Thing about the X-Men is that they've always been about really, REALLY sprawling teams. Even by Avengers movie standards, the later movies couldn't match that expansive roster, hence why show like the 90s cartoon and Evolution were more adept at showing off the X-Men's diverse philosophies and abilities.

I wouldn't mind if they bring Fassbender and McAvoy back as mcu versions of Magneto and Professor X, they were pretty perfect casting imo. But i would prefer starting on a fresh with new actors

While Sir Patrick Stewart is amazing, I'm kinda hoping the MCU X-Men will be made up of an all new cast. I remember hearing about rumors of Bryan Cranston and Giancarlo Esposito being the MCU's Xavier and Magneto. That would be cool too.

My problem is more of "Will the Xmen divert the attention away from the story?" I think this should be a multiverse story at the center and I fear the cameos would distract from it.

I think they're going to do entirely new people when they finally do, The Mutants. Seemingly, it is going to be Illuminati Xavier so they wouldn't need to bring him back for other movies. In the beginning of X-Men, he would use his powers, money, & influence to cover up mutant activity, so given that they haven't appeared in the MCU, it seems like the safest way to introduce them; if you bring them from another reality or planet or something like that, it completely defeats the purpose of what they're supposed to represent. Instead they would be 'invaders' as opposed to naturally occurring genetic evolution, or stand-ins for people being hated for intrinsic things like: race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. I just hope Marvel does it well not the hodge-podge fucked up timeline/powers/story that we got from Fox.

I’m cool with the Fox actors being from the multiverse, but the X-Men in the main universe should be an entirely new cast (except Deadpool… and maybe Colossus from the Deadpool films).

If Doctor Strange ended up being good, I’m fine with whatever happens. Also, it had a one eyed tentacle monster, who is part of Strange’s rogue gallery, and that has my attention way more than an potential X-Men cameos.

I think no way home set up a very important thing: That a character can be quite different between different universes. So it would fit into the MCU to have X-Men characters who are completely different yet the same characters, the same way as we had three Peter Parkers who completely looked and behaved differently

Regardless of how they do it there's one thing I want: no Wolverine and no Magneto, for at least the first movie. At least one of them features prominently in every X-men movie so far and I think that a good way of setting a new franchise or a continuation of the old franchise apart, would be not including them.

I can definitely see them cherry picking the best elements of the Fox universe and then re-casting others or just introducing new characters that we haven't seen on film yet. I would love to see characters that were botched or underused like Psylocke or Kitty Pryde get new versions.

I think Marvel will cherry pick the "best" castings from the X-men and recast the rest, like they have done with Daredevil. The inconsistencies can be waved away with "different universe"

I like the idea of acknowledging the old cast while moving beyond them. I want the future X-Men/Mutant films to embrace the comics rather than looking at past films. I feel like the Spider-Man trilogy did that well so it makes me hopeful.

I always had a sneaking suspicion that Wanda will do a reverse of what happened in The House of M. Instead of getting rid of mutants, it might reveal mutants and every other Marvel property out of the woodwork; Scarlet Witch will be like Pandora opening the lid she wasn't meant to open.

I whole heartedly agree with you, Captain. Full Fat basically had the opposite take, and you really expressed my opinions well! To elaborate - putting aside the mangled continuity, actor age and fatigue - I think the Fox interpretation is a relic. Its limited and suffers from just being from a different era of comic movies. Its a bit incongruent with the MCU and and new interpretation and new cast just seems so much more appealing and creatively vibrant and exhilarating.

FINALLY someone said this! I love Stewart's Xavier and Jackman's Wolverine as much as anyone else who does but I dont want to see the MCU go in that direction. I’d really like if the Professor X that is brought back in MOM is from an alternate timeline, and just looks like the Professor X we know, like President Loki, who looked just like our Loki. This is because Professor X died in Logan, so it wouldn’t make sense to bring that version of him back.

Every time people talk about the x-men in the MCU, it's always "They should leave everyone in the past except [my favorite character]" or "They can just open a wormhole and bring over [my favorites]. Meanwhile I want a complete reset. No returning actors, no easter eggs, nothing. The Fox timeline is a jumbled mess with no real continuity meanwhile the MCU's biggest thing continuity being something Sony added into Homecoming. Let they build their own timeline how they want instead of "Wanda opens portal and now all of first class comes in".

My mutants in the MCU pitch: We take some inspiration from the House of M storyline, but instead of Wanda willing them into non-existence, she 'creates' them--becoming the mother of mutants of the MCU. It kind of tracks with her drive to find her 'children' and it really showcases the level of power she has.Tbh this was my theor for the end of Wandavision, but I guess the D+ shows can't have huge consequences for the films.

In hindsight, this move isn't as surprising as it would seem. On the possibility of recasting Doc Ock, Kevin Feige said you can't do better than Alfred Molina, and so he found a way to get it done. I believe he feels the same about Patrick Stewart's equally iconic take on Professor X.

Marvel needs to reboot the X-Men but with a fresh start and begin looking into the original source material for inspiration. Same with the upcoming MCU Fantastic Four.

