If you're on the fence, always go for the extra storage. The last thing you want is to buy a $1000 iPhone that you intend to use for 3 years, only to find that after a year or two that your experience is significantly hampered because you wanted to save $100.

Honestly every iphone in this day and age of techonology should start at 256gb since most people do use their iphones for many apps and to take pictures and videos

I bought the Iphone 13 Pro in 1TB. The camera in this is really good, so having lots of storage is just like the way to go.

This video is very helpful so thank you. I've always got the phone with the most storage. I switched to the SE (2016 & 2020) but I'm pretty much a light use and don't need the bells and whistles. I got a great deal with getting a 13 mini but wondered if 128GB was enough. I wanted to make sure I was asking myself the right questions and looked at my current use. I was VERY torn between the 512GB and 1TB phone. I'm literally only upgrading because my 64GB iphone 11 pro is fully maxed out. I was ok with the regular 13, but I'm also unable to get 1TB with that device. I do take lots of footage for my youtube channel - tbh the only thing I use my phone for other than texting - and last week, I almost maxed out the 512GB. I do have my laptop with me all the time but I don't like to offload my phone every day. I also want to keep this device for as long as possible. Plus, I hate iCloud - it's absolutely hateful when trying to airdrop 4k footage longer than 5-10 mins. This has convinced me that 1TB is what I should go for. I went from a 256 to 128 when I went from 7 Plus to a 13 regular in pink. After 5 years with the 7 Plus, I still had 212 gb storage available. So I went down to save more money when I got the 13.

Truly helpful! I plan on buying the iPhone 13 mini and I’m upgrading from an iPhone 10 256 gbs. Went and checked the options i’ve got on storage and saw that there’s so much to free but also so much free space left. So after 5 years of using my phone i’ve only used around 60 gbs of it and decided to buy the 256 gb 13 mini alongside the iCloud storage i use for safety. My question here is,does it affect performance negatively if there’s less free space? Thanks a lot!

I went for Pro (non-max) with the 1tb in the end on the basis that I’ll end up putting the camera and video on best quality settings and intend to keep it at least 3-years. There’s nothing worse than running out of space and the Pro Res seems to eat storage - so I thought better safe than sorry.

This was an awesome video. Some of these questions, I was asking myself as I consider a 128gb or 256gb 14 pro. I'm upgrading from the 64gb X. At the time, even that felt like a lot (going from a 16gb 6!!), but now that's not the case since i've been deleting lots of pics and apps lately. I feel like 128 should be enough... but I do tend to keep my phones for at least 4 years or so. Since I plan to keep the 14 pro for at least 4 years again, 256gb hopefully means i'll never have to worry about space again.

Quick Edit: The Apple Store only sells the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini now, so keep that in mind. I’ve had my iPhone Xr for almost a year now, with the base 64 gb. I don’t take a lot of photos/videos, and I’ve done good with “heavy” apps such as Tiktok or GMail. I’ve only used around 33-31 GB of storage the entire time I have had this phone. Yes, I would sometimes have to offload apps and delete apps to save up space but I haven’t gotten anywhere close to filling out my phone space. If you’re like me, the base iPhone 13 128GB will be enough room for you. I think of it this way: if I have used 32GB:1 year, then 128GB could last you up to about 4 years of use until you have to upgrade. Please correct me if I’m wrong about that.

I am really confused and I don’t know which would be the right choice. Currently I have a 64gb iPhone 11 and am thinking of upgrading with an iPhone 13, but here comes the hesitation. I have 128g and I haven't been anywhere close to using all of it. I have 6,000 photos on my phone over a span of two and a half years but I do not use a lot of music or tons of apps. I maybe have about 40 apps. I also do not play games on my phone or listen to music on my phone. I do that on my computer or my iPad.

Just messages on my current iPhone take 12gb. If I want to keep them & keep adding more message history I’ll need more space

I’ve had my iPhone XS for three years now, and it has 64 GB, and I’ve used 36,4 GB of it. I’m planing on picking up the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 128 GB, more than enough for me!

I had an iPhone 13 Pro 256GB and was only using 64GB because I pay for the 2TB iCloud. I actually decided to downgrade to the 128GB on the iPhone 14 Pro to save $100 knowing I’m not gonna use up that storage. And interestingly enough, when I transferred my data, I’m only using 46GB. It stored a lot more of my photos in the cloud but I have 7,000 photos and 90% of them I rarely ever look at, so it doesn’t even make a difference in my day-to-day usage. Great video!

