How much does it cost to live in Mexico City in 2021?
This is our cost of living in Mexico City!
It's a question we've been asked a lot. Sometimes it's by people who fall in love with everything CDMX has to offer, other times it's people wanting to find outrageously cheap accommodation in Mexico.
Today, we talk about how we spend our approximately $2000 USD a month budget living in Mexico City.
Is Mexico City expensive? That's totally up to you and your lifestyle. Some people move here and spend half as much as us, while others spend twice as much on rent alone.
Thank you for watching!

This is great information. There are so many neighborhood choices out there and not having a car saves so much money. Plus all that walking is so much healthier!

That's exactly right! There are at least a couple dozen other neighborhoods in Mexico City I wouldn't mind living in. Also, not needing a car in a city with traffic like CDMX really helps because sitting in traffic is not ideal.

Do you have any particular brands in mind? I know they sell purina pro plan, royal canin, and hill's but i don't really know if those are grain free. There are definitely people who sell fresh pet food too. There are so many pets here i wouldn't worry about finding the right food.

This video was awesome guys! I cannot tell you how much I looked online to see the prices for dog items like food and grooming and you are the first ones that gave that info to us!!! Thank you! One question on that: when you travel and if you need to board your dog, do you know about how much it may cost? Say if you go to US for a week, how much would you expect to pay? Also, for the vet, for annual shots/etc - any idea? We are in Chicago and we pay $47 monthly for "insurance" (which only covers 2 physical exams a year) plus we end up paying between 100-300 USD any time we take him to the "physical". Plus $250 USD a year for flea and heart worm medicine. That's more than $1,000 USD in dog healthcare each year, and our dog is healthy and young now... Thank you :)
@sergtana
@sergtana 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And remember, grooming in this neighborhood alone varies from like 200-600 pesos so you can find a better one or a more affordable one depending on what you're looking for. We like ours because our dog is very happy to go, they do a great job, and our vet recommended them because they treat the dogs very well and are very experienced. Same with dog food, you could buy a cheaper one but we're happy with the balance we've struck between quality and price. That's crazy about the insurance! We don't need that here because his check ups cost around $25 USD (which is relatively high but we have a great vet). His medicine costs us about 250 pesos a month (12.50 USD) To board, I've only asked our trainor and he said he charges 400 pesos for every 24 hours. I think this is high for the area but since he knows our dog well, he only takes a few dogs at a time, and we trust him completely that he knows what he's doing we would go for him. I would expect to pay something between 250-500 pesos a day for boarding depending on what you're looking for.

Thing that i don't understand about cost of rent is that price per sqm in Mexico City is very low and apartments are so cheap but than on the other side rents are crazy expensive. In Belgrade (Serbia) for example you gonna pay 30% more for one square meter but rents are twice as cheap. To rent nice 2 bedroom apartment on good location will cost you around 500 usd

@sergtana
@sergtana 3 жыл бұрын
No it's not the same dog, we want to explain what happened in an upcoming video. For us, Mexico City feels like where we want to be. Much younger, lots of cool options for eating and shopping. Querétaro feels a bit more suburban and laid back. Seems like the ideal place to raise a family and we love it a lot but right now, Mexico City is right for us.

Thank you for this video. Very helpful as I am planning to move in next few months. Your video has given me real confidence in my decision. Can I ask a few quick questions. 1. The apartment with 3 other units mean 4 flats in one building? Or is 4 rooms in one flat? 2. If it's former, how many rooms are there in your flat? 3. Which neighborhood is this? Any suggestions if my office will be in Ave. Paseo de LA Reforma as I don't have a car...
@sergtana
@sergtana 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful. 1. There are 4 seperate apartments in the building. Ours has 1 bedroom but the rest have 2. 2. The neighborhood is Roma Be sure to check where on Reforma your new office will be because it's a very long road and on one end you have things like Chapultepec, Juarez, and Condesa. And on the other end you have neighborhoods closer to downtown and it changes a lot the further you go down. The former is what is usually known as more of the business district so I assume that's closer to where you'll be. Juarez is the most convenient neighborhood and it's beautiful! You could check that out or anywhere in northern Roma/Condesa would also be great. That area is very biker friendly so you can bike but also Paseo de la Reforma is very well connected by subway and different bus options. It's better that you don't have a car there, it's friendlier to the pedestrian. Tomorrow at 6 pm Mexico City time, we'll have a live stream specifically on answering questions related to moving to Mexico so if you have anymore questions, we'd love to see you there!

@sergtana
@sergtana 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe eventually we'll do a video but the city is fairly safe. Obviously that's relative. About half the city is safe and the other half is a little sketchier. The most important thing is to do research about where you want to live and the places you want to go. But also the city is very touristic so you don't have to worry too much about sticking out as a foreigner.

Lots of neighborhoods are fairly safe and there’s plenty of police surveillance. Nice neighborhoods to live in or visit are Polanco, Lomas de Chapultepec, Condesa, Roma ( yeah like the movie lol), Napoles, Del Valle, San Angel etc. I live in Napoles and pay half as much what these guys pay for rent 🙀
