Late-night television hosts have something in common: During the pandemic, they traded in their suits and ties for casual attire. They aren't alone. The days of wearing a suit and tie to the office were numbered well before the pandemic ushered in the era of slob chic. The confluence of relaxed dress codes and the pandemic means the suit may never be what it once was. That's probably a good thing.

@@bruce5868 not quite. the suit has always been a "status symbol" since its first inception. It got acquainted with the elite and trickled down. The idea of the suit being a uniform is more a postmodernist idea.

@keshavrao212 Unfortunately, most suits nowadays are made of cheap and thin materials. Modern-day suits are slim fit, and I can see why people say they're uncomfortable. They don't know that there are comfortable suits out there or can be crafted out of beautiful and comfortable materials like cashmere wool and silk linings. But most people do not care.

Suits can come off as superficial. Like someone thinks they’re better than you or like they’re trying to sell you something. It’s like trying too hard to impress. I think suits are most fitted for politicians, and more casual suits without a tie for finance or business people.

Completely wrong. Trendy people (of all genders) are embracing the suit. You only have to consult KZfaq to figure that out. Once out of the pandemic, dressing up will have a Renaissance. Also, consider the next generation who will completely rebel against their tattooed, downright crude, environmentally toxic fast fashion, reality TV slob parents and grandparents by wearing well made, quality clothing and embracing a much stricter code of personal manners. The pendulum is going to snap back fast and hard.

I see the issue mainly in a demand for insane margins. I love JCrew and they could sell a ton of suits, but they are too expensive - at over 1K a suit, you don't buy there often if you don't work in a suit only environment like Wall Street. Reduce your price to 500 Dollar and your suits will fly off the shelves. I might be wrong but I think the demographic that is willing to pay over a certain amount for a suit is simply pretty small.

Casual attire or hoodie makes a lot of sense when you want people to be part of your brand or make them believe of what you believe in hence you wear what a regular person wear, a sense belonging. While suit, creates barriers, intimidation and has really nothing to do with winning the consumers.

so now the opposite is happening. people are not listening to the fashion industry but the fashion industry is following the people. So, that implies this fashion industry has not command or control over their way forward. Dictated by the whims of people. Suite companies are going belly up. But she does not think it is the end of suit. interesting.
