I've noticed that rural people are way more into the red team/blue team thing. They'll support a losing high school football team their entire lives, where as people that attended school in a city could couldn't care less about their school's sports teams the day after they graduate.
@MMuraseofSandvichАй бұрын
Unfortunately, a lot of them really do peak in high school. That's not to insult them or anything, that's because of the circumstances they're in. They don't know any time that's been better because after you get your diploma, it's drudgery and back-breaking work or no prospects in a small town in the middle of nowhere with an opioid crisis. On the other hand, city slickers are more likely to become college graduates and move on to arguably more fulfilling careers and are exposed to a greater diversity of cultures, and they understand that high school life with its social hierarchy was way overrated. Even in the 'burbs with just a diploma I have had way more opportunities than the heartland, and that's a crying shame.
@rgemailАй бұрын
It's a lot to do with the whole culture of rural existence. Small communities where ostracization for saying the "wrong" thing is a serious worry. They've warped that (once-wholesome.. ..maybe) back-slapping insulated church culture of performative mass agreement into an insane funhouse built on fear of the other. Every joke is a grade-school level putdown of "the other side" and there is no world in which anyone can disagree with anything, lest they be labeled "WOKE".

Same-sex marriage was legalized. People overcomplicate this and many who have never been a part of fundamentalism simply don't understand how big of a deal the legalization of same-sex marriage in all 50 states was for most evangelical Christians. It has nothing to do with economics. It was Obergefell that was the red line for most Southern conservatives. That was the moment they decided they could no longer support democracy if democracy meant the people they believe their deity despises the most were going to have rights. They didn't try to overthrow the government after Obama was re-elected in 2012. Prior to June 26, 2015, the idea of a fundamentalist Christian coup and dictatorship in this country was unthinkable. Trump happened to be the right strongman in the right place at the right time.
@ajs11201Ай бұрын
I agree in part. Obergefell may have been a factor in their equation. However, I think the bigger factor was and still is the racism. If you listen to Trump's messaging, he hates minorities, especially people of color. That's a strong incentive for the ultra-conservative crowd. That border wall was a huge motivator because to them it signaled fewer brown-skinned people entering the country.

brothers Otto & Gregor Strasser did much to grow the party by tying Hitler’s racist nationalism to socialist rhetoric that appealed to the suffering lower middle classes. In doing so, the Strassers also succeeded in expanding the Nazi reach beyond its traditional Bavarian base. By the late 1920s, however, with the German economy in free fall, Hitler had enlisted support from wealthy industrialists who sought to pursue avowedly anti-socialist policies. Otto Strasser soon recognized that the Nazis were neither a party of socialists nor a party of workers, and in 1930 he broke away to form the anti-capitalist Schwarze Front (Black Front). Gregor remained the head of the left wing of the Nazi Party, but the lot for the ideological soul of the party had been cast. Hitler allied himself with leaders of German conservative and nationalist movements, and in January 1933 German President Paul von Hindenburg appointed him chancellor. Hitler’s Third Reich had been born, and it was entirely fascist in character. Within two months Hitler achieved full dictatorial power through the Enabling Act. In April 1933 communists, socialists, democrats, and Jews were purged from the German civil service, and trade unions were outlawed the following month. That July Hitler banned all political parties other than his own, and prominent members of the German Communist Party and the Social Democratic Party were arrested and imprisoned in concentration camps. Lest there be any remaining questions about the political character of the Nazi revolution, Hitler ordered the murder of Gregor Strasser, an act that was carried out on June 30, 1934, during the Night of the Long Knives. Any remaining traces of socialist thought in the Nazi Party had been extinguished. Trump idolizes Dictators like Hitler, Kim Jong-un and Putin a man who murdered women and children in Schools and in Hospitals Trump even has a copy of Mein Kamph on his nightstand according to his ex-wife who He felt needed to be buried on His golf course for a tax dodge loophole matter of fact I still wonder if she was cremated then why did take ten men to lift Her casket must be some documents hidden in that casket that Trump didn't want people knowing about or getting to why were the folders empty and why did he invite the Saudi's at a golf tournament or why did Jared Kushner receive 2 billion from the Saudi's; Nazi's didn't just stop with persecution of Jews they also came after LGBTQ, Jehovah's witnesses, Disabled, Elderly, Gypsies, Muslims, & those who they deemed lower or less inferior to themselves.

It's racism....just racism. Don't try to church it up Dirté.....it's just because he has said the racist shit they have been saying/thinking for 50+ years. Nothing more and nothing less. I know this because it is the only driving force for why my family loves him, because when you ask them to explain it they say "his policies and stuff...." How they can't really describe it....what they've figured out is that they can't say it on TV because the internet will find them and ruin their miserable little lives.

I agree 100%. I live in a rural area and I have seen that, too. There are some folks that do not like Trump though because he is not the caliber of person who should be the president of the United States. Doesn’t mean they ain’t racist, just not drooling racists. Ya’all have a good day.

He has legitimized marginals, hate groups, and whackos giving them a voice they never had. In the past political leaders in both parties had enough integrity to keep hands off or they risked political death. What I can’t get is how his people who don’t fall into those categories and have the intelligence to know what Trump really is are supporting him.

I know this question! Been asking it since Reagan. The mostly rural poor, sheltered, male, white, dateless, bitter Brandons became right wing gop'ers? THEY HATE THE SAME FOLKS THE GOP DO! Its that simple... As a man who lived in N. Ill most of my life in a big town,,, but lived in rural Wis, Joplin Mo and VERY rural S. Ky? I kinda saw this...In rural Ky? I was asked? 'Where are you from'? Fine..I said? '90 miles NW of Chicago' .. They said? 'oh by all those blacks on gov handouts'. Guess what they were all on? The same gov handouts! Now hows that for hypocrisy? My head wanted to explode..The county 2 over from where I lived in Ky? Had the HIGHEST gov freebies per than any place in murika! Oswald county..95% white...90% of them on gov handouts!

He also picked the right party to run in,because it’s all about abortion to a lot of Christians. The Democrats are “for” abortion, Don’t ya know. People would rather have a dictator than a choice. There’s no other choice than to vote blue, and I am a Christian who doesn’t like abortion, but I still think it’s up to the individual and not the government. I’m soooosick of trump and his maga’s!
