Wow! this video hit me like a ton of bricks! I grew up watching my grandfather and father smoke pipes. I'm 62 and just resumed pipe smoking after a 35+ year hiatus since my children were allergic to the smoke, so I put them away. At the age of 20 I decided to try smoking a pipe and remember my dad showing me how. I was not mature enough at the time to appreciate the hobby and didn't think much of it at the time. Now many years later I have taken up the hobby with a passion and love of the hobby! Dad passed away about 30 years ago, but before his death he purchased a "nice" pipe. It was as Preben Holm. He purchased 2 of them and gifted me one. In my immaturity I said thanks and didn't think much of it. But now, my heart aches every time I smoke it wishing that I could roll back the clock and just have 1 opportunity to sit with those two men and enjoy a bowl together. I will forever treasure that pipe as a tradition in my family that will always tie us together. Every now and then I fire up a bowl of Granger, just because that's what my grandfather smoked or a bowl of Iwan Ries Three Star Blue in honor of my Dad. I'll sit there smoking my Preben Holm with a tear running down my face thinking "Thanks Dad... I Love you and miss you more than you'll ever know."

I first got into pipe smoking about a year ago now. I was going through some crazy times. Relationships were unsteady, money was tight, kids were screaming, and I had recently committed my life to Jesus. Things were hectic to say the least. I was watching KZfaq and saw a short of this man smoking a pipe. The wisps of smoke, the explanation of flavors, the serenity all drew me in quickly. I went to a local tobacconist and just asked, what pipe should I get as a first? He handed me a pipe and packed it with a bowl of tobacco and told me to start with that. I took it home, struck a match, and could not get this thing to light. I bought a BIC, still couldn't get it. All I could think was even this calming looking hobby is hectic to me. I tried one last time and finally the tobacco was lit. I drew in that first time and it was.......kind of nasty. But I did find that the breath control was actually really calming so I kept going. I immediately ordered some different blends, found one that I could actually taste (Autumn Evening), and I was off to the races. A year later I now own 2 corn cobs, 1 Peterson Army, and this original pipe that I still don't know who manufactured it. I recently had a baby and the hectic pattern of life is hitting just like it did back then, but this pipe remains the thing I can turn to that reminds me, I made it out of the before, and with the Lord's help, I will make it out of this again.

In 2010 I spent the summer in Juneau Alaska with Campus Crusade. I had left my Savinelli at home and was without a pipe. Many of the men I was on the trip with started to get into pipes, so I went down to the cigar shop and bought a cheap no-name briar pipe. This pipe will forever mark that summer of discipleship, worship of the lord, evangelism, and fellowship. But now 13 years later when I see this pipe I think of those men I shared the summer with and I think of those who have left their faith behind. It will always be a reminder of how important discipleship of my fellow brothers is and how we need to continue to invest in lives of those around us and make sure they understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

My favorite pipe is a Hardcastle my father owned. I remember him sitting in his recliner smoking it when i was a child like 5 or so around 1968 maybe 1970. Brings back so many wonderful memories of my childhood and my family life back then. It is one of the best smokers I have and use it regulatory. It may be a little dinged up and not as polished a finish as it once had but every mark is a memory of my life. I would never get it refinished it would ruin it for me. It's like an old friend and links me to my father now 83, every time i smoke it i see him as a young man so in love with his young family.

This is a precious video brother. Thank you for sharing your pipe stories and showing some vulnerability in the trials of serving the Lord. My favorite story from one of my pipes is about a pipe I only just smoked for the first time just a few months ago but I had aquired it about 27ish years ago. Long story short, several Brothers in Christ that I was blessed to grow up with, we each bought each other (as groomsmen) pipes as gifts. One of my Brothers gave me a Luigi Viprati on his wedding day by recommendation of our local pipe shop owner who suggested this as a pipe worth keeping. I saved it to smoke on a momentus occasion and that time has come as of recent. I have dedicated this pipe to virginias and enjoy the few quiet moments I have on the mission field in Central America. I never would have thought our Father would be preparing me and my family for missions work in Central America but here we are and God is so good! Not only do I have a pipe to remember my bredren back home but every time I hold this pipe in my hand I am remided of Gods providence over my life. Tears of joy. Peace and Love in Christ alone.

My best friends grandfather gave me this pipe. There were a lot of good times and now memories associated with it, we were in 10th grade I believe when my friend and I first started hanging out together and somehow or another got to talking about smoking a pipe. We were both very interested and couldn’t wait to try it sometime. We’d spend hours hanging out in his basement looking up all sorts of different pipes and tobaccos and whatever KZfaq videos were around then, who else remembers watching PipefriendCHS videos? My friend had mentioned how his grandpa would smoke a pipe sometimes and maybe he’d ask him to let us try it someday when he comes over for a visit. Soon enough that day came and with a little persuasion that neither of us would tell our parents, he was ok with it and we were so excited! He’d show us how to pack it, light and tamp etc… How to try and avoid tongue bite, keep a glass of water or milk on hand… After a few times hanging out together and smoking pipes (Captain Black, white) I had asked if he might have one that I could have and the next time I saw him he did. He was an awesome guy and I can’t smoke a pipe without reminiscing a little bit about those days. He’d tell us smoking a pipe is just fine, just don’t inhale and don’t smoke cigarettes. As we moved onto drinking and partying a bit through high school, my friend and I usually carried our pipes with us and we’d be the oddball kids smoking tobacco pipes and everyone else would always want to try. I definitely remember there being some drunken nights searching the backpack for my pipe and the captain black seemingly always running low. I miss those days, pipe smoking has come and gone a few times since then but has found its way back again and I think it’s here to stay now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and the opportunity to win a pipe I would certainly cherish either one!

