Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad) joins us this week to talk about finding the subtext in roles and how she feels the most ‘herself’ while on set - however, she opens up on how the pressure, publicity, and politics behind the scenes brings out her anxieties. Krysten talks about her enjoyment while filming Breaking Bad and what it was like to shoot one of the most gut wrenching scenes anyone has seen on TV. We also talk about how special of a show ‘Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23’ was, how she had to grow up quickly in the world of modeling, and where she thinks the future of Jessica Jones is heading.

Funny, funny, funny. It was one of my favorite shows at the time. ABC sucks. They cut the B, but then they let Drew Carey and According to Jim run well past the point that anyone is watching. For both of these shows they literally kept making more of them even after they were off TV. Gotta push that agenda, right?

You touched on a topic that has infuriated me for years. The reason we _had_ five day 40 hour work weeks was twofold; unions pushed for it... AND Henry Ford pushed for it as well. He was a ruthless capitalist who was out for nothing but money. So he ran all the numbers, and he found that anything past 8 hours per day was _losing_ him money. There were more accidents, stoppages, and other mess ups. And, if they didn't have the weekends off, they wouldn't buy his cars. So, 40 hours it was. That research has been repeated in almost every type of work imaginable. White collar, blue collar, everything. And yet, companies have forgotten this. They push the workers just because they can, hurting themselves as well in the process.

Krysten and Dreama Walker were the perfect modern day "odd couple". June was a lovable everyday girl, the kind your parents want you to meet and marry. Then she is forced to shack up with Chloe who couldn't be more opposite! It was just side-splitting hilarious. And having James van Der Beek play himself was a stroke of comedic genius!

It was such a GREAT show. We bought both seasons years ago and we watch them at least two or three times a year. Not only is the writing wonderful, but the core three of her Dreama and VanDerBeek were simply put, lightning in a bottle.

It still frustrates and angers me that this show was axed. It was much better written than Friends and funnier. I have only one season of Friends because the other seasons are just the same old schmame olde BS over and over. And my god, they wasted a looot of time with the Ross/Rachel crap. They are perfect for each other because I can't stand either character, LOL.

I remember watching that show and it WAS great and hilarious, but also confusing. They played the episodes out of order for some reason and little random things in the timeline didn't make sense. I found the list of the intended order, so 'tis a great time for a marathon. Krysten is so naturally funny, we need her in more comedy movies/TV shows.

@@baddabaddabaddaswing The episode titles were right but were played out of order by the network. The copies I have were numbered wrong so I had to add the episode names and re-number my copies to match the intended order, pain in the ass. Hopefully they straightened it out on the DVD release.

Yes, it definitely aired out of order. If I remember right, they held off on some season 1 episodes and aired them in the middle of season 2, and jumbled them all around as well. The Dancing With the Stars plotline made no sense if you watched em as they aired.

A Thought i always had about Dont Trust the B is how funny a crossover with New Girl Woulda been. Like imagine sweet lovable Jess having to deal with the evil sociopathic Chloe for a full 22 minutes 😂

i remember seeing the trailer for this show when i was in middle school before seeing Hunger Games in theaters and was like oh my god this is the funniest thing i’ve ever seen. it was the first thing i ever binge watched and still to this day, 11 years later, is one of my favorite tv shows ever. i wish the version on hulu had season 2’s episodes in the right order because i’ve recommended the show to so many people who say season 2 didn’t make any sense.

DTABIA23 was my favorite show as a teen. It’s the kind of show that can come back like it never left. I hope Hulu or any streaming service brings it back with the original cast.

@Donald Donald But 2 broke girls wasn't high profile. That's why it got cancelled in its sixth season. The Neighborhood has Cedric the Entertainer in it and Beth's been on it since the beginning. It's wrapping up its 5th season.

There were a lot of high-quality and even ahead of their time shows caught up in that strange period between the last writers strike and when the pendulum of viewership was swinging from cableTV to streaming. They got cancelled not because they were bad but simply because of timing... *cough Hannibal cough

It was on the wrong network. ABC's brand was family comedy. They had adult shows that would occasionally air at 9:30 like Happy Endings and Apt. 23. Both those shows would have been huge hits on NBC at that time. They fit NBC's brand better than ABC's. Kudos to ABC though because their comedy department was on FIRE at that time. They couldn't miss if they tried.

I loved that sitcom, the network just screwed it up especially by showing episodes massively out of order to point they had to re-edit and redub episodes to cover up continuity errors that were created.

I love this interview. This show is FANTASTIC. Kristen confirms this with her attitude. Everyone on this show ROCKS. I re watch this show fairly often, and still laugh. This should have been huge.

I loved the B show. It is up there with St Elsewhere (my benchmark for excellence). I don't usually watch rerun shows, but I do rewatch often. I can see how much they loved being there. The chemistry between everybody was outstanding. Even characters that have very little to do with each other have meaningful interactions. That's not something you see often.

I was a suuuuuuper fan of the show when it was first aired 11 years ago (dang im old 😂)... And when it was cancelled, i was heartbroken!!! There were only two comedy shows that are close to my heart, this and the Golden Girls... Boy, have I laughed that hard watching these shows? They are hilarious! I'm still in my 30s, but Krysten is right about the writing and the cast was perfect! I still dont get it up to this day why the show was cancelled. I hope they bring it back!

I have given up on TV shows after this was killed off. Modern TV shows suck and have gone downhill ever since. I couldn't begin to count how many GREAT shows were axed after only one or two seasons while really dull, coma-inducing stuff like Supernatural drones on and on and on....

Having watched a compilation of her character from that series, I think maybe they cancelled it because it was intended that behavior like that of that character would soon thereafter be normalized, and now it has.

I imagine that some writers/creators might respect your ability to add your creative ideas to their work, however they wrote/created something specific and want that made, not your interpretation of it. I imagine letting everyone go off on their creative tangents would be chaos. I'm sure it works for some people but to suggest that's the best way to make a series/movie seems a little odd to me. I understand why someone like Kubrik wanted their actors to embody his story, not create their own.
