I know that this topic, like most geopolitics topics, has more potential than most to be contentious so I think it's extra important for you to know where the information comes from. Nothing said in this video is new and you can find all the sources at this link: goo.gl/5KDmvB Normally the sources go the description but there were too many this time to fit. One small note, at 11:14 it seems like some of the footage we used was mislabeled so these two clips are not actually of Rwanda. My apologies for that slip-up. As a policy, if there's anything more that I feel needs correcting or clarifying I'll update this top comment to include it.

There's a HUGE aspect that you missed in this video: abandoning French. France has always been in the way of African development, and has weaponised the French language to enforce its interests. By no longer using French and switching to English, Rwanda was able to integrate into the global economy, which paved the way for its later successes.

What I know about Rwanda now: - the sad historic events at 1994. - it is one of the cleanest and safest African countries. - the nature in Rwanda is breathtaking. - Rwanda has the best coffee and masala tea.😀 I wish all the Rwandans bright future. Rwanda's also the place where they manufacture Africa's first smartphone: Mara Phones and they also manufacture motorcycles. This is what I hope the future will be in Africa, instead of just being a source of raw materials for Europe, America and China, they'll do their own manufacturing and trade with each other, similar to the EU. I really hope that Rwanda and other African nations can achieve their goal of reaching wealth and prosperity.

I had to respond to your positive print. Do you think South Africa, DRC, Zambia, Swaziland etc stand a chance of ever processing their mineral resources in Africa minding the fact that these companies are owned by Anglo-American and French Companies? And the White people in these countries don't seem to like the idea of Afrika being self sufficient especially those in South Africa. Why? Because they distaste most or everything the EFF stands for which embodies such beliefs. They seem to enjoy the West taking raw material and bringing it back as expensive and unaffordable to The African. Such moves like one currency bolster a continent's economic strength. Why are African states reluctant to unite. They're all a jealous lot, thieves as has been seen. The Swazi King for instance is mining gold and diamonds for himself in the guise of understudying and selling to overseas countries. He also mined Iron Ore to sell to Japan. I can't say about DRC, France is looting the gold and diamonds there while supplying guns to rebels. If Afrika could unite, but then it won't coz we are a greedy, jealous', murderers, conniving filthy people. I congratulate Paul Kagame for being a true African Hero. Swaziland could have easily attained this status if the king had a vision, but look what he's doing now, destroying what his father left and doning $6m wrist watches while some of our relatives still dig dry riverbeds for water to appear, wait for it to clear up then put in their buckets, him and his children as can be seen on Instagram. All this taken from the country's state owned companies started by his late father by taking cows from every homestead. What nonsense is this! We're only 1,3m citizens including those working overseas. Roads are not tarred, tenders flouted for his gain, his kids given top govt positions illeterate as they are, siphoning of state funds left and right. Sometimes i wish i was born in Rwanda you know. African Leaders are deplorable, unprincipled self enriching pigs 🐷🐖

Gaddafi tried doing that. He had this ideology of creating a united Africa, within which African countries could help build each other, trade, and thrive. But again, westerners being themselves, what did they do? They portrayed him as the enemy, created false stories about him, and then got him killed, because they knew that they'd suffer if a united Africa was created. Africa has all the resources we are just dumbfounded by the elite Westerners to think that they are the only ones that can turn the raw materials we have into guns, smartphones, etc.

I lived there for 3 years. It is growing that fast it’s not a lie. They are developing the country side as well. Most of the complaints mentioned in this video have only limited validity. For example, it is correct begging is not tolerated. They pick up young men on the street who do not work and send them to an island where they are educated in a trade and taught to be disciplined. I wish we could do that in America. Rwandans are proud of their country and the changes that are happening are real. Even walking on the lawn in Kigali will get you corrected by someone. @kurtisdennison6816
@kurtisdennison6816 4 жыл бұрын
@@thalesfreitas1361 Its called Umuganda. It is required, and it may have started out of fear, but it was created to cause unity in a country divided. Many people actually do it today and enjoy Umuganda, but many people dont participate. Its required by law, but the punishment is just a fine and its usually really relaxed whether or not you actually get the fine. I suppose I could compare it like wearing your seatbelt (?), but really, that can cause even more fear than of participating in Umuganda. Part of the reason that people do it is almost self serving; if people help one neighbor build an irrigation system, then likely, they will be able to have help when they need to do something else. There are meetings at the end of the event where people discuss community issues, plan projects, and talk about town issues. It still brings towns together.
@kurtisdennison6816

Its quite genius really. Not having the financial resources to support small community infrastructure, like taxes, Umuganda fills in the gaps by building roads and infrastructure through voluntary. In that sense, all Rwandans are part of the building of their country.

