Make sure your pipes are PVC if you use this method. If they are PEX pipes (used in many newer homes), you will need a stop valve instead of the PVC cement. The cement doesn't work on PEX.

Good instructional video for removal of the Accor push/pull valves and installation of the newer (safer) metal twist valves. However, at 3:40 in your video you incorrectly stated that pulling on the Aacor push/pull valve knob opens the valve, and pushing it in closes it. This is incorrect as when you pull it out, the valve shuts off. Pushing it in opens the valve. The valve operation is backwards from how you stated it.

Method A has teeth mark, but after adding new valve with pvc cement... Does this negate the teeth marks because the cemet "fills" in the gap from teeth mark??? I ask because I don't have a saw to cut and wondering what is the negative of the teeth marks. Thanks in advance for anybody's response.

I’m sure someone will call me a moron, this is the internet, but as a plumber I’d say it’s fine. The glue should fill any imperfections. It is a solvent cement bond after all, it works by melting the two together and solidifying. If it’s PEX and you’re expanding it, which it doesn’t sound like is your case but was mine today, as long and the teeth marks don’t go too deep it seems fine too. The ones I took off didn’t really make much of a mark, and I could hardly feel the teeth marks. I’d say that means they don’t grip too hard!

Just wondering about that REALLY short value you glued on. Won't that cause some issues later on down road if that valve fails? Wouldn't a sharkbite be a better choice for future repairs?
@DIYPlumbingGuy
@DIYPlumbingGuy Жыл бұрын
It’s a good question. Generally the “glued on” valve has a lesser chance of a leak. However, it is not replaceable like Sharkbites. Personally, I prefer to have to cut off a faulty valve, gluing a new one, over using sharkbite ones. But either is a solution to these horrific plastic valves. Thanks a ton for watching and commenting. 👍👍👍

Another thing is sharkbites tend to blow off if you’re plumbing freezes. It less likely for a glued fitting to blow off. Any pipe can burst though.
