I've noticed quite a few introverts around the minimalist community and I don't think that's a coincidence. Actually, minimalism benefits introverts in some very important ways. I share some of those in this video.

Yes I'm an introvert and need to spend time alone after interactions/busy or hectic times. I value the peace and tranquillity an organised and smooth running home provides and could not function at all if I did not retreat into my head regularly to recharge my system. My siblings on the other hand thrive in busy environment s and need almost constant company/interactions with other people. I benefit greatly from a minimalistic home atmosphere whereas they feel the more stuff they have around the better! I never made the connection before between minimalism and introversion but it is clear in my family.

Thank you so much for this video! I am exactly like you! My extrovert husband does not understand and my sister thinks I need therapy for it 😂. I have been working through my house this year, working towards minimalism, for exactly this reason. I need my house to be a retreat from the world. I am a chiropractor but I’ve only ever been able to work three days a week because I need a day off in between in order to recuperate my energy. I can only “people” 3 days a week. And people who say that they suffer from boredom completely puzzle me. I also, am lost in my own head every waking minute, how can anyone ever be bored? I need peace and quiet around me just so the conversation in my head can be uninterrupted 😂. Your video hit the 🎯!

You crack me up Cindy! I feel exactly as you describe. I can only 'people' 3-4 days a week too!😆 i currently work one week on one week off because of Covid situation and i really need that week off when i'm the only one home to get my energy back. With all the stress going on with all the covid related stuff, trying not to get sick, following rules and restrictions, dealing with frustrations, challenges with kids, school, work, etc. I don't think i can ever go back to full time.. My next week off i plan to continue clearing out stuff that is distracting me from being in my head and re-energizing. I might have to throw out some family members with the clutter as they keep distracting me from being introvert 😏 I love your video's Mia! They are such a calming, inspiring influence. Never really thought about the minimalism/introvert connection till now but that TOTALLY makes sense!

Thank you for this!!! I have just begun my true journey of decluttering and my main reasoning is how I have noticed it’s affected my mental health and clarity to have so much stuff!!! Love your work!

This resonates with me. It can take 2 or 3 days to recover from an event such as a wedding or a party where I have to do a lot of socializing. Afterwards I'll come home, lock the doors and hide! If I was doing this in a chaotic space I'd find it terribly upsetting. I find I am always looking for things to declutter and reorganize, as if this will help my mental space. In that respect it can be a curse, as I never feel like I have gotten everything pared down and fully in order.

Thank you Mia. People always think and want to tell me I am an extrovert but have always had a need for a haven to retreat to. Thank you for your wonderful advice on the holistic and supportive approach of rooms/ environments xx

Actually this is one of the reasons I broke up with my ex gf, the clutter of my place after I got off of work got me really stressed. After we broke up, I started to declutter a lot of furniture, now the place looks bigger and now I'm feeling less stressed.

Immediately makes sense. HSP means aural noise, visual noise, verbal noise, mental clutter, spiritual fog, time suck, all fall under the same blue mood umbrella in my opinion. Introversion or extraversion simply boil down to where you derive your energy. Jinx lol.

Yeah, I've never considered myself an HSP. I'm not emotionally sensitive, I wouldn't say. But here lately everyone seems really loud to me! I'm not sure if maybe I'm a little more sensory sensitive than I realized.

Whew, 4 months ago you got clarity! Congrats! Check out Susan Cain's Ted talk, and her book: "Quiet" and check out the MBTI. You are definitely not alone, the rest of us are just off recharging in our safe havens, and failed to come back out to remind the others: our culture definitely has an extravert-bias but do NOT be shamed or judged for who you are. We, like many other stigmatized groups, are born exactly as we are and as we are meant to be. People who want to label and discriminate are the ones in the wrong. We've got your back sis! ❤️

I'm an introvert and a minimalist.People around me are mostly extroverts and do not "understand" me.Minimalism is another story because is not "popular"in my country.Neither my husband nor my children are minimalists, but we are functioning well.I really love your videos and I often listen to them while doing my daily duties.I learned a lot from you and that's why I thank you.Greetings from Serbia.🙋

This definitely resonates with me. I struggle with expressing myself/ this specific topic with others within my household/ family. As I was watching my spouse happens to lay with me. My assumption was that the aha moment would arrive. Needless to say that didn’t happen. So thank you for giving me the understanding as to why this occurs within me. ❤

I'm also a new subscriber. So lovely to discover such an eloquent, graceful, confident introvert. I'm inspired! I feel like, taking a broad view of introverts in modern America, many of us have gone quiet, resulting in great contributions to the literary world no doubt ha 🤗, but also leaving us feeling rusty in such a crucial area as verbal communication. The ripple effect can be crippling or, as in your case, the opposite experience can be empowering. It sounds as though at some point, likely during the important formative years of your life, someone listened to and affirmed your voice. Many of us were sensitive to messages of rejection, that shamed how and who we were. As introspective observers of a world we found ourselves thrust into by virtue of birth , we were easily convinced of our essential wrongness. Many never recovered and some even died as a result of these unquestioned lies. Meanwhile, those who came dancing out of the womb celebrating their verbose mastery of the world and its social customs turned their childish curiosity on us, pinning us silent as dead butterflies with that common, cursed question, "Why are you so quiet?" The underlying judgement laced the query like poison, dimming our unique sparkle, the light that extraverts splash so loudly and proudly. And more power to them. I often remind myself that one of the many reasons I love extraverts is for the positive energy they bring, their natural shine that rubs off on others, at their best. The deep, mood color glow of our tribe is just as valuable for it's depth and resonant power, both to mirror and reveal. I think it just adds value of a whole different type of currency. There is no point in comparing. There is often more wisdom and lasting influence in silence than in a flood of inspirational or entertaining words. Well. Maybe not "often." I might have gotten swept up in my own rhetoric there. I think I'll take a break from the soap box now lol. Thanks Mia! 💕