I just got into pipe smoking in October 2023. I was thinking about my great grandfather who we lived with back in the 50's. I used to sit in his room and he told me stories and let me play with his rock collection. While we spent time together he would smoke his pipe and the only tobacco he smoked was Prince Albert. His name was Albert, just a coincidence. While thinking about him I decided to get into pipe smoking. So far I only have four pipes, two I bought at an antique shop and two cobs. I don't have a pipe that has a specific story but Everytime I smoke one a think about my Great Grandfather Albert. Thanks for the opportunity and I've followed you right from the beginning of my pipe smoking journey.

Dear fellow pipe smokers, I own a morta pipe that has a very special story to it. It was made for me by the German pipe maker Peter Lehmann. The wood he used comes from an oak which was brought to the surface and discovered after the flood of the century of the River Elbe in Dresden, Germany, in 2002. During that year, my family and I were living in Dresden. Our apartment was flooded by the river, due to that my wife had a miscarriage. Moverover, at the same time, fell ill with a severe virus infection, and my grandmother died of cancer. Hence, having this pipe made for me with wood that is hundreds of years old and came to light due to that horrible event of the flood, the pipe symbolizes hope and the fact that God can make something beautiful out of crisis and pain. Dear Wilson, thank you for all your heart-warming contributions to the YTPC.

I currently live in Ohio, where I grew up. My niece got engaged last year, and ended up getting married back in April. They have decided to move to Arkansas, and wanted to hold their wedding there. While there for the wedding, the morning they were getting married, I visited the local pipe shop to see what they had. I picked up several blends of tobacco, as well as a rusticated Savinelli Clark's Favorite 601 with a long stem. It is currently one of my favorite pipes, and it marks my oldest niece's wedding

I was traveling back from northwestern PA with my family and decided to stop at JM Boswell's shop in Alexandria,PA. As I opened the door with my (adult) son right behind me, I was great with the kindest warmest man I had met in many years. JM himself with a warm welcome and firm handshake. My daughter came in as well later to which she received the same greating, exploring his shop and chatting with JM. I bought my first Boswell pipe that day, JM helped my son pick out a few cigars, and my daughter some candles. My wife decided to find out what happened to us and found us chatting with JM. He looked at her and said, her is some honey, and handed her a jar, "you need something from here to, it's on the house, enjoy." I will never forget this very special day and how we met a man, a true gentleman, and a place where all are welcome.

In 2003 I decided I wanted to get into pipe smoking.(I was 18 )I walked over to the local antique store where I had seen some old pipes in the nooks and crannies of the shop. I found a superb apple pipe inscribed B.R. Israel. It has traveled with me everywhere. He was the only pipe I had for a long time. It would go with me on every hiking trip every bonfire, every hang out guys evening from college onward. I started a post Friday night Bible study, pipe smoking and discussion group to start an accountability group. Every time I hold it in my hand, it is so nostalgic and reminds me of so many wonderful theological discussions that I had with my group of brothers as we all tried to figure out how to navigate life, ministry, and well… Girls we wanted to have as our respective spouses. It’s incredible to see how far God has brought me since that time. I still have it. I did have to do a fair amount of restoration on it this last year. I did damage the bowl from smoking it way too hot when I first started 21 years ago. this pipe has been a blessing.

I received my first and only pipe on May 8th of last year (hard to believe it has already been a year!). After graduating from Bible college (which had us sign a no tobacco and alcohol use form), my wife and I went to Arkansas with our best friends to visit and interview for some ministry positions. As soon as we got out of the state, we stopped for gas, and my friend asked me to grab him a bag from the back, and I did. As we got back on the road, he asked, “Is it time?” and his wife said, “Yes,” and he handed me my first pipe and a bag of tobacco. Later that day, after our long drive, we found a nice place outside, and he taught me how to pack, light, and smoke a pipe. That pipe tells the story of my transition into ministry and the freedom of Christian liberties. Thank you for sharing your stories!

I had been traveling and living in a car for two+ years and I ended up finally settling down on a beautiful property I can hope to "live off the fat of the land". To celebrate my first birthday here, I ended up getting two Missouri Meerschaum pipes (a Legend and a Pride) bunch of bulk blends to dip my toes into the piping world. Since then, I got the Country Gentlemen and my pipe collection is a strong trio. Well.... As for a pipe story, that's about it 😊 I am the beginning of a pipe journey in my family and I hope to create many memories and stories going forward. Maybe with one of your giveaway pipes!

