in 1996, we were doing standard yearly refresh (I was aircarft mechanic, flightline) the m16. they showcased a 2 inch piece of plexiglass where it rifled through.. 100 yards. "you can't judge the power of an old gun with an old round... there is new rounds that are very powerful for the same old gun" that mile shot, does not even sound like a big sniper.. I did see the silencer muzzle, but still. I wold never have guessed it to be that strong. Cool video.

for a 3a to stop that at a mile out that is quite significant power loss. I fin it interesting that at a mile out it was able to do so much to the steel target. Just goes to show it can be easier to punch steel than a soft vest. The soft vest is able to move and soak up the hit where the steel does not move. It is why you can pop spinner with basically any round even seen them hit with a 50 bmg and not get destroyed just makes them spin very very fast. Puts some nice dents and gouges in them but they stay intact. Hit the same thickness and type of steel ate a mile away but a large target and the cheapest 50 bmg round will punch through
@GluedTechDude4 ай бұрын
Interesting the 3A armor held up at that distance. I'd be curious to see this test scaled up to include other rifle calibers at varying distances to test the stopping threshold of 3A armor vs rifle rounds.
@CMBelite-FRАй бұрын
it's a 1600m distance, the bullet is going to loose lots of velocity therefore the energy at impact will decrease a lot

Hi Edwin. Another idea for you. Can you fill a stud wall framed 16" (on center) (2"x 4" vs. 2" x 6"), with stone gravel to test rifle round penetration? 1/2" plywood exterior with 1/2" sheetrock interior and or plywood interior upgrade? Perhaps expansion foam and or sand mixed with the 3/4" stone gravel to retain R-value adding integrity. Try all the combos for that matter. I can imagine it would be a good way for people in areas where gang shootings are frequent, they could cheaply safely guard their families from drive-byes. I bet the stone gravel will have great deflection with minimal penetration. I wonder if the stones are better loose, with or without foam or sand? Love your videos...."I'm ready" Lol

@randallhoward32314 ай бұрын
Set chronograph behind sand bags. Leave an opening above the chronograph for the bullet to pass through. Cover the sand bags with reactive targets to zero in on the opening. Then you can calculate the exact amount of energy loss.
@randallhoward32314 ай бұрын
P.S. If you placed multiple chronographs side by side you could save a little time.

Hmmmm. Energy of a moving object - like a bullet - is mass of the object times the square of the velocity. Since the mass remains the same, less energy indicates the velocity has slowed. I don't think I'm good enough to use a chronograph at one mile, so someone else has to do it. By calculating the mass of the bullet times the square of the velocity at one mile, one could ascertain both the energy remaining with the bullet and the loss of energy getting there. I will probably never have to shoot anything at a mile. But I'm curious just the same.
