Hailing from Celina Tennessee, Trae Crowder is a standup comedian, writer, and self-proclaimed “Liberal Redneck.” Trae gained national attention (or notoriety, depending on your viewpoint) with his viral video rants and has been performing and touring his particular brand of Southern-fried intellectual comedy for over a decade.

Trae addresses the question of “What Could Possibly Go Right?” through his socially aware comedic view, sharing thoughts including:
-That there’s inexorable positive progress in social issues over time, despite setbacks in the short-term.
-That each new generation makes advancements in social awareness; for today’s young people, “the default position seems to be one of wokeness.”
-That in spite of stereotypes, “in any given state, 40 something percent of people voted blue, but the state still shows up red on a map.”
-That when considering issues such as racism, wider USA needs to avoid “using the South as a scapegoat, and in doing so, act like they don't have those problems where they live.”
-That we could all use more empathy to understand others’ perspectives and experiences in our day-to-day lives.

Thanks. Love Trae. I’m an 86 yr.old white woman who grew up with all the prejudices absorbed in my native Alabama. Now, I’m a rabid liberal/progressive agnostic. So, at least I know that people can change for the better. Love the juxtaposition of an older NY Jewish female with young southern male-yet such unity and compatibility.

As a progressive in Alabama, I can assure you progressives and liberals do exist in the south. You would never know it, though, because republican politicians have managed to gerrymander our voting power almost out of existence.

Let's examine the disaster which the progressive agenda has given us with Joe Biden as "president" - The very worst of everything in 50 years. Did I say 50 years? More like the very worst of everything in at least 75 years. Plus they think the only way to solve a problem is by spending tax money, so of course that's what Biden is doing - with no good results. Biden has give us the worst of everything - increase in crime, no support for law enforcement, a shitty economy, more illegal immigration. My God - the list of crimes against America is miles long with those idiot Democrats.

Not just in the south, look at Ohio voting recently, we look like a deep south state because we are so gerrymandered, and it's almost comical because the people want something done about it, but they can't change it because surprise surprise the state legislature is Republican so they find a way to smash every vote or attempt at change, it's one of these things where you just ask yourself how is this possible in America

That totally sucks! I dream of a future America where every vote counts, where we have a national popular vote. One person = one vote!!

Vote, and teach your children the importance of voting. The only way to overcome, the only tool we have is to vote. The minority is often loud and obnoxious, even they know their time is at end.

Honestly, if not for America’s comedians, republicans would win a lot more often, including the Presidency. But there’s something about comedy that explains things really well… basically, they point out the absurdity of most of what republicans are selling.

I loved every minute of this show and found the dialogue very helpful. I actually feel better! I am a major Trae Crowder fan, and listening to his explanation of how it would be more helpful to not assume the other person is at the extreme end of whatever, is so right on point! And we do all do that! I do it all the time and that’s no good! And I get pissed when someone does it to me just like Trae said. I love to listen to Trae. He is talented, funny, a gifted speaker , and a genuine lovable human being 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✊🏾✊🏽✊💖💕❤️

Trae is a good dude and a kindred spirit. And, thankfully, I'm certain that he's right about the youth in this nation. They're not going to let the regrettable blight of bigotry stand. They're like the best of we older Americans but there are far more of them coming from, as Trae said, a default position of honor and integrity that we longed for in our older generations. I'm happy that my children will experience a far more inclusive, just society. I'm even envious and jealous to a degree because I respect them as a whole very much. In 60s CSN&y parlance ( which is far before even my time lol) They're gonna let their freak flags fly! And that's a wonderful thing.

I totally agree with Trae. The future is going to be fine and we are neck-deep in evidence of it. A current example is how well "Barbie" is doing in Florida, where "Woke Goes To Die." The question, to me, is, "Will the future be fine in my lifetime? While I'm still here to enjoy it?" That part, I'm not so sure about.

