

@@user-kw5hj2rx9u Yes, dominated, but in system was more adaptations to the players qualities: more often lower def. line, Dalot on the right, Garnacho on the right, Bruno with more dangerous passes, don’t remember was Scott in the game against Coventry , but when EtH use him he’s often isolates him from the buildups in the first phase, in this game he’s drops more often and trying to play in build ups often then usually. Because of this adaptation MU often in matches with not powerful teams plays like a second number and dominated not full match, approach like somewhere in the middle with counter attack and possession based football, now it looks like EtH stops adaptations in his system for the players qualities and just put players who are the most close profile to what’s he’s need into position he wants: Dalot on the left is decision to comeback to EtH principle that Left wing for combinations and overload, Maguire higher is not comfortable for Harry, but needed to more compact structure, Bruno with different movements and a lot of simple passes and etc., in one game a lot of signs of different approach to his system, EtH can make this much earlier, it’s obvious decisions for his system, but didn’t, don’t know why for sure, but Wilcox can be the reason.

@@dmitriykrashev I agree that the team selection was better and moving players around, said so in my comment. But in terms of intent in the system, we saw this earlier in the season against worse teams, sheffield, luton at home, brentford at home, palace at home, forest at home etc. were just a little better at breaking down low blocks with some of the adaptations. In possession the line was higher, which is obviously good, my biggest problem with EtH this year has been the line, but OOP was still quite low, a lot of situations where the midfield was open. I think we should hang tight with saying that the intent has changed, we need to vs better teams yet. Burnley needs to be the same and then preferbly palace as well. then we can see in terms of when we vs newcastle and brighton. We wont do it against arsenal and city though, they are just better.
