9 months ago we purchased a 2007 Toyota Sequoia 4x4 SR5 with about 225,000 miles on it with the expectation that it would prove to be a reliable companion despite the incredibly high miles. It has not disappointed us and has proved to be a loyal overland vehicle for many road trips and camping trips.

I just changed the plugs, front rotors and pads, I cleaned MAF sensor yesterday. Now powerful than before. Picked up a 2005 Black Limited Sequoia at an auction that was donated through Goodwill. It has 220,000 currently got it for $1,500 (lucky) took it to get new Michelin Tires then to the Dealership (Stealership) to get the Timing Belt, water pump, belt tensioner, serpentine belt and idler pulley. Asked the dealership if it had any records and turns out it had 92 pages of documented maintenance and 1 owner! I'm currently on the same path in turning ours into an Overland Vehicle. Good luck with yours and new adventures. Don't go searching for the Monolith haha

My 2007 V8 4Runner has 506,000 miles on it (I was a catastrophe insurance adjuster so those miles are a lot of city driving in the south during the summer and that doesn't include countless hours idling in insured's driveways while writing up claims). I bought it new in 2006 and it's been paid off for over ten years. No rust no leaks. In my experience, there are a handful of things that help a vehicle last a long time. 1. start with good engineering. Compared to the new Ford and Dodge trucks I've owned, the 4Runner doesn't have weird rattles after 12,000 miles. Still doesn't rattle. 2. always always always keep up with routine maintenance - If it's time to replace the water pump, etc... just do it. 3. learn what components will typically go out and replace those early as preventative maintenance - aka like the radiator before it becomes a problem. 4. drive like my grandma - don't speed, accelerate fast, or brake hard (unless you must). Offroad driving isn't kind to any vehicle either (sure is fun tho). Treat this thing like it's new, even when it's not. I think a lot of vehicles besides Toyotas can last a long time if they're taken care of. There's a conventional wisdom out there that high mileage vehicles are junk.. there's certainly truth to that. But I was somebody who always bought a brand new vehicle every two years before this 4Runner and I can tell you that even though I've had to replace expensive things like the AC system a couple of years ago, I've saved tens of thousands of dollars over the years in car payments and finance charges by just taking care of a paid off vehicle. All that money I'm saving will one day get me an electric self-driving flying Land Cruiser.

I’ve had other “fancy” cars...Mercedes, Maserati, Range and I always seem to go for the key to the Sequoia. Never had any problems. Finally, I stopped being ridiculous with multiple cars (I’m only one person & really only need one vehicle) now it’s just the Sequoia for me and I have no regrets at all. 😍 Wishing you both the best. 💝

I just got one with 240k. It was beaten on, but is still a great vehicle. All components of the rear hatch are toast. The power lock actuator had broke in the locked position, the cable was seized, and the handle was broken! Really all from a simple lack of lubrication. It will need upstream O2 sensors due to the heating elements failing. But it runs like new and drives great. I got mine cheap and plan to bring its condition up to a higher level. I plan on keeping this one for a long while. FYI, my sunroof worked, but was slow. I opened it and put white lithium grease on the track and it was twice as fast. If your drivers window is slower than the others, lube the track with the same and you will save the motor. In fact, lube them all. Especially lube the hatch window tracks. The handles are a common failure point, and if your window stops working too it will be a huge headache. These things are built like a tank. Enjoy

mine has 245k on it. Bought it with 138K from a used car lot. We went to look and i saw it in the back covered in dust (hadn't even been placed on the lot yet) Your video is accurate as far as parts needing replaced at our mileage. I will be replacing the whole exhaust system ( i needed a new o2 sensoand the stock exhaust is pretty rusty) I replaced the radiator as well as the stock one finally cracked. I will also be replacing the two front axles and both upper and lower ball joints (due to mileage. Currently runs fine). I charged the ac system once, replaced my valve cover gaskets. I also need to replace the timing belt. I also replaced the rear latch handle and locking system and the front driver side door locking mechanism and new cable. Other than the usual maintenance stuff, our vehicles are super solid and very underrated! throughout the seasons other than winter, i scrub out the engine on a regular basis with simple green and brushes from dollar tree (best place i have found for engine cleaning supplies) I also sprayed the bottom of the vehicle with a rust preventer and i also scrub out all of the suspension components. Trying to get mine to 500k miles!! Currently 04 with a 3 inch lift and i have the same wheels coming that i commented on in one of your videos (Fuel AMMO 17x9 with a -12 offset) i also run the spidertraxx wheels spacers (1.25 inch) and i use BFG KO2's. I am also a fan of 1st genoffroad that you mentioned in a previous video. I had it in a shop ONCE and the manager was underneath the car for w/e reason (later found out why, the tech ha called him over) he comes over to me and asked me if i had dropped a new motor in it and i said, "no" then he asked me, "how in the hell do you keep everything so clean with that amount of miles on it?" I told him i bought it with 138K and just take care of it.

