Psychedelics might interact with the brain by turning off the brain’s default mode network and affecting a thin sheet of gray matter called the claustrum. This could shake up communication between different regions of the brain.

Hallucinogenic drugs-popularly called psychedelics-have been used by human societies for thousands of years. Today, scientists are taking a second look at many of these mind-altering substances-both natural and synthetic-and discovering that they can have profoundly positive clinical impacts, helping patients struggling with a range of afflictions from addiction to depression and PTSD.

“Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.” ― Terence McKenna

lsd melted all concepts, categories and barriers I had. I felt like a child, enjoying everything without a filter. Realizing that ANY line and any border w draw conceptually does not exists, changed my life forever. I am not judging this as good or bad - it was solely an experience. The worst thing we can do is NOT talk and forbid things by default, for everyone.

@homo-sapiens-dubium
@homo-sapiens-dubium Жыл бұрын
@@YazzaY1 it was neutral, 100% honest answer. the trip lasted 12h. I had hours where I was afraid. I was afraid to "get stuck". I realized everything we can "lean on" and feel comfortable with is "grown" over time. Good music, culture, social relations. Seeing stuff like that clear as day is intense! What you do with it and how you react to it is 100% personal. 50h of meditation helped me "accept" things and not "fight" them, I still "fought" many fears though, its HARD to let go on a trip, but sooo important!! If you cant let go a horror-trip gets much more likely! I had great periods where I felt rejuvenated and like a kid. All fights and conflicts I had with people were trivial to resolve. I realized "who is guilty" does not matter at all. All meaning is only what we attribute to things, its not inherit at all. I could go on for hours. the trip refreshed many things for me. many deep, bad habits were suddenly easy to not follow.e .g. eating junkfood etc. but: you have to be STABLE person. Only you can know if you are one or not. If you're shaky and fearful it can get ugly and really bad. I'd advice start with a SMALL dose and binge videos & experience reports on the topic. YOu will start developing a feeling how it might be for you & if you think you can handle it. Meditation and mindfullness is deemed the best preparation for it. But this takes TIME. Half a year daily meditation at least, 20min day is enough!! DONT skip this step, no matter what. The key is to be able to integrate the expierence to your life after it, otherwise its just a joyride and you're back to normal! Best!

I'll be forever grateful for psychedelics. They helped me "rewire" my brain. Long story short, I got Tourettes syndrome, not in my wildest dream did I thought it was possible to locate what triggers my tics and many reasons behind them. It was like I could use the overheating brain signals to send the tics outside my body and forcing the impulse in the brain to just stay there, almost cooking. But after a while, it was cooling of. Sounds very easy, takes incredible amount of willpower but LSD, somehow, helped me locate why many of my tics is there. Like went straight into my subconcious and saw it in a way that I didn't knew was possible. Psychedelics is really incredible.

I actually have some anecdotes from psilocybin and other psychedelics. When I use a psych i feel like i don't feel the need to smoke weed necessarily, even though i use weed as a psych, so i can vouch for the addiction thing since smoking opium and smoking weed are necessarily organic highs that are similar in many ways. I feel no need to quit weed. Now, ketamine and psilocybin are necessarily used for research and therapy and i can compare them both with heroin and weed for obvious reasons (one being some injected anesthesia, the other being an organic psychedelic). I necessarily have used DXM which is morphine-derived, and the experience is exactly comparable to all psilocybin-like drugs like LSD and DMT. This makes me wonder about how heroin addicts can use psilocybin/LSD/DMT to heal their addictions, yet DXM is a morphine that can directly replace a psychedelic. My first real experience with DXM was from a legal robocough at about 450 mg DXM Hbr; it felt no different than high quality LSD and whatnot. Alex Grey paintings remind me of DXM. It feels funny that i can use a different kind of morphine-based psychedelic transformation (Dextromethorphan) to get over dia-morphine addiction (Heroin). Theoretically, i can use Heroin (dia-morphine) in the same way that you use Ketamine or psilocybin for transformative reasons. In this way, i began to wonder why Heroin was and still is stigmatized in the way that it's been. Opium and psilocybin and cannabis have been natural medicines for a very long time.

I’ve been stuck in a crippling depression for 2 years due to my mom’s unexpected cancer diagnosis and sudden death. I’ve always struggled with depression since childhood, but this time around has been the worst I’ve experienced. Magic mushrooms saved my life. I was starting to feel suicidal so I decided I needed to “take a trip”. I literally felt my brain being rewired telling me that I don’t have to be sad ALL THE TIME. I cried so many tears, but I wasn’t sad, it just felt like a release. Afterwards I felt like 1000 lbs of stress and sadness were lifted off my shoulders. I felt happy and light hearted for the first time in so long. I feel like I have a new chance at life, I just couldn’t get there on my own.

If you’ve been depressed even since childhood, you very likely have had a longstanding nutritional deficiency or dysbiosis in your small or large intestine leading to neuroinflammation due to the immunomodulatory role and metabolites these micro-organisms produce. Your psychedelic experience is rather a bandaid for a deeper problem.

