Today's topic was useful. Maybe an explanation of how you started your own cycle (What rock, bacteria, sand etc.) and what issues you had along the way.

If you asked me when I started my tank, am I going to add corals, I would have said hmmm, I don't think so. Now, after watching so many vids and doing deep dive into corals, I'm excited to add coral. Corals add so much to the scape. Thanks for another informative session :-)

Excellent work again! Tight and such an informative video! Keep it up Mike! I love how educational is becoming your channel with the lack of commercials and brand promoting as many KZfaqrs are going. I wish you more and more follower base and eventually sponsorship 😉 As for the next topic.. I will be very happy to know more about bio/chemical filtration and dosing. Which one happens when and how harmful it could be if I do it when it's not needed 🤔

Thank bio filtration is not my forte but i can at least discuss all the bottles that dose into my tank. I need to see the long term benefits or effects before I share. So far we are 7 months into it and I have noticed good and bad side effects (mostly good)

Hi Mike, great video. I have recently experienced everything you said here about hammers.. N/P at 0 for too long resulting in loss of colour/Zoox then tissue recession followed by brown jelly. I also lost 3 Euphyllia as a result of ‘over hosting’ by my percula clowns, this occurs when they are spawning they get very rough. I’m going all soft coral I’ve decided which I’m quite excited about as not many are doing this anymore!

I have two questions. How long did you wait to ad sps colonies to your system after start? Have you ever had an sps frag/colony that went dormant after a mistake and it never started to grow again? If so, any advice to help it to recovery?
@Mikeymikemike
@Mikeymikemike 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I added Sps about 6 weeks after adding zoas and LPS. But I have a feeling they would have been fine early on. As for domant corals, Yes I have a few that just send out a base but never grow tips. Perhaps its light or flow that is the issue. YOu can stimulate growth by cutting it.

Very useful info but what about gonis? Also in regards to the zoas. The unamed zoas tend to be really hardy, but named zoas all have varying levels of difficulty.

For me Tridacna Maximas are my Achilles heal. Just can't keep them long term even though I have Derasas, Croceas, Gigas, and hippopus, and Squamosas that are doing well in the same system. What are your experiences? Seems the Pinched Mantels are the key down sides.

I have to start from scratch since I'm moving lost 90 % of my corals. I see your lights are pretty high up there. Is it attached to a shelf? And if so what is the height of your lights to the bottom of your tank? Maybe my 20gallon nano was pushing to much par since I was using two16 hd primes. I'm thinking of doing a 90 gallon with an old maxspect lighting system for reefs that I had years ago. I'm not sure if it would be suitable enough. That's my issue with the proper lighting parameters. And what do you think of using a fluval fx big tub canister filter for the 90 gallon? And advise would help me start my next project. Thank you Mikey👍
@Mikeymikemike
@Mikeymikemike 2 жыл бұрын
I have my lights mounted about 120cm above the substrate but they are turned up pretty high now. As for the fluval fx it’s a great filter but the larger size and bigger tubes make it hard to service and add prefilter. You could however DIY a prefilter using large domestic water filter canisters that are easy to service since they just twist open. Otherwise a fish only system using fx is ok, just watch those nitrates. Sorry about your coral loss. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Hey Mike, with the BTA anemone, how'd you go about getting that one in your tank. I recently purchased one which I'm keeping in a glass cup on some broken off rock, however it'd be nice to be able to get it to mix into the rest of the scape without killing off everything in it's path. Any tips for how to go about this ? Cheers
@Mikeymikemike
@Mikeymikemike 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mirkz, your best bet is to use rocks that have a lot of holes in them like a piece of “real reef rock”TM I find those to be the best at keeping nems in their place, but they will all eventually walk… mine have this morning and I just spent an hour trying to remove them from a rock…

I communicated with another aquarist who's experience showed that most sps will contain/ overpower most zoas, is this not the case?
@Mikeymikemike
@Mikeymikemike 2 жыл бұрын
I hope that is always the case but guess it depends, some acros are very strong and others not so much, even between across, one will kill another. As with paly/zoas, sometimes the conditions favour their health over acros. Maybe best to just keep them away from each other.

So I can keep, Acans, sps, euphyllia, just about everything, but I disagree with you on Zoa, I cannot keep them alive. they just close and die in my aquarium. I have placed them in low light, medium light, high phosphates low phosphates, nothing seems to work? While I can keep everything else alive, Zoa, no, no, no.

I really enjoyed your videos to this point. Why would you title your video as all my corals died. And then to watch hoping nothing bad happened then you say oh no they didn't but how they could was a wrong kind of title and left me less interested in watching anymore video's from you. Might think about wording your title's different.
