I’ll also share how much the highest paying companies pay their interns…just as motivation for something you can work towards if that interests you. I may as well share what I’ve made so far: my first internship was this past summer, at an HVAC sales firm in Ohio. I worked in estimating and alongside the on-site applications engineer, who’d work with and solve problems with design engineers in the area looking to specify our products and help with other issues. For the summer, I made $17/hr for this past summer (gross), and I’m returning part-time for this fall, where I’ll get a $2 raise. I won’t get into my expenses too deep, but I drove ~15 miles to the office and went out for lunch most days. I haven’t been able to save much money due to school related expenses, but moving forward, I’m sure I can do better.

Bro! Mash Allah by now you have enough vids to make playlists. It's really helpful, because as a first-second year student, I listen to your videos for guidance, having someone's advice, someone to relate to... I tend to open specific videos to listen to them again! Especially the video of your future self talking to you :) So please playlist your videos, here is a suggestion: 1-tips before entering engineering 2-tips to study 3-life balance during 4 years of engineering 4-how to land a job or an internship, interviews, etc... 5- extra-curricular skills 6-destroying myths

Life is more than just a skill or a job. You should make videos on other parts in life. That doesn’t mean make vlogs, because that would still fit into a single category, just make things that will scream ‘FREEDOM’ in an exciting way, and not only will you grow more followers, your life and the lives of your viewers will change. Definitely something worth considering.

Here in Belgium you don't get payed for internships, even if u work for a giant international you won't get a penny. I'm doing 6 months and it honestly feels like i'm just free labor, you learn a lot in the first 2-3 months and that definitely feels like your getting sum out of it but for the rest is honestly feels like the company is benefiting from a free workforce, it's hard not feeling like that when you work for essentially nothing (Usually family owned businesses or smaller companies will give their interns somewhat of a reward)

Something I would like to see is a video on how to create an engineering portfolio, what platform to use, and what to put in it. This is something I have seen you talk about a lot and have seen as requests on several job req's and yet I have yet to have a professor talk about this. I am in my sophomore year, and am looking at trying to get started on this, but would like to see someone talk about it. I am the president of my schools ASME club and this is something I am also looking at trying to do a workshop on to help other students with as well.

In Barcelona (Spain), in my fifth year I earned 8€/h for my extracurricular internship (in a multinational company), which is the average among engineering students. The job was from 8am to 5pm (8 payed hours working + 1 hour for eating) and I did 768 hours from february to june. So a total of 6144€, -2% in taxes, around -600€ in transport. And I lived with my aunt and always brought my lunch, besides I had not many time to spent money because I spent the weekends and the rest of the afternoons doing 2 degree thesis (electrical and mechanical engineering), so in july I'd seen like 4800€ in the bank account. It wasn't a great salary, but if you are an early graduated you shouldn't expect to earn much more than during the internship :(

I live in the Philippines, one of the University here advertise company internship were you work as a factory worker. your being paid only 70% of the minimum work wage of that area. minimum wage was like like 260USD per month(that is 8hrs per day), 70% of that is 182USD You learn close to nothing as your main role is a factory worker(not even a machinist). Imagine your job is just assembling stuff or making that wire loom for a car. Yha, your learning engineering. I think companies are just taking advantage on students as a cheaper labor than normal people. I worked online as passed time during pandemic and earned more than twice than that with in 2 weeks.

How people in the US and Canada can get and, especially, have time for “internships” (full time jobs apparently with 40 hours/week) is absolutely mind boggling to me. I libe in Argentina, and university here is rough. No way you would get hired for an engineering internship at 18yo, and no way you would have the time to do that, AND do well in university all at the same time (not to mention do especially well with honors or whatever this dude surely has).
@KamyFX
@KamyFX 2 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought watching those vids. As far as I know, they have something called Co-op which tech companies work with the university and offer internships to the students, I know that the Canadian university Waterloo has 5 internships for their students with their Co-op program. So ig they take half the year for studying and the other is for internships or job experience which is really good instead the old system that we use...
@conradoaccardi9325
@conradoaccardi9325 2 жыл бұрын
@@KamyFX That sounds good, to mix in real work with university, but wouldn't that mean it would take you twice as long to get your degree too? Or maybe it is a program like you suggest but for the 1 or 2 month summer break?
@KamyFX
@KamyFX 2 жыл бұрын
@@conradoaccardi9325 from the searches I did, I think the internships last between 10 to 12 weeks depending on the free time of the students and the summer break and the college requirements. So I think they apply in the summer break, they study as normal then in the summer, they have time for internships. that's just what I know from google and vids so I'm not sure. that's very good imo, I wish the colleges in my country adapt to that system where students will graduate with a very good cv and experience and the best thing which is money too, I think some people go study in Waterloo in Canada with student loans then apply for their 5 internships program and pay the tuition from it.
@conradoaccardi9325
@conradoaccardi9325 2 жыл бұрын
@@KamyFX Yeah sounds great! Wish the system had some of that here too, but it would also be rather complicated because everyone has to take final exams during summer break too (or, well, like 90% of the students do at least). Thanks for the chat and the info dude!

Bro don't get sad by comparing per hour earning of software with mechanical. AI is booming right now,even at its initial stages. Who knows what it would be after 5 to 7 years. I'm quite sure a lot of CS jobs will be engulfed by AI and the demand of jobs may get reduced. As far as mechanical engineering/design engineering is concerned, it is for sure Al can't replace or effect it before 2030. However it may bring revolution in the manufacturing/automation sector
