Very informative. The whole block of building are probably owned by individual or corporate. Need a small garden courtyard and backyard parking. Those building maybe protected by city ruling , therefore no external renovation to the facade. The old building are probably build in the early 1920's , escaped destruction during ww2 battle in kiev by the germans and red army. - read the history of kiev and babyn yar. As per liveability - costly utility bills, Bathroom, kitchen, sewage, water supply and plumbing pipe, gas supplies can be an issue and costly renovation. Need a narrow strip of green streetscape or hedges to fence off wall from graffiti/privacy. Notice a block of stalin building is being demolish for a low rise new building which can accommodate modern living. Need a basement suits parking, storage, bombshelter, utilities pipeline, electrical control board, security camera control room. A duplicate of old 4 storeys building block for wealthy professional in NYC. High rise Residential building looking into a park would be desirable like those in manhattan park. CBD area's are exorbitant expensive because of business activities. Pandemic/ 911 has proven that living in city centre may not be desirable. They are only few key financial wall street / branded boutiques / restaurant/ time square in the world. Not possible in kiev. Don't like living in centre - noisy chaos, crowds , overhyped and pay through your nose. For foreigner and tourists, it's more of getting around without getting lost and moving out after a week.

Thanks for honest opinions about property investment and purchased. Buying property is not something we do regularly. Careful evaluation on its neighbourhood and property title ownership given the gray area on the rules of law as mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, sorry to hear that the war as upended the property purchase. Hope peace will return and improvement in its rules of law in the Democratisation process and independent. With best regards.

Ukraine situation is different becouse of two factors, too much tangled with Russia and massive corruption. Even now as war is happening and western countries send milions of dollars, the money doesnt reach the front, its robbed by politicians near the main table. Suddenly they have money to buy properties outside of ukraine, while soldiers on field eat rotten food. So yeah, corruption holds strong there even durring war times. So its a matter of mentality and proper use of resources, like in Poland each town gets money for modernizations, they must use that money to end of the year or they lose it and the ammount would be reduced for next year. So cities invest into infrastructure and constantly build new things.

Warsaw has a budget of over NPL 20 billion (this is huge money for Polish conditions), so there is enough money to build and maintain the entire infrastructure of this city... This money mainly comes from taxes generated by industry and services, and also comes from tourism, from subsidies from the state budget, and some of the projects are subsidized, but only in part (about NPL 400 million) by the EU. For curiosity's sake, I would like to add that Vitaliy Klitschko was once in Warsaw (at the beginning of his sports career). The person who accompanied him at the time (probably a Polish sports activist) wrote about it. They were riding somewhere in a taxi through the city, and Vitaly was surprised almost as much as Marina's mother at how nice and modern Warsaw looked. Apparently he even drank Coca-Cola for the first time in his life in Warsaw and that this first sip was not only very tasty for him, but also important because it reminded him of the West and freedom. I think that Vitaliy Klitschko would also know how to take care of Kyiv if there was no war in Ukraine. Unfortunately, the war changes the priorities of our activity. Glory to Ukraine!

Hello, James! I just stumbled onto your videos. Great work, especially how you go into details about everyday life in Poland and Warsaw. What's also important is that you have a very good understanding and personal experience living in many different coutries, so your comparisons of Poland to other lands is that much more credible and useful. There are many videos of people raving about their Polish experience but those are mostly based on a short tourit type visit. FYI... I was born in Warsaw and emigrated here (USA) as a kid with my parents. I liven in Anchorage, Alaska, Lincoln , Nebraska, Phoenix, Arizona, Chicago, Illinois (the longest) and Fort Myers, Florida. I've also had the opportunity to travel all over the US and internatonally. I'm retired (kind of) but plan on retiring for good this year and I plan on retiring in Poland!. My wife was born and raised in Chicago and my daugter (attending college) was also born in Chicago. Personally I cannot wait to move, however, my wife is more reserved and woried that she will feel isolated as she doesn't speak Polish. I watch your videos with her to ease her anxiety about living in this new strange land. Keep up the great work! P.S. I would like to establish contact with you if you don't mind. Let me know the best way to PM you.

11:39 James it doesn't depends from Klitchko it depends from general policy and economy , especialy from : healthy banking system and private properties , small bussineses and paying taxes honestly and of course EU subsidies .

I fast forwarded so this wouldn't appeared unwanted to me (I just do that with everything I've already watched on KZfaq) then paused - now I have a still frame of... balconies. I was invested. Now I wonder. And I'm invested in another family that seems to appreciate us in return. (Trying to track how long that has been. Started here.) I miss wandering the streets of Polish cities with James (it's different with Nynke). Will Nicole be 2 in a couple ofonths? How is Kitty whose name I could never spell?

For your information life in the UK was better when there was a Soviet Union. This migration has affected us all. 20/30 years ago, about the time of Afghan war things began to change. Afghan also changed life in Russia too. The system in USSR made people what they are today in these countries. People need some get up and go.

I wonder if they are still in Poland. Probably not or we would have seen another one of those every 3 month videos. I guess it's good I didn't get overly involved with anyone in the group? I still remember that fun day in Katowice. And we barely got to Krakow or Zakopane. There was so much more to see but I guess I will have to see it with Nynke. Last I saw she was in Wroclaw. I wouldn't be worried about her disappearing. She loves Poland so much. The family she worked for left and she stayed even though she didn't have a home or a job. And she's still there. I can never remember if she's the writing traveler or traveling writer But I think it's the first one.

You should see how Poland looked in the 90s. It was so much uglier and dirtier. This is what russian influence do to everything. Break free from them and you will se the difference soon.

What happened to this channel? It got tons of viewers and all of a sudden the videos stopped. It is a shame as I enjoyed these videos. Hope your family is safe. I too am interested if you are still living in Poland. Poland is really a great place. I think you would be happy there. I miss you talking about the balconies (lol) as well as videos regarding your family. Hope all is well. I assume you are looking to find a new ‘home’. If you are looking for an English speaking location you should go to Malta.
