I agree this is very reasonable and thank you for sharing this Martin, I'm sure that many folks will find helpful seeing how much are other people spending for their trip 🙏 Just out of curiosity, are you going to be staying mainly at the south of the island or are you planning to be driving to other parts as well?

Well.. My travel in March... 7 days.. Car.. Room always with own bathroom, food.. Gas.. Was around 2000 for each. I payed 400 for the flight. Also payed 150 for a long glacier tour ( 5 hours) and it was worth every cent. I can only recommend to choose long tours-not just the ice caves..

Thank you for sharing Zoey, I'm sure many fellow travellers will find this helpful! And great tip regarding glacier tour. So some 2.550 $ for 7 day trip. Out of curiosity, looking back is there something you would have done differently?

@@janiniceland well, im sure we could have been a way cheaper with the costs for sleeping if we choosed more hostels but all in all... I think we did a good Job. In summer I would definatly rent a sleeping van.

Hi Jan, thanks for this travel tips video. The idea of renting a van so that you can sleep in it instead of paying for other sleeping arrangements was good. Unless you stay in Hostels that can be your biggest cost per day. Do you know if when renting a car in Iceland do you need an International drivers license?
@PeteDarrell1972
@PeteDarrell1972 4 ай бұрын
You can also rent mini camper vans, like Renault Kangoo and other equal size ones. Much cheaper than the real camper or vans. Your driving licence depends from where you are. I know for EU members it's not needed to have an international one, but for US and other oversea countries I'm not so sure. Ask your local authorities about it, wherever you are...
@janiniceland
@janiniceland 4 ай бұрын
Hello Ben! I think it can be a good idea for those who don't mind a more adventurous travel and some discomfort. It also makes for much easier itinerary and just planning and traveling in general. Regarding the license, you don't need an international license if you're EU citizen like @PeteDarrell1972 says and I believe same goes for US. Here's also what I found : ,,If you have a valid driving licence with a licence number, a photograph, a valid date and in Latin letters, then you won't need an international licence''
@janiniceland

exactly, those little campers are more than enough for one or a couple. of course it is not as comfortable as the bigger ones but if you're not staying for more than 7 days I think it's good enough.@@PeteDarrell1972

Hey Jan, long story short... Option A: You need to be rich to come to visit Iceland! Option B: You come and live and work in Iceland, then it's kind of ok... I did chose Option B back in 2017, home and car included in my contract, as I told you earlier, but still damn expensive !!! Ok, now I'm in London, far away from cheap, but compared to Iceland it's kind of for free... BTW: You say you came to Iceland in 2017. What country is your origin? Just curious... Thanks for your upload anyway! Cheers... Edit: You say $100.- entry for the Blue Lagoon? Dang it! I paid €50.- in 2017 and it felt already much too expensive for me, while a local hot pool in Reykjavík or Mosfellsbær did cost around €6.-... ;-)

Hey Pete! I can't agree more. Option B was my story too, came here as a broke student, found a job and traveled around in my free time in a beat up old staff car and slept it or a tent. Good times! Yes 100$ is a bit too much in my opinion. I should have mentioned it is not exactly 100, it is between 83-126$ depending on a ticket and time you book. So many other pool options I never really understood the hype around it. And I am from Czech Republic :)
@PeteDarrell1972

Czech, ok... I thought somewhere from so called East Europe, but I don't like to guess too loud while I'm mostly wrong then... ;-) I would have never thought about to come to Iceland to maybe find a job and a living. I did that in Portugal earlier in 2003, broke, no place to stay, no idea what exactly to do there, but with all my stuff and plenty of skills. Worked out perfect! But to Iceland I only came because I was requested by my employer to come, triggered with all the extras in my contract. Otherwise I probably would've never seen Iceland... BTW: My country of origin is Germany, but I was never able to call it home, never liked it there since I was a little boy... I call Portugal my 'home', but now I'm stranded in England. Well, lol... @@janiniceland

Has anyone flown on Play Airlines? Is Play a good airline? Is it a respectable airline?
@PeteDarrell1972
@PeteDarrell1972 4 ай бұрын
I never heard of them! But if they go up and come down in one piece I would call it fair enough... What else do you need? EasyJet and Ryanair for example are junk, but just to go from A to B they are good enough while cheap and British Airways is not really any better. If you want to fly fancy chose the dutch one, Transavia. I was impressed about them, but that was in 2017. And of course, it depends from where you wanna fly. I know they did Holland and UK to Iceland plus Canada to Iceland. No idea about the rest...

Pete, thanks so much for responding. The only reason I mentioned Play Airlines is that of all places to have a hub, they have a hub 15 minutes away from my house in upstate NY. They are a low cost airline from Iceland of all places. Ive never flown a low cost carrier to Europe before, so I was curious. @@PeteDarrell1972
