It's a lot to do with the education system - you have some states in America that want to even prevent teaching about slavery and thats their direct history

Many African Americans actually went back to Africa of course we know Liberia and Sierra Leon descendants who went but there were black Americans who went in the the late 1800s to Cong (Zaire) and they exposed the Congo Genocide. Look up George Washington Williams and William Henry Shepphard.

Americans are extremely ignorant, this has been my personal experience abroad. However, many Sans are mostly clued up on pop culture and not geo n history, fortunately or unfortunately for me I have a man who was born in USSR with one African parent and one Russian one. He is obsessed with doccies and war.

As a Nigerian who is now a NaijAmerican…. The problem is not only with the education system in US, parents have a role to also play. My mum is an African American woman who left the US to enjoy her marital life in Nigeria. And I could remember projects about different countries I have to submit to my parents. It exposed me to so many things. American education system is something else…. For God sake you are not the only one in the world. Lastly I watch nollywood movies because when plots of any movie is connected to other continents, you will notice the differences among the countries used. However, Hollywood plots hardly reveals and balances these differences

I failed dismally with the flag segment🙈 ... when the Cogolese flag came up, the first country that came to mind was Namibia. In my defense I had the red green and gold colours in mind for Congo, forgetting that the one I had in mind is for the Republic of Congo and the DRC flag is the one on the video ... 2 different flags . The second one I didn't even try 😅😅

Yeah South Sudan,I think it was founded in 2011 or somewhere there... there's also "countries" that are still fighting for recognition by the UN...these are Western Sahara(part of Morocco) and Somaliland (part of Somalia) It has to do with tribalism in service delivery but that's a story for another year

These were tough questions and the participants did really well answering them. In most videos where Americans are asked about Africa, they think Africa is a country. If you gave me a blank map of Africa, with only the borders drawn in, I can name all fifty four recognized countries (plus a couple of others that are not yet recognized) and probably 80-90% of their capitals. I also could have answered the questions about languages. But I would not have known a single currency, and I suck at flags, too.

I am South African and I am very knowledgable on everything Africa and it’s because I live in Europe and there are lot of Africans here and their culture is way big over here.