One of my pipes with the greatest memories attached is a claw meerschaum bought for me by my girlfriend. This was my first meerschaum pipe, and thus I was enthralled with all the beauty and character of meerschaum. But this pipe ended up taking on a much greater meaning later. When I was gifted this pipe I was working on completing my thesis and only had one month or so to finish it. This pipe quickly became my companion throughout this last month. On account of the beautiful weather at the time I spent every day sitting outside, typing like a madman, all while smoking this newly acquired meerschaum pipe. At a certain point, I lost track of how many bowls I smoked during this month. But as the deadline approached, more and more color began to develop on this already beautiful pipe. By the end of the month, I had a completed thesis and a once white pipe, now with a stunning patina. I will forever remember this month and the meerschaum pipe that gave me great comfort during this ordeal.

So my special pipe was my only pipe that was my grandfathers, I watched him enjoy it for many years as a kid. I started smoking a pipe not long after i inherented it. Not long after I came to understand you "need" more then one and im broke so I bought a corn cob pipe and I love it, but my brother wanted to get into pipes so we share custody of my grandfathers pipe poor thing gets smoked alot more then it even did when he owned it. Its been a wonderful way to remember the best man ive ever known and enjoy the time I have with my brother, trying new blends turning wrenches in the barn, listening to records its good way to pass time that does involve electronics.

I have 23 pipes and have been at it for 15 years, but one of my best stories comes from one I got last year. For Christmas, my Dad got me a Rattray's Goblin, and it was also my first Rattray's pipe. It is a short and stubby billiard. What makes it special to me other than it coming from my Dad, is I have a cat named Goblin who is half munchkin and every bit as small and stubby as the pipe is.

My father-in-law has a beautiful collection of pipes that I've always admired when visiting his home. My wife and I were about to move halfway across the country and I finally asked him if he would teach me to smoke a pipe. He immediately took me under his wing and drove me to the tobacco shop and helped me pick out a tobacco (a shop blend that I'm pretty sure was Lane 1Q), and get the other necessaries (pipe cleaners, Czech tool). Back at his home, we went to his display of pipes where he proceeded to carefully consider each one, tell a little story about it, and move on until he landed on a pipe that he thought was suitable for me to learn on - a Savinelli Sherwood Rock Briar 4011 - and handed it to me. He taught me how to smoke it and then surprised me by giving it to me as the first pipe in my collection. Ron is the kind of guy who everyone loves instantly. I'm proud to have a pipe that reminds me of this man every time I smoke it. Wilson, thank you for this channel and the great content. I've been subscribed for a long time and almost never miss a video. Greetings from a Presbyterian brother.

I struggle slowing down. Even when watching a movie my mind wanders to unimportant things, my hands figit, I annoy people around me. Finding pipes, specifically my pear wood churchwarden, has given me time for meditation that somehow forces me to enjoy nature, company, and deeply think about my direction and viewpoints on life. Not quite a specific story, but I make one every time I sit down on my porch to listen to the birds play, leaves rustle, water ripple, and my wife hum merrily. Every time I look at that pipe, it brings me contentment, and back to the afternoons with my wife.

I started smoking pipe about a month ago at age 40. I had never tried tobacco at any point previously. I remembered my dad, pap, and grand-dad all smoking pipes. All their tobaccos always smelled good. I picked up a MM country gentleman and a couple single ounces of various Boswell aromatics. I have been enjoying it. I went out to his store last week and pulled the trigger on a Boswell pipe. While I was browsing, he came out of the workshop and I had a chance to chat with him. Very kind fellow. I felt even better about my purchase knowing the care he puts into his pipes and tobaccos. After I paid for my stuff, I went into the lounge and had my first experience with other pipe smokers in person. It was so nice to sit, smoke, and just chat with some people. It’s a long drive, but I expect I will head back if for nothing else to enjoy the lounge again.

Great topic Wilson! The pipe that has the most meaning for me is a Savinelli 207 - Bianca. It marks the funeral day of my long time spiritual father, Fr. Bozung. After the funeral I drove an hour to my closest B&M on the hunt for a pipe to mark this day and express my gratitude. This pipe caught my eye almost immediately. It fits perfectly and almost looks like a black stain (the priest wears black clerics). It has a silver band with two white stripes on the band. That stuck out to me for his white collar and how pure this man’s faith was. I then learned it is called Bianca, meaning white or pure…that did it! This pipe now is smoked in his memory. God bless you all!

I got into pipe smoking after finding my grandpa’s pipe tool in the top drawer of his dresser after he he had passed away. He smoked corncob pipes when he was younger and had stopped before I was born. While I don’t have any of his pipes, I use his tool all the time and it reminds me of the good times we had. I currently only have one commemorative pipe that I got for my first child’s birth in 2022(a boy named Elijah). It is a Peterson 2022 St. Patrick’s day pipe as he was born the day after St. Patrick’s day. I will soon be adding to this tradition when my second son is born in early July of this year. I have not pick one out for the occasion, but I am sure it will be special. Thanks for the content and God Bless.

