In this video I look through five of my old builds in The Sims 3 and point out mistakes I made. I use these houses as examples of how not to build a house in The Sims 3.

Lmao when I first started playing (Sims 1) my houses were like that. I had no sense of scale. I'll also never forget my first house, the front door was in the bathroom. So everyone had to keep walking through it and disturbing any Sims trying to use it. Whhhyyy?? 😂 I also then decided I needed another toilet and instead of building a room for it I just stuck it on the outside wall 😂

I recently downloaded a house (can't remember where I got it). The house was gorgeous as far as decor, had enough rooms, etc. But the rooms were the biggest rooms I've ever seen. It definitely didn't look that big when I saw the previews. lol I couldn't use it. Too much unused space and even if I tried to divide them to make more rooms, the house would have been way too big. I also don't like houses where the rooms are too small or crowded, either. With several small houses I downloaded, my Sim had to go outside to have enough space to pet the dog or let the kid use their walker.

In the sims 3 always always use decorations and create a Style many of the wallpapers in sims 3 are outdated always start out with the plain white and change colors, always use decorations it adds a bit more clutter and make it look less plain and never make big rooms as demonstrated in the video also use the electrical box and fan in lawn ornaments to make realistic homes

Thank you for sharing your tips. I think you should redo one or two of the houses and put it in the new world you are working on, give the homes a new makeover, it would be great to see.

This reminds me of teen years ago when I used to make huge builds like the first build, and nowadays my builds seem even a little too small at times, but at the same time much more realistic looking.

I disagree on the flowers being unrealistic, I know plenty of houses that plant in a pattern... maybe not completely all the way around but the front window area is totally realistic as well as the white border...now that being said I agree it doesn't always look nice but it's definitely in the realistic realm 😁😁😁

I remember the bad old days of Sims 1. Sims had an actual Room need, and you could only fill it up by making the rooms unnecessarily big and putting the most expensive decorations in - no matter how badly those decorations blend together (mixing medieval-castle decorations with stuff straight out of The Jetsons?) or how much space is going unused. Plus, the simpler pathing/spacing rules and dumber Sims meant having to leave more room for Sims to move - you haven't lived until you've seen a fire go out of control because the fireman couldn't get past a panicking Sim in the kitchen, or two Sims get stuck until death-by-hunger because they keep autonomously trying to enter the same door from opposite sides.

I'm a fairly new subscriber so I didn't see the the last build when you did it. However, because I'm somewhat new to your channel and marathon watched you build Plymouth Isle, the difference is tremendous. You've clearly come a long way and it shows that you can go back and tactfully critique your previous work when you were just starting out. I hope you can appreciate how far you have come and your own skill. Would be interesting to see you go back and "fix" them like you were sort of doing, and then doing a thorough before and after. Thanks for uploading and keep building! 😁

Things can get too big, that being said, size is only a problem when it makes the houses look corporate. Big ≠ Bad. Design choices need to be just that: considered choices, with purpose and attention to detail. Your over-landscaping is a very cute flaw, btw🐤 -- I always left everything blank back in the day

Just a suggestion most homes don’t have a bathroom right off of the kitchen. It kind of gross if you think about it. Who wants to use a bathroom when someone is out in the next room eating. I know it’s the sims but realistically bathrooms usually aren’t right off of the kitchen. But thank you for the tips your builds are great and I watch all of your videos

I guess it depends on the part of the world you live in, in my country bathrooms next to the kitchen are completely normal.
@skyechimes658
@skyechimes658 4 жыл бұрын
Uhhhh nope. Often bathrooms ARE near kitchens, specifically because of plumbing. Having the plumbing run across a house is expensive, and often leads to access issues down the road. Nowadays many people prefer that the DOOR to the bathroom not be in a dining room or kitchen, but the rooms themselves are often sharing a wall due to the plumbing, and not infrequently this leads to floor plan issues where the door ends up in a less then prefered location. Also, laundrys that are also halfbaths are common, and laundry off the kitchen? Totally normal. Is the kitchen a back entrance/mud entrance? Handy to have a utility sink/bathroom sink nearby rather than using the food prep sink in the kitchen to wash up from outdoors. There are a lot of reasons why bathrooms would be located off or near kitchens and it's way more common then you would think.

skyechimes658 I have two bathrooms in my house and neither one are right beside the kitchen not even close . Sometimes they may share a wall in some houses I guess because of plumbing but usually a bathroom door is not located beside the kitchen. I’m not saying they are never there but generally no they are not.

I don’t think I have ever been in a house with a bathroom to far from the kitchen. One or two rooms across at max.
@Becksnnc

Where I used to live you had to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. It was downstairs. You'd walk through the kitchen and then there'd be a little "room" or space where the washer went and the bathroom was right next to it.

About the chimney in the second house it is realistic actually to have a fireplace with no chimney IF its non functional and decorative (Source my sisters house has one large first floor great room and the living room has a fireplace that doesn't have a chimney)
