Sam Vaknin has been a godsend to people who got involved with a narcissist to help them understand what the hell happened and to get away.

I agree. He was helping us long long before the current trendy craze on self proclaimed 'experts' talking about narcissists on KZfaq. 12 years ago I found his book Malignant Self-Love and it saved my life. Prof Vaknin is a genuine academic peer reviewed expert.

I felt such a fool as initially I told everyone how wonderful he was and 4 years later I had to tell those same people I was divorcing him. I felt I had lost all my credibility with these people. At the time I didn't know about NPD, I just knew he was abusive and I needed to get out. After loads of searching I finally came upon Prof. Vaknin's book Malignant Self-Love and it explained everything I had been through. His book saved my life.

If its love, the one loved blooms. You don’t need a definition. If a relation does not make you stronger or even weaker, GO. Narcissist are very good at storytelling, but look at the results. If someone pretends to be an apple tree but you over time don’t see apples: GO. Trust your own feelings and ordeal. Love yourself and just relate to the ones who love you back. And that’s for sure not the narcissist.

It's sad how many people fall for the apple tree and give it money to keep growing only to find out too late they were just being used and abused and were now financially dependant on the apple tree with no fruit because the money is no longer there to get it back. It's a narcissist trick. Never give them any money. You will never get it back without a fight.

My ex once told me he wanted a woman who was a cross between his mother and a sex goddess. I thought he was joking, I really did. I was wrong, he was dead serious. 🤮 “when someone tells you who they are, believe them”

When someone says “I love like nobody else can” that’s the giveaway they are a narcissist. They make themselves the subject. Real love delights in the loveliness of who they are loving.

This is so true. Before i educated myself about narcissism I I always felt i was a “rental wife”, on loan to give services. Its sickening. Even today knowing the truth its still hard to swallow and totally understand. I guess because I am not a broken narcissist.

My narcissist has many people he idealizes. Whenever I would say anything negative toward them he would take it personally. I never understood why. Now I understand he/them are the same. This is why he takes it personal. It is so difficult to understand when it happens. He idealizes people he employees. Not even anyone really that important. So I never understood why that would happen.

I wonder if narcissists ever look at these videos and whether they even have the capacity to realize their actions and motives correlate with most if not all of what Prof Vaknin describes. This describes my ex and a former close friend perfectly! Prof Vaknin provides the best insight and education on NPD on KZfaq. He’s always spot on! This man doesn’t miss

Unfortunately most narcissists are unaware of what they are, even if you show them proof. They will never believe anything they do is their fault.

Sam's teachings helped me run, not walk away from an ever escalating and abusive sibling. Sam's phrase of "Nothing like sunlight to disinfect abuse," became my mantra. I have been 5+ years of "no contact," and the peace from that has been joyous. I can never thank Sam enough.

Oh my goodness ,this is like I'm listening to my life in this relationship. I've been married nearly 44 years . I have been through all of what the professor has said and more. I'd never heard of narcissists, sociopaths, gas lighting. I was in an unknown world. I educated my self on how and why my husband has these weird patterns of behaviour, It's a living he'll. Sadly too late for me to escape. Hopefully with great people like professor Sam other will be wise a lot quicker than I have been.

@@bsimpson505 Yes, I fantasize about "Its never too late", but I am now 78 years old and little to no income in a high end area with animals. So after 20 years trying to understand his confusing ways I am learning to grieve the loss of what I thought our relationship was and learning how to manage to live with man that can turn on me without a reason or concern for me. I am smarter and stronger.