I am late on seeing this, but here goes. I live in East Tennessee. My family has been here in this same place since after the Revolutionary War. Home was a Revolutionary War pension. I have great grandfathers, greatx2 grandfathers, & 3x great grandfathers that fought in the Civil War for the Confederates (it's on their tombstones). I also have a maternal & paternal great grandmother that were Cherokee. Nonetheless, I am a life long liberal, registered Democrat. My parents (dad was WW2 vet) were life long Democrats. The paternal grandparents of my children were life long Democrats. My sons' paternal grandparents were from Georgia & Florida. My daughter's were from East Tennessee. I don't where Tennessee went complete wrong. My paternal great grandparents & grandparents were very progressive. Not one of their daughters were raised to think they couldn't accomplish anything they wanted. My father raised me likewise & I did go to college on a academic scholarship. Somewhere in there, intelligence became a bad word to so many people, & not just in the south.

I was prepared to dislike this talk when I saw the title which suggested some sort of Steven Pinker-esque nonsense, but I enjoyed it and I wanted to offer a few hopefully constructive comments. I'm from rural Kentucky and stayed there--with a few excursions into the world--until I moved to New York City full-time in 2010. I also have some years on you being in my fifties. I'm a visual artist and a published writer as well as an activist, to give you a bit of my perspective. In certain ways, I think the rural south and Central Appalachia have definitely improved, in particular, regarding race and sexual orientation. But I strongly disagree that this is an inexorable trend. I was part of a talk the other night on labor, here in New York, and the other participants were discussing gains workers have made since 2020 and the push to destroy those gains by the Wall Street-Washington group. I mentioned that, while that group is clearly trying to prevent any increase in worker's power, I'm stunned by the amount of widespread anger I'm seeing from everyone, including (and perhaps specifically) people back in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. That anger isn't class consciousness, but it's a pre-condition to a defined political awareness. And I see an attempt to pilot that anger toward illegitimate targets such as immigrants, nonbinary people, black Americans, and even Jews. While I'm doing everything I can to direct that anger to it's legitimate source, I don't believe the landing spot is a foregone conclusion.

Glad to see your reference to Pinker. In his latest book, he excoriates critical race theory. I mean, any pretense he may have to Enlightenment ideals is ripped open in that one paragraph to reveal the moral bankruptcy of his status-quo-worship. As to the outcome of our current situation, Trae is making the argument for the moral arc of the universe bending toward justice, which I think is real but which has no predefined timeline. Everything we do to assist that arc shortens the timeline. And, we have the example of Germany to understand that even apocalyptic evil will fall-- the "third reich" was quite short-lived. Not a pollyanna here, but I do have faith in our younger generations, who are themselves keeping the faith. The youngers really are different. And because the USA never properly addressed its central evil of slavery, there will be a reckoning. Today's white supremacists are in their dying gasps, even if it doesnt feel that way. Having done hospice work as a doula for the dying, I know for a fact that last gasps can be frightening, even haunting, in their intensity.

What ya' gotta' do, Trae and company, is keep talking. These GOPs have no intention to ask the critical questions; does all men are created equal really mean "all mankind is created equal"? Do we need to hurt those who we don't recognize as like us? Is the trajectory of time and history bent in the direction of justice? Is it worth it? I hate to say this, because it is a very big doubt among Christians, but God does not wish pain upon anyone, and the end of the world doesn't mean the end of anybody. These folks have been praying for pain and ending for too long . STOP already.

I worked in a community mental health agency in Seattle, WA. They were uber proud of being inclusive. In fact the agency motto stated "All Are Welcome". Numerous staff meetings were peppered with hate speech about the South or southerners, just randomly thrown in. No one ever saw the hypocrisy in what they were saying. There were southerners, including myself, in the staff. I eventually mentioned that I was born and raised in the South. Nothing was said at that time. Later on, I was accused of being a racist. There was no incident anyone could point to or statement made that would indicate that I was a racist. One work group confronted me on the "issue" and said that everyone was a racist and I needed to admit it. I am not a racist and never have been. I'm offended by racism and would never say such a thing to meet the twisted needs of others. I was terminated.