@skychaos87
@skychaos87 5 жыл бұрын
@earaza Same with democracy, people can continue voting for poor governance over and over again. Its usually a spiral like what has happened in most democratic countries. For the record, there has never been a country that become democratic before the completion of industrialization and modernization. Democracy is the result of prosperity, not the cause of it. This follows the theory of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Enlightened democracy is of higher needs that can only be achieve and sustained when basic needs are secured, not the other way around. When basic needs are not secured, democracy can degrade to populism or hijacked by plutocracy, which is what has happened in America. h3ckNo I don't think democracy means political stability. There are arguments that democracy brings political divide where parties rally to bring each other down, politicians fighting each other(literally). Autocratic countries usually are politically stable as there are no challenge to the rule. The only time it can be politically unstable is when there is a revolution. Then again, political stability does not guarantee good governance. I say good governance is the most important regardless of the ideology. Don't settle for a particular model based on ideological preference, its why many 3rd world countries remained poor even after become democratic and also why democracy in big countries like USA is also failing. The best way is to assess, analyse and calculate the advantage and disadvantage of all available governing models and try to come up with your own model that suits the circumstance for your country. For example, Singapore's policies may not have worked if the country was located in an unaccessable isolated location or if its people were of difference race and culture. Again, its not about downplaying or supporting a particular governing ideology. Its about achieving good governance.

@@skychaos87 America was a third world country that failed to elect a leader and was going into spiralling debt that was like a thousand times more than its GDP. It then elected a leader and a new treasurer named Alexander Hamilton kicked the debts ass for those 8 years. America spiraled a bit harder in the 1800s albeit due to a major divide in which the civil war happened. As time progressed, politics became stabled, the country industrialized, and in the mid 1800s it finally modernized. It was not at all politically stable in fact many states had a couple thousand people, wisconsin had 250 people for a year straight. When WWII happened America finally became what we know it now, and let me tell you despite the times I've been assaulted for being conservative it's quickly becoming much much less polarized meaning this political instability might come to a close soon. America isn't failing nor are many big countries, most are succeeding. Russia is a case in which democracy got hijacked, Putin has been a leader for such a long time despite less and less people liking him by the day, yet somehow he is still president.

I watched a documentary on how they rehabilitate prisoners, especially those arrested for drug use, particularly addicts. They monitor them closely and work hard on getting those addicted off of drugs . instead of just throwing them into regular prison for awhile, and them throwing them back on the street. I think that this can go a long way to change a country, and if Rwanda is following their example, that maybe part of the success. Now, we just need someone to get us off our electronic addiction !

Nero ok that’s not even close to being slightly scientifically accurate. So far the leading theory as to why the worlds leading countries are further north in colder climates is because those societies were forced to work together by necessity. It warmer climates there tends to be an abundance of food and other things that makes life a bit more easy. In colder climates people had to pull together and work together for the benefit of society as a whole, they had build things to find food ect. However, it’s a flawed theory in and of itself, because the most advanced societies of the past were never the Nordic countries, Egypt, Persia, Greece ect, were all the most advanced civilisations on earth for a long long time, and they are bloody hot countries. I’m doing a degree in history, so, I’m not talking out my arse.

