I’m religious and I don’t feel even close to what she felt! It’s sad that because of her specific experience she includes the whole community… there’s so many women who are successful, clothes brands, photographers, makeup artists and the list doesn’t end! Wish her the best and that she’ll find her peace🙏🏻

My mom's side of the family is Jewish and she was not raised Orthodox, though one of her Bubbie's was. I wish she was still around so I could ask her questions about things.

Hi, I'm a Jewish chasidic orthodox women and very disturbed at what Julia says. First we can dance plenty. By weddings we dance, parties dance, at home dance... u can dance wherever you want. Yes before a man we dont but other than that go ahead and dance. Second, about men saying every day "thank you God for not making me woman" was completely twisted. Lemme explain why they say it. There is a concept that maybe God shouldn't have created people. Why because we ruin his world are,not nice to others ect... So in the morning most jews say while praying thank you God for not making me a slave, for making me jewish and men also say thank you for not making me woman. Now this might seem degrading to women but its not. We believe that women are born a little holier than men. So therefore men have more mitzvot-comandments. Every one can grow and be a better person and get rewarded in the next world. So, men say if you God shouldn't have created humans cuz we ruin your world, at least when you did create me you made me man and bot woman so I can work on myself and listen to your commands and be on a woman's level and even exceed it. So in the end its an empowerment for woman.

Julia Haart is a woman who was born in Russia in 1970 to Mikhail and Lina Leibov. Her name at birth was Natalia Leibov. Soon after, she immigrated with her parents to the United States. Her parents would go on to have eventually 7 more children. About 1980, her parents embraced Orthodox Judaism and sent her to an Orthodox Jewish school. Her father became a wealthy businessman and she grew up in a million dollar McMansion at 11 Golar Drive, Monsey, New York. In 1989, Julia married Yosef Hendler, age 24, an Orthodox young man whom she had known only briefly. They had four children: Batsheva 1993, Shlomo 1996, Miriam 2000, and Aron 2006. Batsheva is divorced without children and the other children are single. All except Aron have left Orthodoxy. In 2013, Julia left her husband and left Judaism. She apparently left the marriage with some significant financial assets, which she says came from her income as a teacher and insurance salesperson. I would assume that she also received a share of the marital assets and child support as part of a divorce settlement. With that money, she produced demonstration pairs of shoes which she had designed and tried to sell the design to shoe manufacturers. In 2015, she and her shoes were noticed by a billionaire Italian businessman, Silvio Scaglia. Scaglia was at the time 57 years old and married with three children. Haart was 45. Scaglia was so impressed with Haart that in 2016 he made her creative director of La Perla, a luxury lingerie company which he had purchased in 2013 for 69 million euros, allowing her to effectively run the company. In 2017 Scaglia publicly announced that he intended to divorce his wife, Monica Aschei. The divorce was finalized in 2018. In 2011 Scaglia acquired Elite World Group, the world’s largest model management network. In April 2019, Scaglia made Haart the CEO, creative director and co-owner of Elite World Group. In June 2019 Scaglia and Haart married. In February 2020, Netflix filmed a 9 episode miniseries starring Haart. It went online in July 2021 titled “My Unorthodox Life”. In September 2021 Netflix announced that “My Unorthodox Life” was renewed for a second season. In July 2021, Haart announced the upcoming publication of her memoir “Brazen: My Unorthodox Journey from Long Sleeves to Lingerie” scheduled for release in April 2022 by Penguin Random House. In August 2021, Haart’s net worth was estimated at approximately US$600 million. On December 14, 2021 the UK Daily Mail wrote that Haart and Scaglia had separated. The couple have not commented on this. It would appear that Haart was an attractive, middle class, middle aged divorcee who has slept her way to the top and is now a vehement anti-Orthodox Judaism version of Kim Kardashian.

It’s so frustrating watching Julia speak. She’s misrepresenting Orthodox Judaism and as she’s in a position to do so, there’s no one to call her out on it. So many orthodox girls go to college, build businesses, become “tech geniuses”. Judaism doesn’t hold you back on that. And as for the comments on singing and dancing, she’s taken something and twisted it to fit her agenda. If she chose not to be orthodox, good for her, go on your way. But you don’t have to bash the life that thousands of others are living , content and happy.

She is speaking about the impact of fundamentalism though. She is very positive about sharing her take on Jewish traditions. I was quite amazed by how understanding she is despite how restricted she was for many years in her community. One point is that it's not all communities but it was in hers. You can't minimise her experience because it was not yours.

@@mhorbheinn I went to high school with her, she is misrepresenting the life SHE led, she is lying and making up a story to shock people into watching. There may be much more restrictive sects of Judaism that do live somewhat in the ways that she mentions, BUT Julia never lived like that and she cannot act out a false narrative! It is very misleading.

VERY MISLEADING: the reason men say thank g-d I’m not a women is bc women are holier so they don’t have to do as many things to serve g-d because they already so close . So men say to g-d thank you that I can serve you more even tho it’s because men are less holy.

while I enjoyed her show it dealt with her experiences and wasn't necessarily true of all orthodox jews. it depends who the rabbi is of that community's temple. there is a whole spectrum of orthodoxy. some are more stringent than others. her experiences definitely don't speak to all jews, most of which are more secular and progressive and don't adhere to ancient customs.

Kelly I hope you read this. Jewish men say thank you god for not making me a woman. Meaning thank you god for allowing me to serve you in a more public way. The Jewish women have a more modest role and their reward is invaluable. And Julia says things without explaining first. If I can explain this as a parable. A king gives 1 person a job to take lead in the army he has to wear a uniform and be the face his job is important and he will get publicly acknowledged. A king gives someone else a job to be in secret service they aren’t rewarded publicly but their job is way more important and the survival of the kingdom is in their hands and that’s the job of the women we respect our women in the best way possible and Julia likes to take things out of context.

So why do women nos specifically say “Thank you God for not making me a man” they instead say “Thank you God for making me according to your will” that doesn’t quite balance out. Men should also say” thank you God for making me according to your will”. There’s clearly something wrong there fundamentally.

This episode is so disturbing. Julia fails to mention that women also say a blessing every day thanking G-d for being so blessed to be a woman. Women in Judaism are so elevated and that's the purpose for our rules of modesty. We save our bodies for our husbands and don't cheapen ourselves by flaunting our bodies to the world. Julia unfortunately has so much misinformation, and having grown up literally in her community, I am so sad that she is portraying our beautiful life and religion this way. It's a terrible thing
