Hi Everyone, I thought it was time to be transparent about my finances for my Small Crochet Business. I recently did my finances for the 2022-2023 financial year and I thought it was a good change to talk to you all about my numbers. I hope this video will give you a bit of insight into how my business is doing, how far it has come, where I earn money, what my best selling products are and to give hope to people, that you can have a successful crochet business as well.
A little bit of background into my small business, I started it in February 2021, it was a very slow start. At the beginning, I wasn't seeing the results I was hoping for. However, fast forward 2.5 years, I now run a successful 5-figure business, with a goal to reach 6-figures in revenue.
I hope this video has been insightful.

The numbers always scare me tbh! I feel like my brain automatically shuts down when it sees a bunch of numbers, so it's always pretty daunting for me to face the music and see how the numbers side of small businesses are doing. It's really nice to see the growth you've had since you started! It's a good thing you didn't give up before, cause look at where you are now! 💖 Definitely curious to watch an Etsy vs. non-Etsy websites breakdown video from you since you've had experience selling on multiple platforms. Might be a nice video idea to do in the future? 😆

Yes!! I am the same. In the first year,my hubby actually kept a record of my revenue and expenses and updated me every month, then I said I need to do my own number so I am aware of how my business is doing, otherwise I wouldn't make any progress. Definitely will do a etsy vs own website as my next video 😊

This was very helpful. I would love to learn more about selling on ETSY. I’ve been hesitant to sell on ETSY and make my own website. So, any other advice and suggestions would be fabulous. Thanks 😊

Thank you for this video! Congratulations on the sucess! It gives me a bit of hope 😊 It's hard for me sometimes as I start comparing my shop to others and see that other crochet pattern shops are getting 100+ sales a day! And for patterns very highly priced too. I just need to tell myself that my work will pay off eventually!

Wow 100+ sales a day is very impressive ! I wish I got that too haha. But, yes, it is very hard not to compare, but I would say, treat that as a goal for yourself to work towards. Trust me, your hard work will definitely pay off. Especially when you design more and find your style. Good luck 😊

I've really been enjoying your videos Chloe, every time a new one comes on I get excited :) I find you very inspiring! I too went through a similar mental health battle a few years ago and am on the edge of getting out of it. Crocheting has helped me on this journey. After watching your videos I am thinking about monetizing it. I've thought about monetizing other hobbies of mine in the past, so I'm not sure if I'm more of a dreamer than a doer. I hope to return to this comment a year from now with a video similar to this one. wouldn't that be cool? anyways, I appreciate your content!

Thank you for being so precise and transparent! I look forward to what the future will bring to your business! For a video idea, do you think you could run us through how you plan your week? I know you've done videos about packing orders and planning designs, but how do you decide to delegate time to each task and what helps you stay on track?

Congratulations Chloe! Your video is so inspiring. I’m Yonna a former interior designer and now a SAHM. I have an online business on Etsy selling preschool digital printable that inspired by my son. I got addicted to crochet amigurumi in early 2022. Recently, I just happened to find your channel on KZfaq and I find that you are so inspiring and sincere. After watching your videos, I started to try out designing my own amigurumi which I always do not have the confident as I still think that I’m relatively new to the crochet world (designing still in process, not easy, alot of frogging to be done😂). Thanks for inspiring me ❤. By the way, beside posting your products on social media alot, do you run any Etsy Ad on Etsy to help you drive the traffic to your Etsy store or any other marketing tips that you can share?

Hi Yonna, so nice to meet you and for sharing your story too 😀. I'm so glad that you're giving designing a go and I'm sure your pieces will be amazing since you have a design background 😀. And, I know what you mean about the frogging, it hurts, but sometimes it just has to be done 😅. In terms of ads, I don't pay for any ads, never did and probably never will haha, I relied on my will power and belief that I could make it work just through my social media platforms 😅.

I’m wanting to start my own store but the tax parts scares me. Do you hire a tax person or do you do it on your own?
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen 8 ай бұрын
My hubby, who is a numbers guy, helps me. Currently, my business is too small, and I don't think it's worthwhile for a tax accountant just yet. You can use apps to help as well, like Xero (not sure if that's just for Australia). But if thr tax part is scary and confusing then definitely seek out an accountant

@@chloeeyuen I have been looking into H&R Block or even a website called Incfile. I’m not sure how things work for you in Australia but did you need to get an LLC or and EIN? Other then those and taxes is there anything else I should know about? Thank you for your help.

for me i think that number is reversed. how much i spend on product vs how much i made. do you still have to pay taxes on negative gross sales lol. whelp.
@chloeeyuen
@chloeeyuen 11 ай бұрын
In Australia, if you earn less than $18,200, you don't have to pay tax. I always keep track of my spending and make sure I make a profit so that I'm not losing money, at the beginning of my business I was definitely loosing money with my spending being greater than my revenue, but over time, as I stated, it started to look better 😊. And I can talk more about that in a future video in terms of material costs and pricing a product to make sure you receive a profit 😊. Definitely be patient and keep marketing your products on social media 😊
