Engineers and designers working on the Parker Solar Probe tackled challenges such as size, weight, and extreme heat. Their design combined unique materials and underwent rigorous testing to transform the Probe into a record-breaking spacecraft.
This Is Not a Real Explosion, Here’s How Physics Made It Happen - • This Is Not a Real Exp...

Why Won't Parker Solar Probe Melt?
www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/...
"In space, the temperature can be thousands of degrees without providing significant heat to a given object or feeling hot. Why? Temperature measures how fast particles are moving, whereas heat measures the total amount of energy that they transfer. Particles may be moving fast (high temperature), but if there are very few of them, they won’t transfer much energy (low heat). Since space is mostly empty, there are very few particles that can transfer energy to the spacecraft."
Who is Eugene Parker?
www.nasa.gov/content/goddard/...
"More than half a century later, the Parker Solar Probe mission will finally be able to provide key observations on Parker’s groundbreaking theories and ideas, which have informed a generation of scientists about solar physics and the magnetic fields around stars. Much of his pioneering work, which has been proven by subsequent spacecraft, defined a great deal of what we know about the how the sun-Earth system interacts."
NASA Is Going to The Sun, Here’s Why That’s So Crazy
www.seeker.com/videos/space/n...
"From Earth, we can only ever see the corona during a total solar eclipse, which is why it is incredibly difficult to study. Because the density is so low, the corona’s brightness is overpowered by energy coming from the solar surface. As the last layer of the sun’s atmosphere, the corona extends millions of miles into space. Here, temperatures can rise to over one million degrees Celsius which is about 300 times hotter than the photosphere, the lowest layer of the sun’s atmosphere."

@injustice fellow Yes : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_SG-1#Collaboration_with_the_military And it was SUPER-SUCESSFULL (it improved greatly their reputation through the 10 years the show was on air); even today most of the relative increase on the percentage of inscriptions of young men & women cite this show as one of the reasons they choose US Air Force [instead of going to the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, or the Coast Guard ]. -> The new "Space Force" as an independent branch of the military was even sugested late on the show itself (eventually named "Homeworld Command" in the sequel series since it ended including also all other countries of Earth).

@injustice fellow Propaganda... maybe. But NOT brainwashing, since the scripts were not MADE by the USAF (they just had an "advisory" about practices and ethics based on their code of conduct helping the other writters; as only one of them came from that branch of the military). -> While there were MANY creative licenses, almost all episodes were well received by Sergeants & Generals (when they were asked how they would have approached the situations presented on those stories).

Wow seeker, advertising is necessary, but maybe next time you'll consider the morality of it. I know you talk a great deal about space, but this is something that until recently we've been trying to claw back from the militaries of the world. I mean seriously, the US Airforce official motto, "We violate other people's airspace and international human rights agreements with gusto and firebombs (i.e. white phosphorous bombs, maybe you can do an episode on the science behind those bombs sponsored by the US Military too), all while promising yet failing to actually provide the economically disadvantaged with university opportunities and potential for career advancement. Go Murder, Go Lies, Go US Airforce." And cue bunch of blind patriots who are probably christians or myopic history geeks arguing that an organisation built for murder is somehow honorable or rational or worth celebrating...Support your veterans, they're usually victims too.

Hold on, with space essentially being an insulator and a very poor eliminator of waste heat it makes perfect sense that the corona is significantly hotter than the surface itself. It just stores heat and gasses that get brought to super high temperatures with very little chance to leak away.

Seemed like conflicting graphics and actions - one video section shows/said to go around sun and we see that , but then a couple of times looks like the probe was heading straight into the sun. Around? Or into?

I just had a thought. Congratulation to meet pat on the back. What exactly is Thermo radiating "heat" Is it particles radiating from my engine or I actually take it at the metal heating up and heat is coming off. If that's the case like I think and the internal engine is heating the air around making it "air" get hotter. So does that make heat its own Force?

I'd be curious to hear why this probe has such a radically different heat shield from the one designed for the James Webb Telescope [composed of several thin sheets] which will keep the telescope at -220 C.

Why does it need to be that fast/what were the reasons for the weight limitations? What are the current results of this experiment? Are solar flares a cyclical/seasonal event of the sun with accessory, predictive indicators like temperature gradients like a hurricane or is it more of a sudden event similar to an earthquake?