I had just graduated from college in the Fall of 1969 and had smoked a Dr. Grabow Billiard on and off but upon getting first real job as a Claims Adjuster in Columbus , Ohio complete with company car I thought that I was "flush" with money. I decided to look for a new pipe and one day ventured into Dale's Pipe Lounge in downtown Columbus. I was amazed with the inventory of pipes, tobacco and accessories. I was in heaven until I saw the prices ! However, I did purchase a modest Savinelli Classica # 811 brown sandblasted 1/8 bent billiard pipe at that time. Thus my journey in pipes began. It was a wonderful time for me and for America. I still have this pipe and smoke it frequently and it is a wonderful smoker. Good memories for me.

January of this year my grandma passed away. She was a beloved woman and the glue that held my dad’s side of the family together. Many referred to her as their rock or their favorite woman. To mark the occasion I purchased a Peterson Specialty Calabash hearing that it has been called the “Lady’s Pipe.” I smoke it with fond memories of my grandma in mind. Nice little tie in, too, is that my grandma was one who had enjoyed tobacco back in the day. As I smoke this pipe, it marks the occasion when I visited family amidst snow storms in Wisconsin to see my grandma off at her funeral. It was a hard trip where one of our boys had fallen ill with a high fever and we had to consider if he needed to go to the ER. Happily, the illness passed. The struggles were all worth it, though. As smoke rises to the heavens, I send prayers to God hoping that she resides with Him in Heaven. I look forward to seeing her again. Thanks for this opportunity to reminisce. God bless!

My oldest type is a no name small bur pipe, a sitter that I received many years ago after my grandfather passed away. It belong to him, and although he smokes cigars more than pipes, I still remember him smoking out on the patio on a sunny Sunday with his cup of coffee. He always smoke cherry tobacco out of it and I love the smell. So when I want to think of him, I grab that pipe and pack it with some cherry tobacco.

Pipes tell stories. Pipes also can have very fond memories. I was given a pipe by my in-laws one Christmas past. My wife’s family live in Russia. So we have visited many times. Now understand my wife at the time didn’t approve of me smoking a pipe. But my dear mother in law smoothed things over by telling her to let me enjoy it. And Christmas came around and the whole family went together to give me a lorenzo spitfire pipe. Now it’s not by any means my best smoker but I would choose it over ever pipe in my collection. When I smoke it, it takes me back to that Xmas and the love of family.

Thanksgiving of 2019 my younger brother came in from out of state. We are very close, and although he lived abroad, we would talk often and stay up to date on each other's interests. Most often I would sit on my back porch and enjoy a bowl of tobacco while we talked. So, when he came in for Thanksgiving he finally got to see first hand how taken with the hobby I had become. That Christmas he gifted me my first Peterson System Standard pipe as a total surprise. After I opened it he told me that he'd never seen the beauty and artistry in the pipes themselves until he came in for Thanksgiving. He went home and began looking for my pipe, and told me that when he first laid eyes on it, he knew it was the one. Every time I sit down to smoke it, I think of how generous he was in gifting it to me. It is the best smoker I have, and speaking of which, I should probably let him pick out another for me some time soon!

I took up pipe smoking in at the end of 2022, start of 2023, and although it didn't start out well, I have enjoyed the hobby tremendously. My favorite pipe in the collection is a 2022 St. Patrick pipe from Peterson that my wife bought me for Father's Day in 2023 (thanks to some help from my son). If there was a fire in the home, that's the one pipe I'd grab. It is chief among my pipes because it marks the moment when my wife went from loathing my hobby to not just tolerating it, but encouraging the good she saw it bring to my day. I remember opening my Father's day gift with utter shock....not only was it a pipe, but it was a Peterson (my first Peterson in fact), and it was a St. Patrick pipe. Smoked that beauty the same day and it's only gotten better!

My best pipe I got as an estate at the local tobacconist shop. Always makes me think of that great community, how it's developed and how it develops, how its patrons eventually share or pass on their tools of the trade to young'uns looking to keep that smoke flowing. Sometimes makes me consider where it'll be when I'm on to greener pastures.

The most valued pipe I have is by now nearly 70 years old, a Ratos of Sweden City Old Briar. That was my dad's favorite pipe. It's nothing fancy really. I got it when he left for, let's say, a more peaceful place. It not only tells his life story in a way but now also mine. I was never allowed to touch it when he was still with us, not even as an adult. He loved that pipe. It's the last thing I have of him. I would literally break, in more ways than one, if I ever lost it or, heaven forbid, if I ever dropped and damaged it. So, that's the story of my fathers, now my, favorite pipe.

