All of these are not things that just happen once in a while. They are recurrent patterns we see in every match. It's very poor coaching by Ten Hag and his coaches. I absolutely do not understand how anyone says the players aren't doing what the manager wants and he can't find a way to combat that. He's a coach fgs.

Arteta and Pep play Advance chess while Ten Hag plays Intermediate checkers. It is easier for you to dominate in a Dutch league where your only expectation is winning the league. United is bigger than that.

Well, no worries, only 4 of the strongest teams left. Perfect time to hit your worst form. WHY can’t this expensive team pass out from the back, after all this time working on it? Why can’t they develop a short & medium length passing-based game? And learn to press properly? Because it’s too much like City?!? Are they too embarrassed to learn from the best? It was as if they had been told before coming out just how terrible they were and are all out of a job soon, no matter what...Massively demotivated. Insipid Rashford, Casemiro, Shaw, Martinez, Bruno = the bedrock of last year’s efforts. But this year & this game - injuries and lack of form from the stars. And it looks like they have mentally accepted their fate (though Mount and Amrabat did seem to try to muster some energy)... And the fans too... That they were so spiritedly loud and consistent, despite observing that awful fare, reminded a bit of the crazed support after Denis Law's notorious backheel. (The moment that finally confirmed my commitment as a small boy). The drive is to discount the immediate evidence but gather oneself to look ahead for the fightback in the distance, that cant yet be seen. No Dennis Law, but a Haaland - and the rest of the best- to push the final nail in?

14:16 mainoo looks lost here, why is he near Evans? I mean you could equally criticise Mainoo there as well as Eriksen surely because Evans can easily deal with the striker there, I've rarely seen a central or deeper midfielder take up the position Mainoo is taking up at that point and he should be close to Oliseh but obviously deeper so that he can't find Mateta with an off the ball run or run at goal himself.. Oliseh is the danger there and he's always going to stray left from that position, the isolated Mateta isn't an issue, so Mainoo needs to be 5 yards close to the centre circle because the danger is clearly going to be coming from Palace's left position with Oliseh never thinking of going right, he's always going to go left. Mainoo's positioning is all over the place constantly whether we're on the ball or defending and it was like that against Burnley last week too. We should never be putting teenagers who aren't really specialists at DM in our midfield. Let him develop elsewhere at least, in the U23s etc. Amrabat would not have made this mistake.

I’m still ETH in, however, I simply cannot defend what seems to be just an innate stubbornness to adapt the teams tactics… I understand the situation is so far from ideal for him that you gotta have some sort of sympathy. Most of us have heard the interview n his reasonings for not changing tactics, n like sure ok but surely he can the consequences now of not adapting ur tactics. Like now an improvised team is supposed to pull off the main team’s gameplay, which is alr difficult enough in of itself? If I c his unwillingness to adapt his tactics again I’m gna have some srs srs doubts cuz I can’t imagine any competent manager being this stubborn about a change of plans

Good analysis, I feel like ETH player narrow because of how slow our back line is. We're most vulnerable during transitions and when we're switching shape (Brentford were literally hoofing balls into empty space and daring our defenders to win a foot race) and Palace are a good transition team. There was an Ericksen switch in the first half to Wan Bissaka (maybe why ETH played him deep instead of Mainoo who doesnt have that switch in his locker) but thats AWB not Shaw over there so it went nowhere. It obviously didnt work but i see what ETH was trying to do.

Ten Hag is the reason why we lost. No ifs and buts. His insistence on playing his way with this team, decimated with injuries is the reason why we wont win. Him playing from the back with the players he had is the reason we lost. Also, him playing mainoo and erikson in front of the defense makes me question if he actually knows what his players are capable of doing. All he had to do was to play with just two forwards- Garnacho and Hojlund, and put an extra player in the midfield. If we dont have any, bring in someone from the youth team. This season we had the most goals conceded with the most shots taken against and we scored the least goals.

People say he isn't pragmatic which is the biggest lie I could ever digest. Remember the 4-0 trashing of Brentford, he realised that the technical and physical acumen of this squad is very low and he absolutely had to throw his possession ideas to the bin and adapt to the players. So, since that 2-1 win over Liverpool, his entire tactics last season were there to suit the players available. I absolutely agree that he has had tactical flaws this season but doesn't this show that our players aren't capable of playing in an expansive system were you actually need to be technically and physically strong!? Sometimes I feel ETH is doing the right thing by exposing these players. Bring in anyone you like, these players will fail everyone. While other clubs have built a team to play a system, our club is just an accumulation of different types of average players of different styles and age groups. Palace was using Alonso's formation and tactics and it worked brilliantly. 1 glance at how they shape up based on their formation and you can see we are in trouble with Eriksen and Mainoo in the double pivot. ETH is tactically clueless. No doubt we are struggling in defense, but that doesn't excuse our frontline where we had only 7 shots on goal, 2 on target with none from Hojlund. we had 4 players who were wanted and signed by ETH for big money ion thew starting line up, 5 if you include Casemiro though he wasn't ETH's choice...3 of them were subbed out for our youngsters and a loanee (another wanted by ETH and could have been bought by him if we had the funds). So basically more than half the starting lineup were his players with Garnacho, Mainoo, Dalot and AWB signed before he came.

If Klopp had this exact same team, would he be satisfied asking this team to gegenpress? Let's say the hottest manager now, Xabi Alonso, if we get him. Imo, his only biggest and most grave mistake was to push for Antony. Still, people don't understand why he did that. It was because we didn't have one single left footed attacker in the squad (Greenwood was out). Also, it was the board's mistake that they gave ETH the authority of the entire transfer strategy which just shows how incompetent our recruitment team is. If people blame the manager for overpaying for a player, then they can't be any more wrong. Casemiro wasn't really his signing, it was another panic signing. Martinez was absolutely brilliant until he got injured. Malacia was a decent option for €14M, but again injured. We overpaid for Højlund but he, Sesko, Kolo Muani and Ramos were the only top young STs in the market so that fee was justified. Onana's signing really made sense as De Gea's contract was up and it was time to move on after 12 yrs, yes it could be debate whether it should have been that a priority. Mount, again can't really judge because he has been injured. Eriksen, Dubravka, Butland, Sabitzer, Weghorst, Evans, Amrabat, Reguilon were either free or loan signings. Having almost equal loan signings than actual buys just shows at which horrendous level the clubs recruitment has been. Bring in Pep if you like, but it won't mean anything if the backstage setup is such

So Maguire, AWB, McTominay & Amrabat (for example) are capable of playing like City or possession based teams do? The answer is no to any one of four of them. The only one player that hasn't been a regular is Amrabat and that's because he's unable to play in the PL. Then we have Antony who seems to have been a competition winner when in possession. Casemiro who has got his lazy twin to play for him. Evans only back in training this week. Mount playing his first full game after long term injury. Eriksen whose legs have all but deserted him (can still do a job on the ball). These are the players that have had to be relied upon. None of them can play together and produce consistent performances for 45mins at a time, let alone a full match/stringing a sequence of games together.