Please do an update video, Rwanda has made so many improvements since 2019. They are not leaving the poor behind as suggested here. Kagame's government is building modern villages for low-income/unemployed citizens for free. The houses have all the basic necessities; water, electricity, proper sewer systems and schools, hospitals, shops, communal halls can be found in each village. They are working really hard to create employment opportunities for those in urban areas and agricultural projects for those in rural. I go to Rwanda, specifically Kigali a lot, and it really does feel like an authoritarian, police state where you are constantly being surveilled. Honestly though, I feel so much safer there than I do in Uganda where I live or Kenya where I sometimes go as well. That kind of feeling of safety, stability security means so much when you're talking about economic development - westerners and outside firms value these indicators so much more in a developing country than levels of social freedom and creativity

Here as everywhere, you just do not understand about it. What is single-use plastics? It is defined by thickness. So the plastic spoons, forks knives and bags are made a little bit thicker and then those are allowed again. You just make 51 microns plastic bag and it is allowed. So if you ban single-use plastics, it even can make the problem bigger because the person who throw bag to nature, will throw the thicker bag too. The real problem is not the plastic itself but problem is that people do trow the plastics to nature and that the waste collection/handling system do not work. Not even single plastic piece do not find it's way to nature if somebody do not throw it there!!! Best way is: 1) give fines if trashing 2) develop good recycling system 3) give advantages (tax etc) for nature friendly products 4) education 5) invest to research of recycling and development of new better materials

Rwanda and Singapore share a lot of similarity. Most important among all is that they are surrounded by rich but corrupted country. Corrupted politician and military general all save their money in Rwanda and Singapore. All of this possible because they are the most politically stable country in their region. Rwanda has Kagame and Singapore has Lee Kuan Yew. Democracy is overrated. Behind the success story of a third world country, there will always be a dictator. Political stability is the most important factor of all. You can see this by looking at India and Indonesia. They are one of the richest country in the continent in term of natural resources and located very strategically at the centre of the globe but they are not at the top.

There is not enough money in the world to attempt to improve a poor country’s living standards by simply create social welfare programs, or attempt to redistribute wealth to individuals directly in some fashion, and expect that to have a lasting effect. The sincere, and corruption-free (as is reasonably possible) plan to improve infrastructure, with the money and support of a strong central government, is the only path to legitimate, long-lasting improvement.

@@Albanez39 Well you have an eagle eye. And I'm impressed that the makers of the video would catch their mistake at all. @@stonew1927 As a film student and freelance videographer, I've also had the chance to watch friends while they work on animations. Wendover probably only noticed the mistake at the very end of it, after editing in the voice-over, the music, trimming it to perfect length...at that moment, he could only add a new animation on top of the previous one. And if you watch that part closely, the blurred box is not consistent with the flag underneath. There was also some time constraint + all these little things just made him correct it in a fast and simple way instead of releasing it late and facing who knows how many other sync issues or crashes or whatever In the end, just a few people will ever notice it, and fewer people will become curious about why it's blurred out :P

The west is majority democratic. At no point do the leaders of western democratic nations retain office after their term has expired, unless re-elected. And we have agencies that ensure the voting is fair. There will probably always be a little corruption on the side, because people are greedy, but we crack down on it when it’s detected. Rwanda is shaping up to be a dictatorship, meaning that this clean, powerful nation could seek to assert dominance over the rest of Africa, making them an enemy of democracy.

I don't know if democracy is the best way to go. I live in Czech republic, we battled for democracy in the past, and 30 years ago, after 41 years of totalist regime under communist (and soviet) rule. Democracy is definitely much better than what the totality we experienced here (about 5% people here would disagree with me though). But is democracy the best regime? Is there any universally best regime? I don't know. In democracy mainstream media have great power, as they influence strongly with public opinion. Populists with good PR get more votes. People generally do not care much about the future and tend to vote for somebody who'll raise social benefits, pensions etc and people do not care if said populist party creates huge national debts. And this is natural issue of democracy, as you cannot expect majority of population being visionairies or people who care about nations long-term well being over their own short term-well being, as they just don't see the connection - which is to be expected, as they are not educated to. Most people would prefer to buy cheap food than fairly and ecologically produced one. You could change it via education towards healthy, self-and-nation responsible citizens who do what they love and bring great economical and scientific benefit to it's country. But until you get there, you're still in vicious loop. There is only one way to break out of this loop, or to get any progress in that matter. And that way is through exceptional persons, great leaders. Overall I'd say any progres is about people and about great leaders. If a person with great vision, good heart and strong leadership gets to power, the development in such country gets almost miraclously forward. And they do not have to be in politics - e.g. you can see that on example of Elon Musk. These people inspire others, inspire the change. Without visionairies among - and within - us, we just complain and repeat the same old all over again and again and again :) Have a great day everybody!
