Update: The example in the end of this video got muted for copyright.
You can find the whole example here: • Big Hero 6 X Finding N...
Have you guys noticed how Pixar does this?
I managed to find this pattern in a lot of Pixar films, even though they aren't the only (or the first!) ones to do this.

I think the dumbest part of it being claimed on that part of the video is that moments before he was playing it over the original scenes but somehow it stopped being ok when he puts it over big hero six.

I think I know what this guy is saying. So, have you seen Brave? (Spoiler alert) There's a flashback Merida has 1night &she's remembering this lullaby her Mom sings on a stormy night. The tune is so beautiful. Mom says in the memory "I will always be right here". Later, when Merida believes she will lose her Mom, they play the lullaby as the2 cry, & Merida echoes what her Mom said, "You were always their for me". It makes me cry, & the Up theme is a good example. It plays happy& up beat when their happy, then (spoilers) when his wife dies, the same song is low& slow. (If you'll pardon both of my puns).

Music can make or break a movie, show or even a video game. Music is one aspect of movies that can not be overlooked, an essential tool to create the mood you'd want in your writing. There are movies out there that lack the proper music in certain scenes and it usually turns the viewers off.

When She Loved Me in TS2 is the saddest scene in Pixar imo. Seeing Jessie being so happy with Emily and then being forgotten under the bed to then being donated hurts so much! Makes me feel bad for all the toys I’ve abandoned and the music plays such a big role. There’s so much emotion in the vocals.

It may not be an example related to Pixar, but that moment when Aragorn, along with everyone else, bows to the hobbits and "Concerning Hobbits" starts playing is a real tear jerker. How it works for me, as far as I can tell, is that this melody represents the peace and contentment of life in the shire. Having it encompass the hobbits' journey in the trilogy not only *finally* marks an end to that grueling trip, it also puts all the horrors they overcame along the way in contrast to the peace they can return to now. That moment, in that scene, builds on three epic films worth of tension which the music helps me release. And because it's a very well-told story that kept me invested at all times, that's a lot of feels.

Watch Me Rise as a media student in university I have to deal with this law a lot. This does t come under the fair use law of the copyright act because it is a copyrighted sequence, and a copyrighted soundtrack being put together and then shared on a public site. Although it is mentioned in the video through speech, the names of said copyrighted products aren’t mentioned in the description. Educational purposes are a bit sketchy because although it is teaching us something about music composition, it still technically just an experiment and not originally intended to teach us anything. It was just a good idea which, I am sad to say was unable to be shown. But as a piano player and someone who can play the memo theme, listening to it in my head while watching that sequence confirms his theory. It brings tears to your eyes. A movie I love, and a soundtrack from a movie I grew up with, perfect match. Oh, and the memo theme is still one of the best soundtracks...

As someone who has lost his brother... I didn't need any music for that scene in Big Hero 6. I cried like a baby. I actually had to pause the movie and come back to it later because it hurt too much to watch. While I understand the point of this video, and agree, music is there to "enhance" a scene. 100% agree with the final point of the video: my main problem with Big Hero 6 was that there was really no hummable melody for the movie. I wanted to cover one of the pieces from that movie, but they were all conglomerations of different musical ideas that didn't seem to have any unifying thread. Not to discredit Henry Jackman, but establishing some sort of family theme there for the funeral scene and the remembrance scene (among others) would have made those moments hit so much harder
@gorgolyt
@gorgolyt 7 жыл бұрын
Isn't that the opposite of what he said? He claimed that it doesn't really matter how good ("hummable") the melody is, there just has to be a melody there to connect moments. I totally disagree, some melodies and music are emotionally resonant on their own. This should be pretty obvious because plenty of music is not written for films or connected to any other emotional stimuli. The Finding Nemo theme was touching because it was used as a theme for Nemo and Marlin's relationship, but also because the musical theme is beautiful by itself. Writing off the music itself (and whether it is in major or minor etcetera) as irrelevant is pretty naive and flawed in my opinion.
@DavidRussell323
@DavidRussell323 7 жыл бұрын
I think that we just took away different messages from the video. As I understood it, leitmotifs throughout a film's hard-hitting moments will help establish an audience's connection with the central themes and ideas the movie wants to present. I'm totally with you in that music is emotionally resonant on its own, speaking as a musician. And I wasn't saying that the movie had bad music at all--actually, one of my favorite scores from Big Hero 6 was "Nerd School"--but by not using a threaded motif to unify related parts of film, there's a huge missed opporitunity for the audience to engage with the scene, which is what I think the video's point was. The reason "Nemo Egg" works so well in the BH6 scene is because we understand it as a family loss/bonding melody through the context of Finding Nemo. In contrast, "Time" by Hans Zimmer, though stunningly beautiful in much the same way, wouldn't work as well because its context in Inception doesn't connect with that theme all too closely. --Cheers!

The Studio Ghibli soundtracks are amazing- I honestly think they wouldn't even be half as memorable without the music. They just fit so well together! :D

ah I love all the explaination. like discussing this with friends I was just like, "yeah this is the tune that appears when Sully becomes a Dad". and I think not only does it remind the audience of his relationship to Boo everytime the motif plays, but also I think it'd works to dredge up the emotions that people have around relationships of their own that reflect Boo and Sully's dynamic

I'd like to say I love all of your videos and I find it really interesting how there is so much detail put into movie scores. I may be wrong but I think the music playing during Tidashi's video clips is a solo piano version of "I'm on top of the world" which played during Beymax's first flight scene. I think it implied that with all this new change and adventure in Hero's life, the only adventure he's missing and the only one he truly wants is the brotherly love the two share. I understand that the theme could've been solidified more but if my interpretation is correct then I think the score writers deserve credit for inserting something so small but effecting in creating emotion.

That movie was the saddest movie out of all disney films!! There is something wrong with u if u dont cry watching it
