I think that many people in Poland take the war in Ukraine very personally and emotionally. It is so unjust what happened to you and other Ukrainian people. We understand it is human duty to help you. Our grandparents said to us what it means to "have experience" with russian army, so the whole situation is touching us very deeply. Now we have a unique opportunity to meet each other, I mean Ukrainian and Polish nationalities, and I hope that we will use it to build a great cooperation in terms of economy and tourism in the near future.

@Jan-eh7nf2 жыл бұрын

It was a secret. Poles and Poland have created a wonderful country to live in. We just argue with ourselves very loudly, so that in other countries they think that it is strange here 😉 Seriously, I see people from all over the world on KZfaq that they like it here very much. I think Poland can become an interesting alternative to life for many people. We are a bit strange sometimes, we don't smile in the street. But our hospitality and willingness to help will be hard to find in the world. And something that shocks Americans. We are very direct! If you ask us how was your day? We will tell you that it is bad, that our stomach hurts or the rain surprised us 😂 zero bullshit. But it's supposed to be very refreshing if someone tells you exactly what they feel without the mask. If we like it or don't like it, we just say it, regardless of the consequences.

Poland ❤Ukraine - I remember the first days when the war broke out. Many of my friends from Warsaw went to the Ukrainian border to help. Help was organized in all Polish cities. Many people took the Ukrainians into their homes. I'm shocked how the war brought these two countries together. There are many wars in the world, but it's the first time I've seen strangers helping each other in such a way, unlike, for example, Arab countries. Poles understand what war is with Russia and Germany. Warsaw was demolished 75% of the time. Building after building was destroyed. The old town was destroyed 99%. Thank you for a good word about Poland because, for example, the Germans can only count money and they criticize Poland all the time, while for the Poles honor is more important than money.

Poles are known for their hospitality. It's sth we were raised with, it's in our vains. This situation we are in right now, lots of people in need coming to Poland, was a triger to make this Polish hospitality more visible. But this is not a one-off action, but a permanent national trait that we cherish. So far you are talking about random people you met somewhere on the street, in the office or health centre, but once you make some Polish friends, real friends, once they open up, you will see what Polish hospitality realy is. Good luck to both of you! I'm glad you are enjoying your stay in Poland

In three months I will be moving back to Poland from the UK. Your positive words make me so happy as I hear only negative things from my Polish friends who say Poland is not like the western countries. They tell me it will bad for our teenage kids. I am going through emotional rollercoaster whether or not I will regret my decision. I lived in the Netherlands for a long time before as well. Trying to watch Polish vlogs of people who returned to Poland doesn't always make me happy. They can 'nag' a lot as it seems it's our national trait. That we Polish are not friendly, not smiling as English people. Some of them don't manage to stay due to this mentality and return back to UK. I read these stories daily and then watching your vlog which is so positive make me less worried to go back. 🤗 The decision has been made and we are going to live in Gdańsk which is a new place for us all. Thanks for these positive vlogs and wish you all the best in my country. I hope me, my Dutch husband and my kids who have been brought up in the UK will share your positive view.
@HCforLife12 жыл бұрын
I moved back to Poland after 8 years of living abroad (UK). From my perspective, the Poles are less open and smiling than British. On the other hand, we are more open than Germans, especially to strangers. Anyway - I see a huge change in people's behavior. It is especially visible in younger generations. I would say there is a lot more openness than it has been a few years ago. My duty as a Pole is to respect others and just be this positive element of society. This is the only way to spread positive energy. Compared to the UK crime is on a lower level than in the UK, especially among youth. This should be a huge plus for your kids and family.
@HCforLife12 жыл бұрын
Also - Gdansk is a very "westernized" Polish city. You will be happy there for sure. I made many great friends back in the UK. And to be honest, after a while they seemed very similar to Polish people.

Polska empatia i współczucie jest wyjątkowe na świecie. To pewne. Byłem kiedyś po super imprezie. Rano miałem delirę, a lekarstwa żadnego. Resztkami sił ogarnąłem się i poszedłem do najbliższego marketu. Wziąłem połówkę i stanąłem w kolejce do kasy. Poty i trzęsiączka były widoczne dla stojących w długim ogonku. Ludzie sami z siebie z półironicznym, pół życzliwym uśmiechem zaczęli mnie przepuszczać i po chwili szczęśliwie dokonałem zakupu towaru "pierwszej potrzeby". Asian, Arabian and Greek cuisine, but all this was just our idea of what this cuisine is like, because we have never had contact with it. Enjoy your stay! Now concentrate on the baby-stuff! Little cloths, crib, baby-tub, stroller, etc...and enjoy your sleep as much as you can because it will be in the very short supply for the next 4-5 years! Believe me, I went thru it on more than a one occasion :)

I won't lie, you might be the first person I know that enjoys sirens from police/ambulances constantly droning in the background. I mean, it is a typical big city thing that we all learn to tune out (especially in the part of Ochota you still have to visit, there are 2 hospitals there + the one at Banacha st. has a helipad).. but also something you notice very much when going to a smaller city. The absence of noises you take "for granted" :D PS: about the neighbors - this is more common in smaller buildings, where there is a bit more tight-knit community. Happens a lot in Ochota, but this kind of community approach is specific to places where there are a lot of occupants that lived there for years. Unfortunately - a lot of places have a big % of flats for rent/AB&B and it is much harder for friendly communities to survive.

I’m happy to hear you’ve had only good experiences in Poland. Like everywhere you might come across nasty ppl also. Be careful!

You absolutely have to go to the observation deck of the Palace of Culture and Science together with Marina.

Be careful to not be overfed XD . There is a local named "Szynk Praski" on the Stalowa 37 street, Praga Północ. You should really try their "Schabowy" steak. It is a not too big pork-steak but it is delicious, with potatoes and fried cabbage add-ons. ;)
