You forgot one way: If you write the clip a beautiful song and perform it, then the clip should be moved.

What you show that a lot of other teachers don't is that these programs give us so many ways of tackling the same issue, it's not always a strict workflow. Also you are always able to provide an example WHY we would want to use the variable ways of doing whatever task it is. thanks Javier :D

How to drag the layer to the current needle point without necessarily needing to drag? In after effects we use the [ and ] keys to do this. but at the premiere how do you do it?

I want to know how paste a clip as an insert, instead of as an overwrite. I often need to move a clip or group of clips a long distance, but when I zoom out enough to see the whole 30 min timeline, and try to drag the clip into place, it tries to snap to all kinds of different stuff and I end up cutting the clip into the middle of another clip. I'd love to be able to select and copy the group of clips I need to move, zoom out and find the place in my timeline, zoom in to the precise spot where I want to insert the clips, and press a key to insert the clips without overwriting anything.

selecting a clip and entering a number to move it blew me away because i looked for a way to make precise gaps without using silent clip insert, thank you!!!!!
@JavierMercedes
@JavierMercedes 8 ай бұрын
I’m actually intrigued by this because I’ve been trying to find real world uses for silent clip insert and I guess this is one. Do you use it for anything else?

@@JavierMercedes i think it is one of them tools for a very specific use, or for a very specific workflow and not something for the typical editor, maybe feature film productions use it, i can't think of a practical use for it other than placeholder gap

@@JavierMercedes i experimented with entering numbers to move things, and discovered i can also slip clips by typing a duration, i have to select both edit points with the yellow ripple edit marker and enter my duration, this is again redundant for most editors since using the source monitor to move the in and out after double clicking the clip or using the actual slip tool or using the keyboard shortcuts to slip frame by frame are all usually enough for most jobs, i'm just happy i have this option if i ever have to use it, both this and moving the actual clip with numbers reassured me i have total freedom in my workflow, so happy :) [edit] all these discoveries are not critical for me, but while working in premiere i get distracted from a project by thoughts about ""advanced"" actions of doing the same thing as the simple or direct way, which is why i initially clicked on this video, i genuinely was trying to scratch that itch of finding more ways of doing the same thing to feel i have enough options to use.

@@JavierMercedes sorry for wasting your inbox, you can safely ignore this comment as well, i'm just here because you're my current outlet for premiere stuff... anyway... i kept experimenting to find solutions for stuff that bugged me, i created a new dummy project for it and i found solutions for 2 BIG things that bothered me: 1.) duplicate media on import: i want to import media to an ongoing project using a designated media folder on my pc, i don't remember what videos i have already imported and if i have any i added to the folder afterwards but have not imported yet, afraid i'd import duplicates i made sure the button to enable duplicates on import is unchecked and manually tried to import existing files, they STILL got imported, turns out only when you import a folder and not specific files then it checks for duplicates, when you import specific files it just ignores everything. very confusing. 2.) reverting a subclip to be an instance to only one master clip: when you make a subclip you make it it's own individual master clip separate from the bigger one, i was looking for a way to transform it back to an instance of the original bigger clip, the "consolidate duplicates" option did nothing because their names have to be identical to be consolidated and being the same video source file is not enough, i have to convert the subclip to master clip in its settings menu, rename it to the other master clip, then it consolidates when i click the consolidate button... i'm sure no editor really needs to tackle these issues and i'm creating them for myself, i'm aware of that, i just find it cool and begin to grasp what i can do and what premiere is capable of helping me with, again so happy :)

Hey, great job with this video. What about nesting, That'e one way to move a clip, or how about moving a clip between sequences. I always wanted to know if there was a quick way to move a selection of a clip from one sequence to another sequence without clicking and dragging. Like a hot key to toggle the clip between sequences.

what i hate about premiere pro (compared to say sony vegas) is when you drag a clip, the image is not animated. The clip becomes transparent and you can move the transparent version of it but not the original. It really drives me nuts when i need to allign an audio track with my video, because you cannot see how far you move the necessary point of the video.

Really appreciate the comment. At the moment, the only way I can think of is to put you out bracket at the end of the timeline, hit shift O to move the playhead there and then paste the clip, but that isn't really a good way to do it.

How to you shift the clip in the visual frame, if you want the image to be just slightly to the right or left? My clip keeps snapping to more of a shift than I want.

idk if this counts, but right clicking a different clip and hit replace footage with the clip you want to be there instead. that technically would move the clip haha. as well as making the clip offline, and then re attatching a different clip in place of the originally offline media. (definitley out of the box but popped into my head while watching) Great video!

Any way to add audio back to the video clip in timeline once you detchad it? For example you are editing and need only video so you delete audio part and later realize you still need it!
@JavierMercedes
@JavierMercedes 2 жыл бұрын
Yup! I went a long time without knowing how to bring it back quickly but all you need to know about is keyboard shortcut for "Match Frame." (which is F) 1. Highlight the video clip on the timeline 2. Hit F for match Frame 3. drag the audio only in from the source monitor I show you how to at the 7min20sec mark in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jqiPp8VnsrjIcX0.html

I have had a burning question about clip movement to speed up my work flow: Is there a way to take a clip & automatically send it to the end of your last clip in your timeline? I will often chop out bits & pieces for my outtakes at the end of my videos & sometimes they can be rather small; yet, moving them all the way to the end of my project is time consuming & a real pain! Thanks in advance for any details you may have & love the video Javier!

The part where I use the number pad and input timecode would probably do the trick. You could also setup up a marker and hit M or shift M I think to go straight to it. Another should be set your out point to the very end and hit shift O to take your playhead to the end.
