Is it possible to predict the Stalk Market? Can we really abuse this system to obtain infinite bells? Today we dive into this topic and explain how players cracked the Stalk Market in the original Animal Crossing.

❓FAQ:
Q: How does your game quality look so good?
A: My recordings are done with an HD community texture pack for the game ran through Dolphin emulator. This pack is very high quality and requires artists to hand-draw the textures to upscale even to 8K. You can find information on this pack here:

the coincidence of sow's japanese name literally meaing "stock exchange" and "turnip selling granny" depending on how you separate the syllables is just too good. nintendo might as well have rewritten the language for that pun.

Japanese is chock full of these kinds of puns. It's not exactly a surprise to see something like this. What is surprising is how well the stock market can be turned into the "stalk market" in English.

@@OhramiI have a feeling they were thinking about the English version when they designed Joan and the stalk market. Or at least also had English puns in mind while designing it, since Joan's Japanese name has nothing to do with her being a pig and only has to do with turnips, yet they designed her as a pig for the sow- dow pun. Whoever came up with all the cross language punnery involved must have been very proud of themselves lol.

@@Ohrami do you have proof(like an interview)? sometimes devs will develop games while keeping localization in mind. ghost trick phantom detective, for example, was designed without any words in the artwork to make localization easier. conversly, the second and third ace attorney games were made under the assumption they wouldn't be localized after the first game originally went untranslated, which is why they have a much heavier embrace of japanese culture than the first game. not saying you are wrong, just that without direct confirmation one way or the other, there's a chance that the other commenter is right.

There's another limiting factor of Turnip selling. There's a limited amount of time in the day you can buy them. Some of that time will be taken for initial setup, and the rest will tick down as your VERY limited inventory space fills and needs to be continuously drained over time. I don't know if it'd be possible to fill every available space, even given optimal routing and enough bells to work with.

I appreciate it! This is my first and only KZfaq channel, but I’ve been watching content passively for years of course. I guess as a long time viewer I kinda picked up on things that I’d like to see in a video, so I now try to include as many as high quality edits and details as possible. For example, I found a lot of technical or glitch explanations would just have random gameplay in the background with voiceover, whereas an edited graphic to serve as a visual aid when you’re explaining it would be much more effective. It takes more time and effort of course, but I think the end result is a lot more people come off with a better understanding of what I’m trying to explain. I’m glad people appreciate the little extra details like that!

this is exactly the content I was looking for. animal crossing x programming quirks essentially. not sure if you're reading comments but I have a video suggestion. I always wondered how you could run the entire game while removing the disk, because the entire 32MB (?) can be held in memory, only needing to reinsert it for saving and multiplayer as far as I remember. But what is actually going on in memory, while you use the NES consoles, visit the Island etc.?
@Hunter-R.
@Hunter-R. 8 ай бұрын
This is because this game is actually a port of a Nintendo 64 game. Since the N64 has such low memory, the game is actually pretty small and it can fit entirely in the GameCube’s memory. There’s nothing really special going on while you use the NES consoles or visit the island - all of that is just present on the disk and makes up the main game as well. But yea you do need the memory card to save.

I feel like New Horizons' stalk market might be worth talking about - trends could be predicted with minimal input, more input only increasing accuracy of the spike prediction. (And in general, I think it was rather exciting from a casual perspective, since the spike was certain, you just didn't know when and how big it was, or if there'd be any fake out spikes)

Daisy Mae’s name is also a reference to a financial thingy - the Federal National Mortgage Association, FNMA, often called Fannie Mae! as to why the first part of it was changed from Fannie to Daisy, i assume that in English, “Fannie” sounds like “fanny”, which is a very inappropriate word, especially in british english (and i imagine nintendo didn’t wanna run into another mario party 8 situation of accidentally using a VERY not-good word in british english)

I've often considered doing something like this where I'd have a second town, keep moving the days forward until a spike and then sell by moving between the two towns. How does the game handle towns with different times? I guess I'd keep the second town looping the same week so the time didn't get too far ahead for the turnips to spoil during the trip. Also you would need 3 memory cards for this I think.

RE: 4:03 Hey wait, if the buy and sell prices of turnips are multiplicatively linked and turnip supply is infinite, doesn't that mean that a high-price week isn't necessarily more profitable and instead just more space-efficient? A 10k Bell investment is going to yield 70k in profits regardless of if you buy at 70 Bells or 129, so the only thing price-per-turnip influences is how many stacks of items your investment takes up and thus how many turnips you'll have lying around.
@Hunter-R.
@Hunter-R. 8 ай бұрын
Indeed! You will always get a 700% profit no matter what price you buy at, whether that's investing 10k @ 70bells or 10k @ 129bells. You mentioned space as the limiting factor here, which is a super smart observation - but that is not the only reason it makes more sense to buy higher. Arguably another important factor here is time, as you only have until 12PM to buy turnips from Joan and picking up/dropping bells and turnips takes a ludicrously long time in the GameCube version with the limited inventory space. So buying at a higher price will mean less turnips purchased overall, saving a bunch of time (and sanity) as well!

I’m not experienced enough with the N64 game to say for sure, but I’ll likely do more research into those versions in the future. I know for sure that version has the same beta maps, but the holidays, scene IDs, and RNG calculations are probably a bit different.

I have a video idea. What if you put ROM hacks (NES games made by the community) into Animal Crossing's built-in emulator? What would happen? When I did one, it reset my game and gaveme Mr. Resetti. The ROM hack I tried was called Sonic 1 NES improvement (Basically Somari with Sonic Instead)
@Hunter-R.
@Hunter-R. 8 ай бұрын
I have a video on NES ROM injection already, which I'm not sure if you've seen or not. ROM hacks should work perfectly when injected into Animal Crossing, so long as it was used to patch an actual ROM and it doesn't go beyond typical ROM memory limitations. For example, I used a ROM hack to patch Fire Emblem NES with an English translation, which you can see briefly in one of my shorts.

Every 10-12 days? On a predetermined 8x roi? So you'd already make a profit by just buying every week and selling only on a price spike (or the last day).

Pretty much. A single price spike week can make up for months of selling at a loss.

I love finding videos about AC Gamecube, especially ones that are well-made! Thank you!

I wanted the original animal Crossing since like 2018 when i got my first Gamecube games to play on my backwards compatible wii. Back then it was only like 20€ but it skyrocketed so much and i was unable to find one with the Memory card and VIP code included but now i finaly found one and bit the bullet. I wish the Community of people like you or Brian MP16 who are pushing the boundaries of this game were bigger. The original game was way more about Simulating the feeling of Community and freely living in a town as a regular citizen like everybody else instead of ultimate customization wich makes this game more unique. I love watching content about this game.

this might be the first time a game has come close to actually offering 900% value

I can never understand the thought process behind this sort of thing... "we made a tool so you can know this seed without hacking the game... we just had to hack the game to make the tool".

Genuinely curious. What will happen when you run out of things to say about the GCN animal crossing and how it works? Will you move onto the next animal crossing game? Will you talk about animal forest for the N64?

That's a valid concern and one I've worried a bit about, but is thankfully a bridge I won't have to cross for awhile. I'm actually working quite hard behind the scenes on planning out the future of this channel, including detailed scheduling of videos. So far, I'm well into April 2024 with potential ideas. When the day comes that there is no longer anything super interesting to cover in the original Animal Crossing, I'll likely cover other games or topics in a similar manner. But for now, I'm focusing on the immediate future.
