This was AMAZING! & Exactly what I needed to see. Thank you for posting this. I'm highly considering going back to school for Interior Design as a "career change" so wasn't sure if going to "top school" was worth it, but you saying "no one asks what school you went to" just saved me $100k. Appreciate this!

WOW the education system in the USA is so divided and they're so expensive!!! I earned a Bachelor of Interior Design (4 Year program) from a university in Toronto, Canada and it was about $7k CAD ($5k USD) per year for tuition. Very informative video, great job!

Sandy Saintilus I go to BCIT in British Columbia and I will pay max 7k a year!! It's a well revered, fully certified design technical school. So interesting to see the differences and how it works across the border!

the tuition you mentioned for scad was only for one quarter and the 38091 they have mentioned on their website is only the tuition cost for 3 quarters ie they don't include housing or meal plans, if you add those to the tuition it would make abt 50000 dollars a year

I’m doing my bachelors in interior design and it’s about $88k for my total tuition in Canada! (I’m doing it through an accelerated college to finish in 3 years rather than 4)

You'll mostly learn the same stuff. It's the length of the program that determines how in-depth the curriculum will be.

Thank you for this, it really helps my research! Might I ask, does it matter if the school isn't CIDA accredited? Would love to know what you think!
@SandySaintilus
@SandySaintilus 3 жыл бұрын
Not to me, but some designers feel differently. If you check out my free download for top 10 schools you'll see that not all the schools are accredited.

Some of the schools that get hired from the most are not CIDA schools. I never really see anyone mention that it completely depends on what you're trying to do after school. If you want to work on houses, you'll be fine not going to a cida school, but you could also be fine if you want to do commercial design, but you just need to make sure that your program meets standards to sit for the NCIDQ. There are a few different reasons why a program might not be accredited. It does NOT mean that the program isn't good. The Rhode Island School of Design is one of the best schools for interior design. but it isn't accredited. A program has to be running for at least 3 years before they can apply for accredidation.

I'm a sophomore in highschool & I'm still learning about colleges and their options. But I was wondering what a college schedule looks like. I want to be an interior designer but I'm also interested in courses like environmental science, nutrition, and psychology. Would a four year plan be strictly for interior design or would I have room for off topic courses ? Also are there mandatory classes in college like there are in highschool ?
@SandySaintilus

At most schools you'll have at least a year beforr you get into the actual interior design program. During that year/ time you can take the other classes. When you enter a major there are required classes that you take at certain times. Sometimes you'll have room in your schedule to take additional courses but sometimes you're schedule will be pretty full. And some classes are only available to people in that major. It all depends on the school.

Hey Sandy, how are you? I love all your videos, thanks for sharing them. I have a question, what’s the difference between a certified NCIDQ bachelors degree holder interior designer and certified NCIDQ associates degree holder interior designer? Thanksssss
@SandySaintilus
@SandySaintilus 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Diego, to my knowledge these aren't degrees that exist. NCIDQ stands for National Council of Interior Design Qualifications. This is the organization that certifies individual people NOT schools. CIDA ( Council of Interior Design Accreditation) certifies schools.

@@SandySaintilus What I meant is: to be able to take the NCIDQ exam, an individual needs to have 6 years between education and experience, an example is: 4 years degree + 2 years experience or 2 years associates + 4 years of education, and I was wondering what would be the different at the end of the 6 years between the two options. My advisor at college was offering me to do an AS in Interior Design instead of a 4 years degree. (I just wanted to know an honest opinion from you, if you know something about it) Thanks again

Hi Soniya! You don't have o go to school to be an interior designer. You can take online courses that are MUCH cheaper than going to a university. A simple google search online should show ou some courses that you might want to check out