Just bought my 02 sequoia and I also have the same experience of the sunroof not operating, it tries to pop it up on the left button but doesn't, and the retract button doesn't do anything. Only problems I have with it are as follows: mold inside due to it sitting for awhile in our lovely oregon environment, front brakes need to be done, driver's side rear door doesn't fully unlock unless you do it manually (might be as simple as a bushing needing tweaked), cracked windshield, and a o2 sensor needs a look at because it comes up o2 sensor heater error on the obd check. Overall it is very strong, get the same fuel mileage as my Jeep liberty that the yota is replacing for my main rig, and is very roomy (very limited room in the Jeep, a buddies dad agrees with the lack of space in the liberties as they have one as well). Getting the brakes sorted out this weekend, putting on studded snow tires as well, getting it detailed on the interior next Tuesday, and over all for what I paid for it I have something that will last another 750k+ miles (has 260k right now).

My brother had a 2002 Toyota Sequoia 4x4. The big two issues he had with it was the engine computer, and it was replaced by the dealer for free under warranty. The second issue was with transmission after 120K miles. It was replaced by AAMCO, but I believed he was ripped off. My brother is terrible at vehicle maintenance, and it likely only needed a complete service. We used his Sequoia for hunting and camping. He traded it in to buy 4Runner.

My sequoia at around 230000 had the o2 sensor front left code as well. I just changed my timing belt. I had to spend about 800 for the job. The shop in California wanted to charge me 500 for non oem parts. I got my oem parts online for 250. Ended up paying 600 for labor.

I also live in Planet Utah, purchased my 05 Sequoia a few months ago with 122k. It's in excellent condition but these rigs are so popular the price is rather steep nowadays. Paid 12k Yikes. We took in on a 2500 mile road trip and it performed flawless, averaging 14.6 mph, bout the same as my suburban. Looking forward to doing some over landing. Cheers

My '02 has 315k miles and has one squeak from the sunroof when it's open. Everything works. Unleaded Anonymous meetings are the only penalty owning this rig. Little things go bad, but they are easy to fix. Mostly just age and maintenance items. Mine was smoke + dog. Took me three days to vacuum it.

My 2001 Sequoia has 186,000 miles. Replaced the transmission at 100,000 miles along with a radiator. It runs well, like a new vehicle. My only complaint is the gas mileage. I can barely do 14 miles in the city. Tried new spark plugs, filters, fuel injection cleaners to no avail. Still, we love it and it has sentimental value to us cause my young adult kids were babies when we first got it.

Surprised to hear about the trans getting replaced so early but glad it has served you well. Mpg isn’t great but honestly it’s no worse than other full size trucks and suvs (f-150, suburban, etc.)

They bolt up under the hood using the first two bolts that hold the hood on. If you watch any video about 4Runner ditch light installation, it’s exactly the same thing I did with mine except that I made my own brackets.

I have an 04 Limited with 270,000 miles on it. I’ve upgraded the brakes to slotted/drilled/zinc plated rotors and upgraded pads, installed stainless lines, new calipers and master cylinder. Replaced the stereo with a touchscreen Apple CarPlay unit with backup camera. Replaced the amplifier and all speakers and added a 12 inch subwoofer. Had a split bumper cover repaired and the bodywork taken care of. Fresh factory dark green paint added. Installed new satin bronze aftermarket wheels and new Michelin tires, and converted all the interior/exterior lights to LED. It runs GREAT and I absolutely love it !!! The only thing it doesn’t do well is pass a gas station 🤣 I drive fairly average but tend towards aggressive with braking and acceleration. I’m religious about maintenance and use Amsoil full synthetic oil. The only unscheduled failure I’ve had through all these years and miles is the battery. They’ll be prying the keys to my “LandCrab” out of my cold dead hands !!!!

Had a great 05 sequoia until it met its demise on a snowy Minnesota interstate with 8 other cars. Bought used with 120 k and put on another 80k in 5 years. Other than routine maintenance Only had issues with the rear window travel. Sequoia blogs had a lot of talk about the rear window failure. Other than the wreck would have driven that car till it dropped.

Last September I scored an 06 2WD model with 164k miles from the sunbelt (I live in the rust belt). Unfortunately I don't have much repair history on it but it shows definite signs of it being well-cared for. Nevertheless, not knowing if the timing belt was ever done, I will do that or have it done. Oddly enough, I discovered a coolant leak last Fall seemingly coming from the back of the block which I understand is common. My research shows that to fix it requires removal of the intake manifold to replace an O-Ring on a hard coolant line that runs to the back of the water pump. So while I'm in there, I may just go ahead and also replace the starter as the starter is located under the intake. Interesting design.