I've always been really into 40s/50s Americana - the whole aesthetic of classic diners, sharp suits, and that slower pace of life. That's what drew me to a tobacco pipe. It feels like a small way to connect with that era, a little ritual that might have been part of someone's everyday routine back then. Plus, there's something undeniably sophisticated about a well-kept pipe - it feels like a step back to a time of simpler pleasures. I’ve only been smoking pipe for a little over a year. I first bought a cheap gas station pipe, think I paid $14 for it lol, to see if I would like it. I met a guy in Indiana, I drove an 18 wheeler at the time, who smokes a pipe and he introduced me to the world of all the different blends and I started trying them out and soon realized I prefer aromatics. After a while I started getting serious about it and got me a Mirschaum. (I probably just butchered the spelling of that lol) to mark the occasion of getting serious into it. After smoking it for a while I learned that it’s good to have several pipes to rotate so I ordered an Ebony Dublin by Peterson. I absolutely love that pipe! I recently had to get my pinky toe amputated due to infection and am no longer driving the truck. Been looking at pipes trying to decide on one to get in order to mark this new beginning in my life. Thank you for your videos! I have learned a whole lot from you that has taught me how to enjoy the pipe a good bit more. God bless you, Pastor!

I got into pipe smoking this past December,2023. A co-worker has smoked pipes for many years and I would come into work and raze him and pretend I was smoking a pipe. Well, for Christmas 2023, he bought me a Missouri meerschaum, country gentleman with some tobacco, (Oxford), a blend he has made. And so it began, my pipe tobacco journey. The meerschaum will always be my favorite pipe as it was given to me by a friend.

I got into pipe smoking quite recently, around November 2023. At that moment I was planning to move to New Zealand, the whole process had a few hiccups but eventually everything settled down and I took a one way flight to Auckland at the age of 21. When I arrived I wanted to get a pipe to commemorate this huge step in my life, while searching I found an Austrian ceramic pipe from around 1950. It's a gorgeous red ceramic with golden paint in some of its borders. To me it marks the beginning of a period of great learning and courage to push for my dreams.

The dearest pipe I have is my Savinelli 1999 Collection pipe. It is the first pipe my wife bought me on her own without my knowledge. She gifted it to me on my 25th birthday only a few months ago, and I’m sure no pipe will surpass it in sentimental value! I only smoke it on special occasions, but it is one of my best smoking pipes.

My one and only Peterson pipe (Rocky Donegal) I bought from their shop in Dublin when I went on a trip to Ireland in 2005. I took the trip to celebrate beating Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer that year, so the pipe is significant of that health victory.

I bought a pipe because I was playing Sherlock Holmes in a short film. I used it in a couple of the films we did, and in a few other videos over the years, but it mostly just sat in my drawer. Years later, I started getting into cigars, and thought "I ought to give the pipe a try." It took me a while to get the hang of it, but now it's part of my life. I still use cigars more, but I've established a decent little pipe/tobacco collection. And still using that first pipe 🙂

2019 Peterson Christmas pipe...I have that exact model in my collection. I think that might be my personal favorite in my collection in terms of aesthetics. It is truly a thing of beauty. Most of my pipes don't tell much a story in themselves. I don't really know that many pipe smokers in my day to day life, so most of my collection I have just purchased online at random. I do have one...it was sort a grail pipe for me...sort of a meerschaum Sherlock Holmes style gourd calabash. I've been a Holmes fan since I was a little kid. In fact, I have a picture of me dressed as Sherlock Holmes for Halloween dress up day at school as a kid. I had a deerstalker hat, a magnifying glass, and a pipe I...uh..."borrowed" off my grandfather. The picture is hilarious because it was taken by the principal of all the kids who dressed up as a book character for that Halloween day at school. (This was unusual for the time.) There I am in 4th grade in this school picture holding a pipe. One can only imagine how school administrators would lose their minds these days if a kid showed up at school with a pipe, but back then nobody batted an eye. (It was the rural South after all). Don't know whatever happened to that pipe, as my grandfather is long since gone, but I found another one that looked exactly like it at a charity thrift store in this small town I was driving through last year. I just happened to wander into this thrift store because I was driving and had stopped for gas. I had been looking for a pipe like it for a long time, but they are always so expensive online, and never quite found what I was looking for. But there is was, in a glass case with some pocket knives and other knickknacks. I did not have any cash on me at the time, and they didn't take credit cards. I talked the lady into holding it for me, as I had to drive to the next town and find an ATM and drive back. Really, I paid peanuts for what I would have paid online for a similar pipe, and its obviously not the one in the old picture, but I found my substitute grandfather Sherlock Holmes pipe some 35 years later.

I was first introduced to pipe smoking by my great grandfather when I was very very little. Some of my earliest memories are of me sitting on his lap and him telling me the story of the 3 Little Pigs and his pipe table was always planted beside his chair. When he passed away, and I would visit my Mema, I would find his pipe table and look at his pipe collection. The smell of the ash and the difference in pipes he had was always so interesting to me. Fast forward to today, I’ve taken up pipe smoking myself and I’ve started a small collection. One I truly cherish is my Grabow Royal Duke. It was the first proper pipe I ever bought for myself and whenever I smoke it, I am reminded of the memories I have of my Pepa. My next goal is to get some of his old pipes and integrate them into my collection.

