Can't speak of Knives Out as that has been a while, but Because Glass Onion wasn't a mystery: it's a parade of conveniences. Masked by somewhat adept meta-stuff and a host of (visual) storytelling trickery to obfuscate its own lack of depth. Think of deliberate slow pacing to feign thoughtfulness, lingering shots of nothingness, snappy dialogue to seem witty, superficial parallels to contemporary events and social issues parading as social commentary, non-linear storytelling to seem way more compelling than it is, etc. Take away single building blocks to its story and it simply ceases to work. It fools viewers because it is well-acted, has a somewhat distinct visual style - though often horribly pastiche in its copying of the likes of Wes Anderson and Tarantino -, and on the whole it is directed capably enough. Yet that does not a mystery make, except something pretending to be. And that's what it really feels like to me, something horribly pretentious. Something that makes a lot of people who aren't aware how they're being led-on go "ooh!" and "aah!", while at its centre, in the words of Benoit Blanc: "it's just dumb". It entertained me well enough, in that regard it's an okay film. But let's not laud it for being something greater than that.

@@user-sf3pg6fi1j The likes of Memories of Murder, The Handmaiden, Zodiac, Se7en, Usual Suspects, Mulholland Drive, Marshland, Memento, Vertigo, Chaser, The Guilty, Prisoners, I Saw the Devil, Oldboy, Cure, The Secret in their Eyes and Decision to Leave are miles ahead from the films that I mentioned in the previous comment.
