Hi friends,
Welcome back! My name is Caitlin and I moved to Banff with my boyfriend back in 2021 on a working holiday. We have lived in Banff since moving from Australia and have travelled as much as we could as well.
In this video I chat to you about the costs associated with moving to Canada and how much money you should plan to have for your move. I discuss different options based on your financial position and the experience you hope to have when you move over here. I also discuss visa costs, flights, insurance and much more! If you have any questions please comment below and I would be happy to help.
Everything discussed is purely my opinion and is all subjective. This video is not financial advice, simply a general overview of costs and ballpark figures to help you plan your own working holiday.
Thanks for being here :)

Hey guys love your content! Fellow Aussie here keen on an IEC. Do you guys have plans to apply for PR after your IEC or coming back to Aus ?

Thank you! Glad you enjoy it! We dont have any plans to apply for PR at this stage. As to whether we will come home after our visa or not is undecided, I personally dont think I'm ready to stop travelling yet and may go somewhere else, watch this space I suppose! :)

Hey, great video! Did you save any money whilst working at the ski resort or were your wages/tips just enough to cover food, rent and activities whilst living there?

Hey, thanks for watching! We were able to save a tiny bit but for the most part we have found it pretty pay check to pay check here! I have not had to touch my savings often, if ever, for general life things though!

Hi! When you are going on roadtrips, do you have to pay for places to park overnights in Banff/Jasper area?
@caitlinlaurent
@caitlinlaurent Жыл бұрын
Hey! When we visited jasper in the past we did stay in one of the established campgrounds and it was approximately $40 a night. I haven’t had experience trying to find any free camping there but I assume there isn’t much considering it is a national park! I would say the same with Banff as all street parking is resident only for the most part :)

Hello, I'm struggling to work out if I need to say I already have a work visa whilst applying for jobs, but I haven't arrived yet (or got my work visa approved) because I don't have a job lined up!

Me and the misses are going next april, i wish i new all the little expenses before i decided to do it lol but we are heading over with about 15k each our insurance was 4.7k for 2 years and did it through a company because its the first time we have done anything like this.
@caitlinlaurent
@caitlinlaurent 9 ай бұрын
So many hidden expenses!! 4.7k is crazy, I'm sorry it was so much! Also 15K sounds like a very comfortable amount and I wouldn't be too concerned if I was you. Good luck with the move!

Sounds amazing! But How much was staff accomodation rent per week? And how many hours are you allowed to work?
@caitlinlaurent
@caitlinlaurent 3 ай бұрын
There was no restriction on how many or few hours per week you could work on the open work permit! When we were in staff accom it was approximately $440 each a month but I know this varies a lot depending on where you work and who for. Hope that helps :)

If you work for the skiing resort, you still have to buy the skiing gear?
@caitlinlaurent
@caitlinlaurent 7 ай бұрын
Yes! If you work for a ski resort your lift pass is usually included so you can ride for free, but you will need to provide all your gear yourself. You will most likely get discounted rental gear but i highly recommend getting your own stuff.

We went with Covermore back in 2021 when we came over. I cannot provide advice on insurance costs as that's your choice but we paid just over $2000 each for a 2-year policy from memory! Safetywing is a company I am looking at using going forward - I have a link here if that helps! tinyurl.com/bdf6maa2

Hey, I will have around $15000 when I arrive in Whistler after all expenses paid such as flights, travel insurance, ski pass etc. I will be starting work right away, do you think this is enough?

Is this Canadian, Australian or American $ ?
@caitlinlaurent
@caitlinlaurent 7 ай бұрын
Canada and Australia are pretty close so I did the calculations generally based on both currencies if that makes sense! We came from Australia so that was forefront but you need $2500CAD as a minimum!