So many of my pipes tell a story, but I’ll share the one which quickly came to mind. I purchased a used Mark Tinsky pipe when I first got into pipe smoking. Unfortunately, the stem broke in transit so I reached out to Mark and asked if he could fix it. The pipe was originally made in 1986-1988 19:52 and I purchased it around 2013. He said to ship it him and he would see what he could do. Once he received the pipe he contacted straight away telling me the story of him making the pipe. He did it once, borrowing a friend’s equipment, and it was such a pain he didn’t make the style again. He fixed up the stem for me, shipped it back, and I recall that story every time I see the pipe.

Well I suppose I should start with the First pipe I own. And it is from MBSD pipes! They are truly a great company and their service is second to none. I got into pipe smoking in October of 2023 and I picked out a lovely Canadian by a small company called Michels Naturals. I had no idea what to look for in a pipe other than it looked amazing. I love the Canadian style and the grain of a smooth finish. It reminds me of how detailed God is with creation. I just marvel at the beauty of briar grain and think how amazing is it that God mad the root of a plant to look like that. It will forever be in my collection because it is my first pipe. I am honored to have bought my first pipe from such a company as MBSD.

I'm actually a brand new pipe smoker. I am currently moving into a new house with some land on which I want to do a bit more homesteading and raise my kids. We have a goal of learning to be good stewards of the things God gives us, and we have been wanting to learn to live off the land and pass down those skills to our children for generations and recover things that current generations are losing. I bought a pipe after a friend told me about his experiences with it, and, so far, I've enjoyed sitting outside in the country, smoking my Missouri Meerschaum Legend. I'm still learning, but have enjoyed the process and reflecting on the blessings the Lord has given me.

I recently bought a beautiful vintage Savinelli lumberman on a trip to buffalo. The man who was running the store was a third generation owner. When I asked if they had any pipes not on display he asked my if there was anything specific I was looking for. When he returned he explained that the three generations have been actively collecting pipes for about 100 years, and they had thousands of estate pipes kept in the back. Thats the sort of thing that'll make you a life time return customer. I can't begin to imagine the hidden gems they have stowed away.

My fascination with pipe smoking recently began when I first watched Malcolm Guite read Lord of the Rings and smoke a pipe on KZfaq. This led me to explore the craft through channels like Muttnchop Piper and now here on TheSpurgeonPiper, where I not only learned techniques but also felt a sense of community. The Bing's Favorite by Savinelli caught my eye in a video, and I fell in love with its beautiful design and elegant shape. After some consideration I decided to buy one, and it lived up to all my expectations and more. It is my first pipe, and it will always be special to me -it started my journey into the world of pipe smoking. I’ll always keep it, even as I grow my collection in the future.

My second pipe I purchased when my wife and I moved into our new home just 5 mins from our church. I went to the local cigar/tobacco shop that was right by our house to see what they had available. While purchasing some lane limited tobacco I noticed a green pipe with a golden mouth piece behind a glass display. It caught my eye but I simply purchased the tobacco and sat down to smoke a bowl. As I was getting ready to leave I walked by the display again and had to ask to see the pipe. Once I found out it was only being sold for $54 I had to buy it. I have really enjoyed my smoking sessions using this pipe.

I am still very much a novice pipe smoker. My first pipe was actually hand made by my brother and myself because at the time I couldn't afford to buy one. We made it out of a piece of Oakwood. I know, not the best wood to use for it, so now I don't use it. I more just keep it as a memory of that time. We made it when we were struggling the most financially, didn't even have any power cause our electricity was cut, but we made it through. Whenever I'm struggling, I think back to it, and how we literally made it in the night with nothing more than some old carving knives and a few candles to light everything. We didn't have much else to do, so it helped pass the hours away. I still look back at that night, and smile.

I've been pipe smoking for just under a year. Both of my pipes have been gifts from my wife, but the second one has a little more story attached to it. It's a simple corncob - Country Gentleman from Missouri Meerschaum, but it made an important journey. My father and his friends in high school began a camping/fishing tradition on a native trout stream in Pennsylvania. They backpack in a couple of miles, fish for the weekend, and pack out. This year marked the 46th year of said trip. I have been jointing them since I was 8 years old, making it 31 years for me. My 2 sons now have begun and there are 3 generations of men sharing the tradition. Some of the men smoke cigars on this trip, but I believe I was the first pipe smoker. I also have a picture with my pipe in mouth and one of the most beautiful native brook trout that I've ever caught. The pipe has entered an old and special tradition and will help keep those memories alive when my father is unable to hike with me and my sons.

I have a Peterson Aran Smooth 999 that I bought from a brick and mortar store in Birmingham, AL. My late wife was with me, and it was just one stop on a special day spent with her. In 2020, she went on to be with the Lord after a short fight with cancer. She was 28. That pipe reminds me of God's goodness and mercy, even during the storms of life. Since then, God has united me with another spouse, given me a child, and blessed me with a vocational ministry position where I can make it my life's work to share the hope of Christ with young people. As a fellow Baptist minister, I love what you do, Wilson. May God continue to bless you and keep you, and may you be covered in the dust of your Master (an old Jewish blessing).