Like, okay, a cameo’s a cameo, but I would hope it doesnt mean that Marvel isnt going to try to organically integrate their own xmen into the MCU. I think the return of Patrick Stewart is just gonna be for this movie. All of Phase 4 have up until this point has mainly felt like a victory round for Marvel, with returning to fan-favourite characters like Loki and Wanda in their shows to having all of these Multiverse shenanigans, not to mention Marvel finally giving some space for other characters like Black Widow, Hawkeye, again Wanda and Vision, and them being more reliable on bringing back characters like Tobey and Andrew, Daredevil and Fisk, even Darcy! So yeah, I think all of Phase 4 will set up a lot of stuff, but most of it is just Marvel patting themselves on the back

I think you're missing the bigger picture. The multiverse, much like everything else about Phase 4, is about looking back, paying homage, saying goodbye, and establishing the groundwork for entirely new characters. Patrick Stewart appearing in DS-MOM doesn't mean imply anything about the X-Men getting rolled over into the MCU proper, nor does it mean Marvel is going to keep going back to this well for the foreseeable future, nor does it preclude Marvel doing its own thing with mutants. Remember that the multiverse is all about "variants" so everything we see in this film could very easily be one and done. This version of Xavier almost certainly isn't the exact same character from the Fox films, but they cast Stewart because he is the most recognizable face to use for this version of the character, and the fandom loves him.

Oh Captain, my Captain! Clean slate! Thank you for being one of the few that aren't begging for them to integrate the Fox-men into the MCU. Those actors are tainted by the downward spiral of terrible Fox-men movies. I for one would like to see character appropriate actors, costumes, stories. Do the characters correctly. Why not both? I feel like Stewart's Xavier would tell Dr. Strange something along the lines of "look for me in your own universe" and then we could set up a completely new cast. An on-screen "passing of the torch" if you will.

I really like the idea of some of this movie taking a place in some universe where mutants exist. Lets say they do get displaced, these mutants would now be in our main universe we know. All the normal people from the main universe might feel a little indifferent or hostile towards the mutant population. (So it would be more in line with the comics)

Okay, hear me out real quick: Taron Egerton as Wolverine in MCU.

Personally, I think mutants do exist, but their genes are dormant. I feel like that might have been seeded in WandaVision, with only the twins surviving the experiments. Maybe she'll go to the other reality and find out mutants exist, and that she is one there, and things will click and she'll Reverse House Of M when she gets back to the MCU. Shes got some of the same energy as the stone that 'activated' her genes. I feel like it'd fit her themes of loneliness, and feeling if she wasn't the only one shed be more accepted. If its any stone energy, we could have Xavier and Magneto already. Hydra could have experimented on prisoners in WW2 with the tesseract, and Xaviers father was a government scientist that experimented on Xavier. A few little tweaks, make it the tesseract he used on him, and both Magneto and Xavier could have been around just laying low, and emerge as leaders and guides for the new mutants suddenly everywhere. They could do that with a bunch of mutants, too, just come up with reasons the stones were around and used. I mean, Odin really seemed to love leaving the tesseract here so

I've had the same theory since middle school about how the mutants enter the MCU. I've been thinking that the MCU is in a post "House of M like event" continuity. I think that the true state of this Earth has mutants and Wanda herself was one. My thinking is that maybe she used a similar spell to what Strange had used to erase Peter Parker, but she used it to lock away the X gene. Its possible that Wandavision wasn't the first time that Wanda changed reality around her to the point that she didn't even know about it. At the start of the show its strange because she seems to be seemingly unaware of exactly how the hex works, only occasionally snapping in and out to take care of things like Monica. Maybe the MCU is the world that she made where she locked everyone's X gene away, including her own. Maybe she gave herself a new family and life and made herself unaware of it. Maybe the "truth" that Xavier is going to tell Strange is that he isn't the first to alter reality in the MCU. By the end of MoM Wanda could be convinced to put the world back where it was, and this could introduce the mutants. If the MCU made the lack of mutants due to reality alteration and later restoration, this could also cover for how certain mutant characters are treated, like Wolverine and Apocalypse since they are supposed to be old and if the MCU just now got the X gene it wouldn't make sense for them to be around. A post Multiverse of Madness MCU could be a new frontier with new characters and events just existing. Like maybe Kitty Pryde is a college love interest for Spider-Man, maybe Wolverine fought with Cap. Like with how Strange erased Peter Parker, it seems that even all physical evidence of him vanished, maybe the same thing happened to the mutants. Also while writing this I thought of another idea; maybe Wanda trapped all of her memory/power into the mind stone, which would explain why it gave her and Pietro powers. Maybe all of the other test subjects were not previously mutants. It also explains why she saw herself as the Scarlet Witch in the stone, its not a vision of the future, its her seeing another part of her. I also think it would be fun if Wanda having messed with reality explains continuity errors or other things like Rhodey and Banner's recasts, Wanda's age inconsistency, and other gaps in the universe.

