Omg I have so many blackbirds in my neighborhood, there’s 1 in particular who comes to my bedroom window and the deck everyday & taps on the window to let me know to put some more feed in the bird feeder. I call him Ralph.

This is a despicable bird to say the least. They are aggressive, noisy and bad-tempered. They start their horrid screaming at sun up and never shut up until sunset. I've seen them gang up on smaller birds, 3 to 1. I've even seen them gang up on crows. I don't understand how they can continue their 'screaming' non-stop all day. Surely, their vocal chords must get tired. Also, I've never seen a bird more protective of their nests. One of them setup a nest in my tree in the back yard, and all summer long it harassed me every time I got within 20 feet of the nest. Not just that, but they harass as a group. They'll call their friends to come and join in on the harassment. Horrid, hateful birds are they. They swoop down until they are within a few feet of your head. There is one thing they really hate though, and that is being sprayed with a strong jet of water from a hose.

@@lduranceau8046 Sounds like they're just doing what any living creature would do if they thought something was a threat to their young....including humans. If even the most basic aspects of life are so horrid to you, perhaps you should just never leave you home again.

We live out on the countryside in Nebraska with a creek running through our backyard and a few ponds nearby. The birds are _everywhere_ in my area. They even flock to our bird feeders. It's so neat to see them and hear them when I'm sitting at the table with all the windows open on a spring day.

Nice video! Thank you! Are they ever so cute!! QUESTION too: I was just wondering.. I'm in a city (Montréal,Canada). Do you know if my redwing blackbirds I feed right now in april 2018 will stick around my feeders when the females arrive and the couples start forming, breeding and nesting, if there's no wetland, marshs or swamps around??? They can't nest on ground level: too many cats I guess. Are they known to nest in small trees for instance?? Or bushes off the ground and the like? Merci beaucoup!

I don’t know why they’re referring to this bird as if it is only part of the environment in the north eastern part of the United States. I’m in the Pacific Northwest and we have Red-winged blackbirds everywhere. They definitely love wetlands and they definitely love singing their hearts out. In fact here I am in mid January of ‘23, and I already heard male redwings staking out territory! I’m not sure exactly when the females show up and start nesting, but yeah, I am in the southern Willamette Valley of Oregon and I heard Red-winged blackbirds calling today.

There one of the first here in the Pacific Northwest as well. Yes, very territorial until midsummer. So bold as to chase crows near his end of the pond. Last spring there were what appeared to be five males jockeying for position on the island in the middle of the pond. They squabbled for weeks until what I believe to be the long residing male chased the others off. So far this spring I've seen the resident male and just one, possibly two other males laying siege to the island in a bid to seize his island paradise. The resident male held them off. The victor continues to assert his presence with song and dance. I know it's the same male because of his distinct flight pattern and his buzzing of the ducks. Occasionally he'll hiding in a spruce tree off the island watching and waiting to chase any intruders who dare to fly near his island domain. It's as if he sets this trap for sport. When he is not busy playing the trap and chase game his time is spent on the highest branch, of the tallest tree, an old apple tree, on the island calling out to female suitors far and wide.

I wonder if northern red wings have a slightly different call than the southern ones. The ones in FL add an extra note on the end of the "conk-a-ree!" that is heard here. It sounds more like "Oh Don CHEEEAAdle!" down where I live.