My Grandfather gave me my first pipe and a pouch of Carter Hall when I was 16. It was a Dr Grabow Bulldog. Pops passed a few years ago, but I still think about that day quite often, I was sitting on an old paint bucket, taking lunch break, at a dirty construction site when he tossed me a bag from the local drug store and said “here you go kid, don’t tell yer Momma!” Never was there a harder man, or a better craftsman. He was full of piss and vinegar, yet completely patient and understanding at the same time. That was a little over 30 years ago, I have spent my entire life trying to walk in his foot steps. I can only hope I am half the man he was. I still pull that old beat up pipe from time to time and have a smoke, It feels like he is there with me, giving me advice, and guiding me though life's ups and downs. It is my most cherished possession. God Speed Pops, this bowls for you.

I had been eyeing MBSD meerschaum pipes for a long time. Bremen Pipe Smoker here on KZfaq almost exclusively smokes meerschaum pipes and has a lot of great content related to meerschaum pipes. He had talked about in his videos how the newer made meerschaums were all coming in pretty small shapes and wished there were carvers releasing more classic styles and the normal size of pipes that were available from our normal pipe companies. My daughter was born on April 13th, 2024 the pregnancy for my wife had gone very smoothly and I prayed continuously that God would bless her and my soon to be born daughter. When my daughter was born I bought myself a large apple lattice meerschaum from MBSD pipes. I was more than pleased with the shape, design, and the hand written card they included with the pipe. As my daughter continues to grow and change the meerschaum will patina over time and also change. Every time I smoke this pipe for the years to come I will think of her and the blessing that she has been to me and my wife.

I don’t own many pipes yet as I am still a novice. Though I bought my first pipe back in my college days, I honestly didn’t know what I was doing and had no guidance. Thus, I puffed without reprieve on my poor briar, leading to a hot pipe, tongue bite, and everything else that comes along with making beginner mistakes, including not realizing that it was necessary to clean the thing! Thus, I quickly became disillusioned and set it down for 20+ years. Recently I came across my old pipe and decided to give it another go, but this time I did my homework and spent time listening to two primary individuals: Alan Harrelson and you. It was transformative. I am now happy to say I found a new hobby, something which I have not had in years. I obtained a couple Missouri Meerschaums after learning the importance of pipe rotation and eventually decided to spend a few bucks and sorting for something nice. I wanted a good, established name and something that was known to smoke cooler due to my aforementioned history of tongue bite. Eventually I settled on a Savinelli 601 Churchwarden. This is now my most cherished smoking pipe and I’m humbly excited to be embarking on this new adventure.

After drifting in and out of pipe smoking and sticking with cigarettes for 15 years I decided to give them up. When I did I threw away everything related to smoking, yes including that wonderful Peterson that he bought me(my wife warned me not to throw it away). Having now returned to pipe smoking this past year my wife purchased me my second peterson for Christmas, a green spigot #03 fishtail. It reminds me of that original Peterson and those days when I would smoke a pipe with my Dad(who has since gone to be with the Lord). Maybe one day I'll buy another as they still make that same model. May God bless you and your Ministry brother.

I got my first pipe a year ago, a corn-cob that I pushed my pipe tool through, so no "memorable first-pipe" for me. Then I mostly took advantage of sales to get a few decent quality brand name briars, so no stories there either. But! I want pipes for memorable occasions, so since I'm getting married in 22 days I have today got myself a beautiful meerschaum pipe. It's carved with a pretty pattern that looks like the white lace of a wedding dress and the stem is marbled green and white, which is the colour-scheme of the wedding. I shan't smoke it until the wedding, but I hope to enjoy it in good times and bad until death do us part. It's a wonderful metaphor.

I’m fairly new to pipe smoking (February 24 of this year) and bought my first pipe because I had been going through a lot between my grandfather passing away a couple weeks prior, and just feeling a general discontentment with my work and my volunteer ministry at church. Whilst smoking that pipe, I not only was told by my wonderful wife that I reminded her of a grandpa, which helped me to focus on the good times I had with mine, rather than the loss I felt. But also smoking it in solitude, I was able to take the time to dive deeper into Scripture and recognize my calling into pastoral ministry. I’m hoping to start school this year, and I look forward to smoking that same pipe and others while unwinding from a day of working and studying.

The joy of holding a pipe must go deep into our nature. My great grandfather passed away in the early 90's and I only have vague memories of him. When going through his belongings I was allowed to pick a few items of his. The only thing that intrigued me was his pipe. Being fairly young my parents allowed this, and there the pipe sat tucked away in one of my dresser drawers for years. I would look at it now and then, but nothing further. But I always enjoyed holding it. Having now only recently getting into pipe smoking and really enjoying it, I dug a little deeper to find out my grandfather's pipe is a Falcon with a briar bowl. To now enjoy pipe tobacco like he did makes this pipe very special to me. A couple of generations have passed, but his pipe has finally been relit. The other pipe of special value is my first pipe; A Missouri Meerschaum Diamondback. Maybe someday my great grandchild will discover it.

