There are 4 types of welders. The humble welder that is naturally a great welder. The welder who puts his blood sweat and tears into his welds and they still turn out bad. The welder who was awful but with hard work is able to run a good bead. Lastly, The welder who believes they are the best welder who has ever lived but will fail every X-ray or bend test.

I really appreciate you going over that with them. I'm not in a trade but I understand the importance of knowing what your worth. They may see it as you just having fun with them but negotiating and knowing your worth is the real tool. They could be the world's best welder but improper negotiation and not knowing your worth will kill a job before it can even start

Combo'ed out of welding school about a year ago now and one thing ima let yall know is that the field is ALOT more than dropping your hood and welding, yall LEARN HOW TO FIT and it will save your life. Idk how many welders get on the job and dont even know what something as simple as a two hole pin is. Theres not always gonna be a fitter on the job and if you cant they're gonna hire a welder who can. One of my biggest complaints about welding schools is they dont teach shit about anything but dropping your hood and making a pretty weld

The overhead low hydrogen welds look good. I was working on a barge in Galveston Bay Welding on a pipe structure that was going on a ship there were a bunch of brackets along the side of the pipes and the guys welding them on all welded them different I got the lovely job of cleaning them up with a grinder and putting a cover pass over all the welds so they look the same. Anybody ever experience welding on the water with the sway of the ocean makes overhead real interesting.

I wasn’t the welder but I was the carpenter on the job, we had some steel overhanging lake for a dock/deck of a massive rock and was watching him work just swaying up and down in the current, I give the guy allot of credit it came out good, couldn’t imagine bay water or ocean, we just on a lake lol

Got these kids with pancakes, and even with their hoods,. Need to get them comfortable with a hood over a hardhat,. Most good size jobs nowadays require it. Love to see excited kids getting started,. I've been in the field for 30 years,. More on fitter side than welding but good welders are hard to come by. But fitters that have the welder in mind, on positions and accessible are pretty important too. Nothing better than doing things once.

That's good until you realize the company you work for is charging their customers $200 per hour minimum for your labor that you only get $19 per hour for.

@@dylanmorgan5589 If the company he works for has a building, office equipment, an HR dept, a legal dept, a marketing dept, etc etc then $200/hr may be reasonable. In California, a roofing company has to pay about 45% of a persons salary for state injury insurance. If a company doesn't control it's costs and wastes money people will use their competitor. If a person working for $20/hr thinks he is underpaid he can ask for a raise and/or go to another company. He could also learn or improve his skills to be more valuable to his employer.
