@PaintSociety I saw the primer and clear you use with toyota but out of curiously, which brand and line did you use for tge base. I have a 4runner and would like to use the same to keep my toyota consistent with brand as my car is a 2006 and the clear is still 💯. Just needs a heavy buff and polish to bring back tge shine

South Denver (S. Littleton) has a Sherwin Williams Automotive store that I recommend. Last summer I did my son’s front bumper cover and they helped me a ton bc I told them I was a novice home painter. They gave me a lot of good info (and tbh this channel is solid gold too!) I did the stuff this channel recommends (2 primer, no sealer, 2 base, 2 clear) and the job came out great even with silver metallic. No issues.

Thanks for the videos!!! Couple of questions. I'm painting my 66 Mustang in my garage. I'm trying to decide what brand paint to use. Not going for a concours look...just something that will look going at local shows. I have researched Omni, Limco, and Nason. I will be doing 2 stage. I'm leaning towards Nason but would love to hear what you think of these brands. I'll be using an LVLP gun if that makes a difference. The base will be sprayed over an Eastwood 2K urethane primer.

Nice instruction! Some O'reilly's mix Nason and some NAPA does Martin Senour/Crossfire/Finish1, which all are Sherwin Williams branded, if I'm not mistaken. I think that largely has to do with what the body shop/paint distributor ratio in your area is as to whether they mix paint or not.

Great video. But I am getting ready to buy a 35 Ford Truck from Factory Five Racing. The kit has 17 panels all in fiberglass. Cab, 2 doors, 3 hood pieces, radiator cover, 4 fat fenders , 2 running boards, 4 bed panels. Most of the panels will need to be painted both sides. I guess I will start with a primer after I finish the body work. Then use that as a idea as to how much paint I will need. Right now I am thinking I will need 3 gallons of primer, 2 gallons sealer, 3 gallons base and 4 gallons of clear. Will be using PPG Paints, because they have a store 15 minutes from my home. Thank you Ron USCG RET

Sealer (or what we call 'wet on wet' here) is great as you CAN just go to a 600g, rather than 800g min for basecoat. Also, wishy washy covering of sealer is much less of a problem getting coverage than over patchy primer areas. By the way, love the double booth, how much easier is it to paint a car and whole lot of panels / bars in that ? 👍

I assumed that I would need to sand down each panel and give it primer, color, and clear. Is that the best approach? I am about to retire from full time office work (lawyer) and then get a start on my projects - Pantera, Mustang, Camaro and F100. I am a self taught painter and can lay paint finish like a professional - but not as speedy as these guys that do it everyday with their talent (HA - but color matching - I can get a black and white - HA = zero skill at color matching) and always enjoy the little tricks you show in your videos. I am always one for technique (and forgetting the time that the "flick of the wrist" is required) -and it is not in this video - but I have watched professional painters lay paint down with the gun at angles all over the place on a bonnet or roof etc - not for a "flick of the wrist' reason, but poor wrist technique. Keeping your wrist nice and flexible so the fan is as close to the 'perfect' right angle and vertical to the surface ensures a more even coverage. Yes - panels are all different shape and there is often a compromise - but thinking about the best wrist angle and painting like a robot can help. I once saw a painter that used to paint the entire side of the car in one long sweep - he would walk along the entire length back and forth, not doing individual panels. It seemed to work for him, he obviously had his paint viscosity, speed etc down pat. And his wrist/gun technique was always 'perfect'. I am always a fan of just denibbing the final coat and polishing (HA - something I leave to others - I HATE polishing) and leaving a tiny amount of orange peel off the gun. Yes - carshow paint jobs will require flattening out with 3000 grit before polishing - but and everyday job looks so much more 'everyday friendly'. The slight orange peel can also help to break the reflection and disguise 'things' - HA - if that makes sense. Sort of like a 'used' black paint job compared to a 'used' metallic black - the varying reflections from the metallic black fool the eye into hiding the scratches that appear in a paint job from washing etc. Like when painting a black section on a bonnet, I used a MB metallic black, seems to get away with disguising those car wash haze.scratch that will appear one day, whereas straight black - HA - shows everything all the time - yes - I have had several straight black cars and bikes, they always look NEATO when new, but after a few years, they tend to look 'sad'. Thank you - I always enjoy your lessons. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.

@floorpizza8074 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is important to have proper wrist-flicking technique at the end of a stroke when you are about to switch directions. If you don't do a proper wrist flick, you'll effectively spend double the time spraying paint on the spot where you stop and reverse direction. This, of course, will leave you with double the paint thickness at this point, which can then cause runs.

In determining the quantity of paint needed and you said 5-6 oz per panel for 2-3 coats. Are the oz including thinner/reducer???

Yes... but check the ratio required for the base you're using. Could be 1:1 or 2:1. 3 quarts of unreduced should be plenty for a large car with a little bit extra depending on how good it covers. 2-2.5 unreduced quarts for paint that covers well