Absolutely love your video! it’s so informative and really helped me narrow down my decision to either 256GB or 512GB. I’m using my 7plus 32GB for 4 years now and currently maxed it out but I have 50GB iCloud storage and I’ve used 20 so far. And I’m not really a fan of the cloud as I would like my media to be available locally compared to always having to download it from the cloud + I live in an area where we have poor network connection. I have also made a ton of deleting (photos/videos/apps) through the years which was unfortunate because I love to hoard memories. Although I’m leaning towards the 256 since the 512 might be too much for me also conscious of how much money I’m going to spend lol Anyway, THANK YOU! 🙏🏼

After 2 years, I’m currently using 12.5GB out of 128GB. I don’t think I’ll need much since I’ll likely trade this iPhone iPhone XR in for the iPhone 13 Pro & will then trade that in for the 14. So I’ll just go for 256 because for resale, it will be more to get back & that seem like unlimited space to me since I don’t even use 15GB so far and that includes photos and everything. My phone is truly a tool for me, I use it to enhance my life, but am not married to it.

On my current phone, about 25GB is used by KZfaq music on my downloaded music and 40GB by games and the rest by school files and images use about 5GB and videos 10GB(I don't take a lot though). Apple doubled the base storage from the iPhone 12 which was at 64gb to 128gb on the latest iphone 13. I think 128gb is plenty storage and I haven’t come close to filling even half this so far. There’s plenty space for now and into the future and I haven’t had to spend more money what apple now offer as the base storage amount. 64gb may cause issues for some though I know many who could live with only 64gb but I like the leg room 128gb gives me as it can grow as I do.

Always increase the minimum. Storage space is not linear. The baseline operating system and default apps always takes about half of the available space of the minimum. You will only have half available. So, by doubling the space, you are actually tripling your space. Always worth it. File sizes are always increasing. Operating systems take more and more storage. Apps require more and more storage. The easiest way to determine how much you're going to need is looking at what the minimum amount offered is for a new phone and assuming that all the default stuff will take about half of that space. Then just go to the next size up and you're good to go.

This narrows it down to 256 or 512 for me. Going to 256 from the base 128 is a 10% increase; but, going from 256 up to 512 is a 18.2% increase on the iPhone 13 Pro models. I'd prefer 512 but I don't know if it's worth the $200 extra. Decisions decisions.

I’ve honestly no clue how much storage I need. I have a 32GB iPhone 7 Plus and I have to juggle offloading/downloading essential apps (I can’t use certain other apps I want, never mind games!) and I store all my photos, videos, and documents in iCloud, but even the compressed versions of the videos I have cause me to run out of space every other day. I cannot store more than one playlist without my phone auto-deleting all my downloaded music a few hours later, so I have to use my Watch as a makeshift iPod Shuffle for my music, audiobooks, and podcasts, but sideloading content to my Watch is slow and annoying, and listing to audio content directly from my Watch drains the battery, so I don’t like to do that unless I’m working out or otherwise don’t have my phone on me. So all I know is 32GB is not enough storage by a long shot. My problem is figuring out if I’ll need 4x or 8x the storage I currently have, especially since I plan to keep my phone for the next 3-5 years, until it stops getting iOS updates, or until I decide I “need” the features on the iPhone 15 or whatever. I’m going to the Apple Store on Friday (10/01) and since the base-storage black and white models are always the most popular, I’ll see if they have a 128GB model in Midnight. If they do, I’ll think about it more. But if not, I’ll take it as a sign from God and go for the 256GB one

I'm already using a 128gb Phone out of Which just 20 GB is left. The biggest concern with storage is when you will have to transfer your old valueable data to your new phone. My valueable data is 55 GB out of 82 GB total Data. Imagine what is left after transferring your Data to a new phone with 128gb storage. Apps will get bigger by the time and If you want to use a new phone for atleast 3 years go for atleast 256GB.

One important question also is where you live! Because if you are in one of those places (like Canada) where operators are still on prices of the 70's - that is, very expensive, then you may need (like me) to cut on cellular for listening to music, videos, you don't want your phone to interchange your newly taken pics with iCloud while on cellular... so yes: the obvious is that you NEED SPACE. I face myself with my iPhone 8 Plus (64gb) struggling all the time with space to stock music from Apple Music, cleaning and trading once every week or so to fight with an update because I have less than 2 GB left... My next phone will probably have at least 4x this 64gb, and I'm even thinking of the 512gb (rather than the Apple Care +), because once at this price range, my scope is going from 3-4 years life span to 4-5 years, so tech being what it is, apps will ramp up taking more and more space, so as their content. Another thing to consider is the resale value. Yes, it may cost £100 more now to jump from 128GB to 256GB, but you will probably get a portion of that money back, because the phone will have a higher resale value.
