Im 50 and killing it in the gym. I challenged myself to do 10 pull ups on my birthday. Did 12. And continued lifting after that.

My mom started traditional weight lifting in the gym age 49 and competed in Figure at age 50. She added quite a bit of muscle and strength for several years and I'm sure it has helped her now thar she's in her 60s and still lifting

That's inspiring Was she athletic before 49? A runner? Aerobics? Or did it just come from out of nowhere...

@stvinney just active like hiking and pushups. She did trampoline gymnastics as a teen is all. She wanted to prove 50 wasn't an excuse 💪🏻

My dad is 77 and he can now do chin-ups!! He does not even go to the gym so his training is limited but yes you can build muscle far past retirement age!

61 years old. I put on 8.7lbs lean mass, lost 9.5lbs muscle in past 3 months per Dexa. TRT, protein minimum 150 g per day...sometimes I hit 250g, lifting 2-4 days per week. Adding a little cardio and walking.

I'm 50. Twice in my life I did weights a few months, got injured.. then sold them. Then I learnt last year how to lift smart, let the tendons strengthen first...I've gone from 40kg to 85kg bench and actually healed a decades old shoulder weakness.

Im 51 and getting jacked. I started about a year ago and have steady gains all along. I use to lift up until about 36 and stopped, didn't touch a weight until last year. Im training old school, almost to failure and taking enough time in between high intensity workouts. I feel like a machine, just as good or better than my 30s.

How much time in between?

@@HUNGTXN Depends on how hard I work out. 1 to 3 days off in between workouts usually. I found if I rush back in it actually kills my gains and I get hurt.

I have been going to the gym constantly now for a couple of years. Maintaining muscle but taking off almost 100lb. I'm 56, and it's hard but not impossible to maintain and build muscle.

I reviewed the latest red meat & type 2 diabetes paper. I found 14 issues. Some are common to all population studies. Many were unique to this study. Peer-review should have challenged this paper for issues 6, 7, 9, 10 & 11, if not more. 1) the inaccuracy of Food Frequency Questionnaires. 2) the reported intakes were ‘calibrated’, which increased risk ratios. 3) the definition of red meat included sandwiches and lasagne. 4) the serving sizes have changed since the original FFQs. 5) the intakes used to compare people have become more extreme. 6) the study claimed that women consume more red meat than men; that would be a first. 7) total red meat was claimed to have a higher risk than both processed red meat and unprocessed red meat. Total red meat is the sum of the other two. It can’t be worse than both. 😎 the healthy person confounder. The red meat eater had a higher BMI and was more likely to smoke and less likely to exercise. We can’t adjust for a completely different person. 9) the reported calorie intake was absurd. 10) the characteristics table reported all food intake except the relevant ones - sugar and grains. 11) the headline claims did not adjust for the higher BMI. 12) even if there were no issues 1-11, the study could only suggest association not causation. 13) the relative risk numbers grabbed the headlines; the absolute risk differences were a fraction of one per cent. 14) the plausible mechanisms proposed applied far more sensibly to the bun, fries and fizzy drink (which were ignored) than to the burger

I'm stronger on my non-dominant arm and I am certain it's from years of carrying babies on the left side so I could use my right hand. I wonder how many parents feel the same.

I love your channel! What do you recommend for gym motivation? I’m not a morning person and can’t do it then, and often times I am exhausted after work. I push myself to go in the evenings but feel like my workouts are rushed and suck!

Motivation comes & goes and isn't reliable. Developing discipline & consistency come into play when motivational inevitably wanes. Do what you CAN do consistently. Maybe something you actually enjoy doing.
