From Netflix and KZfaq to AMC, CNBC Marathon explores the future of entertainment.
Over the past 25 years, Netflix revolutionized the film and television industry. The company amassed over 220 million subscribers across 190 countries, billions of hours watched for show Stranger Things and racked in 226 award wins. However, in 2022, things began looking rather different for the storied streamer while fighting an uphill battle to remain relevant in the streaming wars. In Q2 of 2022, Netflix lost nearly 1 million subscribers as rival Disney+ added roughly 14 million new subscribers.
Movie theaters across the U.S. and worldwide were dealt a massive blow during the pandemic. The domestic box office numbers plummeted from 2019’s box office of $11.2 billion to $3.8 billion in 2021. As for AMC Entertainment, the pandemic was chaotic. The theater company was virtually out of cash and nearly bankrupt, yet the 2021 “APE meme-stock” movement possibly saved the company.
And with more than 500 hours of video uploaded every minute and over 1 billion hours watched every day, Google’s KZfaq is the world’s second largest search engine. And its meteoric growth hasn’t subsided, over 2 billion users visit the site every month. CNBC takes a look at how the video platform has changed over the past 15 years and if it can stay on top.

They may or may not pirate it afterwards, but for the company it won't matter, because they will have lost these subscribers already, and it the service is a bargain again, they won't regain them.

I remember going to Blockbuster on Friday night and there was nothing good left on the shelves. Then I started getting Netflix DVDs and could finally get the stuff I wanted. Then I switched to Netflix streaming. But Netflix slowly started losing their quality. Their originals used to be occasionally good and now they're hardly ever good. So I cancelled and now I just watch Hulu or Max or whatever, one a time, in rotation. I might stick with one for 1-3 months. By the time I'm done, a year has passed and the rotation begins again. Easy & cheap.

The main appeal of streaming is no commercials, I pay extra for that because my time is more important. I simply want to watch content uninterrupted. Theaters are really no longer relevant for me, I have my own home theater system and don't need to travel to pay overpriced fees for snacks. Streaming has really conditioned me to wait for content because there is plenty of content to stream as we rotate through the various streaming services on a monthly basis. Streaming services are only getting better and it's easy to subscribe to a service 1-2 times a year (so we did Netflix in January and will subscribe again in July).

I still enjoy the event of going to the theatres. That won't ever change. What will is going to a dirty theatre with bad customer service. Netflix and YT killed cable network TV though. Most of the content on YT and Netflix is just better. I only need live TV for sports...that's it.

There no movie theaters, just places that sell over priced popcorn that happen to play movies. These movie theaters make something like 80% of there money on over priced snacks. Change this model so that the theaters and movie publishers get the benefits, not popcorn makers.

When I lived in Dallas area in the 90's, there was a discount theater 🎭 only play movies that are 3 months old. On Tuesday, the tickets were $0.50, family brought kids and had a good time because they made money on 🍿 and snacks. That was days I catch up on movies, only very few movies I have to see it on opening weekend like mission Impossible, and any Brad Pitt's movie 😅

One reason of the decline of subscribers in netflix is the cancellation of great series/ shows like Orange is the new Black, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Santa Clarita Diet, The OA and the one that hit them all is the Sense8! It was phenomenal and a HUGE heartbreak for all of the fans around the world!

KZfaq is like Google but the ads are too much . I was once catch up paying for youtube premium just to avoid it but that was too much money to spend. The cable price is far too expensive compared to philo that offers great channels but nothing still replace them yet. Netflix on the other hand is getting there been a subscriber for 7 years now and overtime the content has improved, there is not a week i don't watch something likeable on it. I tried other platforms like hbo max which is good, paramount seems to be getting ahead by offering live tv, movies etc..But in the end only the best wins and choices are always important.

KZfaq is the ONLY streaming platform which has a viable Comments section. Google has harnessed all youtube Comments into A.I. already and that data base is worth billions if not trillions.
@pmb6667
@pmb6667 Жыл бұрын
The Comments sections are literally INFESTED with garbage bots, account impostors/scammers and spammers. I also cannot stand the KZfaq 'Shorts'. That's for Tik Tok people with the attention span of a flea. KZfaq shoud stay in their own lane about that, and _improve_ their fancy algorithms to get rid of the spammy crap (since they don't seem to care about the direct reports they get about them, as the impostor links/accounts remain even months later). If they can close an account instantly re copyrights, or even for any reason at all, they can eliminate the scammy accounts.

Streaming and theaters just serve different needs. Theaters are for that big, overwhelming, immersive experience and for special experiences (be part of the Barbenheimer frenzy etc). That's why movies need to be expensive and have a lot of engrossing eye candy, whether they're about a toy come to life or about the creator of the atom bomb. Streaming is the day to day convenient entertainment when you're lolling on the couch and bored. They can both survive but don't expect them to overlap much.

I always hated going to the movies. Sitting in a chair with my feet sticking to the floor, in a room that was too hot/too cold surrounded by coughing people and crying kids, unable to take a break to go to the bathroom or get food or drink was a horrible experience. I almost always got a headache and when a movie cost $10/person l stopped going. Now l can sit in the comfort of my own home, eat a hot meal, drink a beer and pause, rewind and fast forward while watching my favorite movies. What’s not to love? I’m surprised anyone goes to the movies anymore. Besides, most new movies are remakes, sequels and prequels from movies made 20-30 years ago. There’s nothing to go to the movies FOR!