I’d love to see the MCU have a designated main character in their first X-men movie. They don’t have a great track record with true ensembles, so they would be better off I think choosing a character as their lead and having only the characters they are closest to as the secondary and basically everyone else as cameos (for now, to be expanded upon later). That lead should not be Wolverine, Professor X, or Jean Gray. I’d personally like to see Scott, Storm, Iceman or Kitty Pride take the lead.

It amazes me that the MCU can't use the already established existence of Inhumans as a loophole to introduce mutants. And I refused to believe that Kevin actually hate the AOS show. Fun fact: Marvel stole the concept of xmen from DC's unstoppable X, which was one of the first major comic series after batman. The main character was even named Charles and had telepathic powers

However the X-Men get into the MCU, I don’t care all too much. What I do care about is that they’re done correctly when they get there. It was the best-selling title at Marvel for much of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and I personally believe mutants are the best thing in Marvel Comics and have been since 1975. It’s wild that someone like Yelena Belova is more widely known at this moment in time than someone like Kitty Pryde.

If this is the X-Men, I wonder if the MCU will try reincorporating the Inhumans? Sure the show was awful but it would help with bringing Agents of SHIELD characters back and is heavily required for Ms. Marvel's upcoming backstory. The Xavier from multiverse of madness can very well be a more dark variant played by Stewart and the main timeline Xavier can played by a new actor. Just take what they did with Spider-Man, the MCU has its own take on the character but still brought back the old versions.

Maybe there are no mutants because Scarlett which killed them and because of that prof x being really conscious about her. If they use the house of m storyline they could explain why their were no mutants and simultaneously give a good explanation to bring them back

They can use a mix of the new class and singer cast use them in a Chris Claremont style. That's something they almost did with the Dofp flick. The parts with the future felt almost of they were torn from the comics / 90s series.

I have a theory that one of the end credits scenes is actually gonna be doctor strange going to the MCUs version of charles xavier. A younger version played by a different actor and its gonna be like a new take more tied into the mcu, maybe revealing some secret about mutant kind that has explained their absence up until this point

I think they are setting up Wanda to be an X-Men villain as well as a way to bring in Magneto. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Fassbender and McAvoy, I think they were both incredible for the roles, particularly in DOFP. Stewart may just be a cameo, being the 'Illuminati' Charles Xavier that watches the multiverse, but then introduce the X-Men with the 'younger' cast mostly reprising their roles. Wouldn't like to see ALL of them come back, but a good many worked really well. I think where the X-Men left off at the ending of DOFP opens the door for them to dive into almost anything from the comics, which the movies skimmed. Kelsey Grammar, James Marsden, Ben Foster, Famke Jannsen and Shawn Ashmore would be cool to have as the older original team of X-Men, then these next movies can bring in the new cast of the 'Uncanny X-Men' era where there is a wellspring of cool shit they haven't used yet and could put into the movies. I'd like to see new casting for Storm, Wolverine, Banshee, Nightcrawler, and Beast. No need to cast a new Jean Grey, the movies have done Phoenix to death, no one needs to see it again. Keeping Famke Jannsen as a Jean who has already gone through all of that could open some new doors. I think they'll let us get to know these characters first like the comics did. I also hope we do not start seeing 90s X-Men characters for a while... I find the 70s-late 80s characters to be more important, more grounded, and more entertaining honestly. My #1 hope is that they cast the roles in a more fun way than the films did. Though I enjoyed a lot of those characters I wish they were a bit more colourful: I want to see see a cool modern version of their suits, not the all-black the movies had. I also want them to keep their nationalities and accents! I thought that was such a fun part of the comics was how everyone around the world was facing the same 'mutant problem', which is also what brought them together. Disney has the money to cast this movie properly out of where the characters are originally from, and I think it would benefit the characters than the plain New York teens the movies had.

A new XMEN cast is needed, with the exception of Hugh Jackman as Wolvie. If he'll do it, he should continue to portray Wolverine, especially if there's a DEADPOOL X Wolverine film anytime in the near future.

Yeah I think this is probably a one time thing. Patrick Stewart is over 80, I just don't think he'll continue playing the role beyond a brief supporting role or even cameo. Maybe they'll bring back McAvoy or cast someone entirely new for the main MCU universe. Not all variants look alike, after all.

I think having the old characters in multiverse-hijinx cameo moments is fine as long as they don't stick around as assume the role long-term, and they let new actors come in and play new MCU versions of the characters

I would like a completely fresh start for the X-Men. Maybe keep the Deadpool side of things in tact, but everything else made anew. Keeping the OG Xavier makes sense for the Illuminati, but not for anything else.

There's actually a theory the professor X we'll see in the doctor strange movie is from the days of future past universe/ timeline that got erased. It makes perfect sense actually. Also, I'm sure we'll learn more about the main MCU mutants but I don't think Marvel will/ needs to introduce them in that movie. I think we're overthinking how mutants will appear in the MCU. They're definitely gonna played by new actors and it'll be a fresh take on the characters. The Fox x-men will maybe appear as cameos but that's it. But they definitely won't be our main mcu mutants for the simple fact that most of the actors are getting too old. Also, marvel would have to make sure every simple one of them wants to return cause you can't have the Fox Jean Grey and not the Fox Cyclops.
