I was actually quite surprised that some of the genshin Fandom got angry because of the names. I understand wanting to pronounce them correctly, but the names are pronounced that way due to localization. Its simply to make it easier for the native language (i.e. English) speaker to pronounce the word. This occurs in all languages, not just English. ( Beidou in CN is pronounced as Hokuto in JP.. etc. Etc. ) This is just proof to not listen to anything that Twitter kids talk about 💀

Fun fact: You know the guy that sells the Collei mushrooms? The "Master Chef"? Ashpazi? Well, in Farsi his name directly translates to "cooking" or "dish"!(dish like the main dish, not a plate) Farsi gets so little recognition in games that I was shocked to see it! Also, both my parents are Persian, and I found both their names in game! Edit: (some of)THE PERSIANS HAVE ASSEMBLED Edit 2: yeah I missed a couple such as Ahangar, but Ashpazi was the first that I saw since he's in Ghandarva Ville, and he was basically part of my first impression of Sumeru.

Arabic pronunciation for my non-Arabic-speaking brethren: Alhaitham: Al-heh-Thum (The Al is pronounced nicely in game. Just replace the "hai" with "heh") Dehya: D-he-ya (With a sudden stop after the ya) Dori: Tho-ree (with less emphasis on tho) Faruzan: Fah-roo-zahn (Not 100% about this one since its Farsi-based and not purely Arabic) (Try not pronouncing the h in Zahn. Treat it like a silent H) Layla: Lay-la (Done almost perfectly in game.) Nahida: Nah-hith-uh (the TH sounds like something between a D and a TH. Similar to how the word "the" can be pronounced as "thee" and "thuh" depending on accent and many other things) Nilou: Knee-loo (again done almost perfectly in game) Tighnari: Tigh-nuh-ree (The GH should like gargling water.) No opinions on the Latin ones because I don't speak Latin. Hope this helps

To the people who are saying that they pronounced the words better in Chinese or Japanese and butchered the English one, there's a pretty good reason why mhy/hoyoverse did that. The reason they pronounced it in certain ways is because it simply makes more sense phonetically in English, yes it would be nice if they used accurate pronunciation to say the names, however if said like that it would've made many English sentences VERY awkward to voice act. They want to prioritize a smooth experience instead of accuracy

Sumeru names are ones I’m used to, as a Muslim who’s surrounded mostly by other Muslims, we mostly have Arabic based names (I mean I do) so sometimes I don’t think about pronouncing it and I say it in an Arabic accent. And I used to have a friend called Layla I think genshins Layla is pronounced correctly enough

Kandake was NOT used as a name. It's literally a term for the queen back then. Candace is a name and her having them different eyes is clever and is just easy to point out the reference. So people saying Kandake is the only right way and there was no need to change it accordingly, is wrong

fun fact:many npc names in sumeru are persian or Arabic BUT there are some super messed up names for example sag literally means dog in persian. that means there's a dog in sumeru named dog or there's a chief in sumeru named ashpazi which means cooking in persian there are also not messed up persian names like parvaneh which means butterfly!

In Russian some of them are spelled practically like these. For example, we pronounce Candace's name like "Kandakiya". Same goes for Dehya :)

Localization of names, words, and sounds is not a bad thing. Every language on this planet does it. It is nice to know how words are pronounced in their native language, but just a reminder, don't attack people who localize pronunciations so that they sound better and flow better in the language they have been introduced to.

Alhaitham or Al-haitham comes from Haitham, which means "Falcon" in Arabic , so Al-haitham would be "The falcon". It becomes evident when you take a look at his constellation too :)

Just remember guys: the regions are only based on real places, they aren’t actually those places and therefore don’t follow those rules. Each Genshin character’s name is their canon name, so even if you’re mispronouncing how it would be on our planet, you’re pronouncing it correctly for the canon of the game

Rukkhadevata is pronounced Rukkh Divata in-game. However, it's derived from Sanskrit, with "Rukh" meaning tree and "Devata" meaning goddess or divinity. Rukkh is pronounced as it is, but "Devata" is pronounced De-va-ta (stretch out the e)

I’m actually Persian and have been pronouncing these names like what they were based off without even noticing, and i was genuinely confused when people online were pronouncing them differently. Also, Faruzan’s name may be based off the word “firuze” (fee-ruz-eh) in Persian which is kind of like a mix of turquoise and cyan. I think this is the case because of her hair colour. Also I’ve met multiple people irl named “Niloufar” so it was really funny first seeing nilou’s name, haha

I learned a bit of Arabic when I was younger so I can read and pronounce Arabic (somewhat) accurately. Since I primarily play in EN I'm already used to hearing to this dub's pronunciation of Tighnari (tainari), but I personally pronounce it something like "Tugnari" as a mix of both lol

The T in Tighnari and Alhaitham is pronounced using nasal. Since semitic language is pronounced not only with your voice, but also lung, stomach, mouth, and sometimes nose. So Tighnari will sounds like "Ztighnari" , and Al-Haitham will sounds like Al-Haiztham.

Candace is actually from an arabic name spelled similarly i don’t understand how people think she’s supposed to be spelled kandake since as you mentioned kandake comes from a latin word while this might be true but the reference of her name comes from the arabic derivative since as you notice all sumeru’s names and themes are arabic inspired hence her name is not kandake it is Candace ( سندس )