Hey brother, I’m also in pastoral ministry so I can really resonate with the “hardship pipe” acquisition. I have a Nording bulldog that reminds me of a rough season I had to pass through. But my favorite pipe story is my JM Boswell pipe. Last Christmas I took a trip with my dad to Boswells in PA for where he bought me a pipe for a Christmas gift. I seldom get time with just my dad since we live several states apart, and life is full with family and ministry. Anyhow, Mr. Boswell was at the shop that day so we got to sit and talk with him for a while. One of the reasons I love the hobby is for the relational element, and my trip to Boswells reminds me of that. This video has been one of my favorites. Your channel helped me really get into the hobby. And I always appreciate scanning your bookshelves for the solid theology books. Keep persevering in your labor for the Lord, knowing it’s not in vain!

I also get a pipe to specially commemorate my kid's conception so I can reflect and pray over my children while I smoke them. Love your channel. Love that it is Christ centric. Thank you.

So, I really started the hobby in 1985 when I was 32, and moved south. I didn’t own many pipes then and just kind of got by with the three or so that I owned. I was definitely a novice 😊. My son got married in 2002 and he and his wife honeymooned in California wine country. When they returned he surprised me with my first Meerschaum that I will never get rid of and is still a favorite of mine. It has grown with me and its color certainly confirms it! Thanks for sharing your stories!

Two pipes that mean a lot to me. First my Peterson Sherlock my wife got it for me for Christmas when we first got married so definitely an awesome memory. Second my honey bowl radiator pipe. It belonged to my wife’s grandfather and the fact that she trust me with it means a lot. Side note I grew up in a preachers home the story’s on yours with certain years of your ministry took me back to certain points in my childhood when I remember my dad locking himself in his study to pray and smelling the pipe smoke waft under the door made me smile. Thanks for that.

I’ve only been into pipe smoking for a couple of months. I actually started because I found a 125 year old Manhattan briar pipe with gold plate and horned stem at a local antique store for $47. I have yet to smoke it because I’m waiting for a special occasion. I acquired a few other cheaper estate pipes that are decent but actually looking at Peterson or others in that range. I started with aromatic tobacco’s but soon realized (after 3 smokes) that aromatics aren’t for me and I really enjoy English and Virginia blends. Glad to see you in your new home. My brother is a pastor at a smaller church in Canby Oregon and had a lot of issues the first year he took over his church (usually happens that first year). Glad to hear you are doing well there now. Although I’m not a long subscriber, your channel has helped me with tobacco selections these last few weeks!

My first Christmas as a pipe smoker I had two different family members buy me pipes from different sides of the family. I didn’t give them any details for what I wanted or brands and they don’t talk at all. Somehow out of the thousands of pipes available, they both bought me the same brand, same shape, everything. The only difference was one was rusticated and one was smooth. They’ve become two of my favorite pipes for English’s

I have been a cigar smoker but am new to smoking a pipe. My friend from church gave me two estate pipes he had picked up and I have loved the hobby thus-far. I am looking forward to many more stories to come in the future! Who knows, maybe one of my kids will pick the hobby up! -Joe Campbell

Great video! Love the setup with the pipes on the clock. Here’s my story: In 2012 I was fortunate enough to be studying abroad in England and a group of friends and I decided to travel to Ireland for a few days. We made it to Dublin and as we were wandering the streets I came upon a window display through which I could see many, many pipes. The walls of the store were filled with them. I had been dabbling in pipe smoking at the time and so I recognized the brand name “Peterson.” I quickly went inside and, with the help of the salesman, picked up a Donegal Rocky 221. I smoked it a few times but, after a while, practically forgot about the pipe, thinking of it mostly as a souvenir. But in 2017, I rediscovered the ytpc and various pipe podcasts and knew I wanted to approach smoking more seriously. That little Peterson “souvenir” became my gateway back into the hobby in a big way. It’s a great smoker and I’ll cherish it forever because it represents two special moments: my Ireland trip with friends and my journey as a true and committed pipe smoker!

Thanks for sharing your collection. I am about a year into my pipe smoking journey and bought a special pipe this Christmas. It was a Missouri Meerschaum Christmas corn cob and marks the my first Christmas as a married man. I hope to get a Christmas pipe every year going forward.

What a great video. My pipe collection is by far not as extensive yet, but it sure is growing. I needed a way to limit myself on purchasing pipes, now being 3 years into pipe smoking. Browsing on websites and getting into the specialties of artisan pipes surely increases the urge to fill up the virtual basket. I have made it my rule to only buy pipes in Brick and Mortar Stores when I travel with my family. By now I have collected several pipes from different locations that remind me about the location or trip we took when smoking them. And with each purchase I had engaging conversations in the shops with the owners or other visitors - such great memories and teachable moments...