I had an abusive and alienating childhood, and a tough start with adulthood. When I look back, it seemed like my mind was so stuck in a dissociative and depressed state. I could not feel anything except for hollowness, constant misery, and unable to see future beyond it. In my very early twenties, I had a group of work friends who got together, half of whom were trying Psilocybin mushrooms for the first time. It wasn't a super-ultra-big dose or anything. It was a life-changing experience for me. It reminded me of what it felt to feel alive; to be amazed with life again. It made me feel human. I still struggle with depression and have help with it now, but I've been able to remember that it's possible to be another way because of psychedelics to get that help after too many lost years.

I am autistic and have aphantasia (didn't have a clue until 50), and had mushrooms in my late 30s. No crazy images, I don't see mental pictures. The 3rd time was so profound, I haven't felt the need for another experience with them. They were self-directed, spiritual experiences, (I felt I was immersed in white light and everything was one) and now, over 15 years later, I'm seeing how they've completely changed my world. "Trust yourself" are words that, for a person who didn't know they were masking, have been taking a long time to sink in. I didn't realize I would behave or act however it was that whoever it was I was closest to at the time wanted me to be. I am now able to live life authentically, keeping the few people who enjoy my weirdness (calling me "quirky" instead), and allowing those who don't like how I've changed to fall away. It has been life-altering, and freeing. 🕊️

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

I dropped acid for the first time 35 years ago. Had a great night, stayed up way too late and suffered the next day from lack of sleep. Totally worth it! Then for the next several weeks found a state of stoic peacefulness. The anxiety that had not been medically diagnosed in me until years later abated. I felt normal for the first time in years. Since then I have taken LSD or shrooms twenty or so times over the next decade with the same results. Do not get me wrong. I never did this " under the clinical supervision of a doctor" with the intent of fixing my brain. I did it to get high and have a great night. I never realized the unintended side effect of peace and tranquility until I read about the potential medical use for psychedelics years later.

Took LSD for the first time on Halloween decades ago. Had a friend who inked Vampirella comics and his entire house had full size characters on the walls. EVERYTHING was moving. Had a good chat with a bunch of characters. Never managed to get Vampirella's number. She flirted but that was it..... Took it twice. 2nd time a bunch of us went hiking down a river bed to climb a waterfall. It was 20,000 feet high but we made it to the top. LOL. You know that part in LOTRs where the trees came alive.. Yep. Had a nice long chat with them as well.... Changed my outlook on life to this very day. 2 OUTSTANDING trips for me but not for a few girls in our group. They had a REALLY bad trip. Decided to never take it again. Left it as an extremely enjoyable and memorable experience.

Psychedelics can help re wire. It has the capability but ultimately you are still the electrician and so you as an individual have to let this power flow while also directing it where to go. My first acid trip was, I think in '69 or '70. Went to see the movie "2001 Space Odyssey" at a drive in theater. I was peaking when the astronaut got that light show as he was zooming down to Mars or wherever the hell he went. Haven't come down yet. 🤪

I tried psychedelics for the first time in my 50's (mushrooms, LSD and 5MEO-DMT). For those who have never tried them, they can't possibly understand how profound the impact can be. It is like trying to describe color to a blind person. Insights from 5 years ago are still with me today. I have no fear of death and normal life stressors that used to grip me into depression don't have the same kind of hold on me. I am a better husband, father and person. These aren't drugs that need to be taken long term for lasting effects. One trip can be enough to break the ego's grip forever. I would caution younger people however to be careful. IMO these are not party drugs. They are more akin to medicine or even a sacrament. Something to be done a few times as an adult to reset the brain into a more functional state. Abusing them can have lasting negative effects on your life. Use them responsibly and they can radically improve your life.

Does anyone have experience with OCD and shrooms? For a months I have Existential OCD and its hard to survive literally. Unwanted thoughts about reality, what happens after we die, how can something be eternal like universe etc is killing me.

@godstimeOsai I never tried DMT, or MDMA. I rarely experience mushrooms now and have been that way for 25 years. Heavy doses of hallucinogens feel redundant and unnecessary. ........as cautionary tale, I had an acquaintance or two that existed in a uncomfortable state of whirling difficulties and stress adjusting to the before the duration and the after

I had an overeating disorder for years and I racked up some pretty good weigh because of it. Shrooms somewhat reset my brain and I didn't feel like eating much after. Lost 30 pounds in 6 months when I realised this and picked up the weights at the gym.

I did 7 grams of magic shrooms and it definitely did some rewiring/fixing connections. It was intense, don't do that alone. Be with a friend or friends you love. Have some nature nearby. Water and a place to lay down. My body felt like I needed to constantly stretch. My mind was playing scenes of my future life through my head. I recommend it if you have PTSD and brain damage like I do.

@@BlackCeII After my brain surgery, I developed epilepsy from the 21 Unit bleed that left rusting hemoglobin throughout. I was cautioned over using any kind of psychedelics as likely to INCREASE seizure activity. I feel myself stunted, but fear my lengthy seizures even more! The idea of micro-dosing is appealing, but still don’t want to risk it.
