This is fascinating to watch. I'm a 60 year old bricklayer, I've been a mason since I was a kid. I've always worked on cars as a hobby but mostly mechanical stuff. Videos like this make me want to learn how to do what you're doing. I just picked up an Accord for next to nothing, clean older car but it has a couple small round dents not very deep about the size of a quarter. How do I get started? I haven't been this excited about learning something new for quite some time!

Myke.. I know this is a year ago..and to this day I see guys using fog boards but ya the Dent is gone on the board but you can still see it most times in natural light..is lines more accurate is fog for roughing it out..or is it personal preference?.would love a response thanks..much love always from Ireland 12 years later if not more 😊

Thanks for the question. The PDR boards are based on pure preference. It’s the about what reflection is best. It’s about how well a technician knows how to use and understand (read) their reflection. The more a tech can move their reflection board the better detail.

His light has tight parallel lines. The lines separate in the lows and pinch together in the highs. He taps down the areas where the lines are pinched until they become parallel.

Any reason you don't use some sort of protector to keep from distorting and chipping the edges of the access hole? Seems like protecting that should be part of the job.

Also….. how would you attack a similar deep dent that doesn’t have rear accessibility? Blend with a knock down tool to opening up and glue pull it?

Yes that’s correct and glue tabs.

what grit was that and what buff liquid
@jetsetjoey

It was 2500 grit wet/dry & the buffing compound was probably just a finishing/polishing.

That dent had a sharp crease in the center which is hard to get out. By pushing the metal down around the crease (opening the dent) he can soften the crease a bit. This makes it easier to push out. He did this several times until the crease was all but eliminated.

I rewound it over and over but still don't understand the steps involved. You seem to almost have it done then make it worse again. When my tools arrive I will practice, practice , and more practice. The board lines look so wavy it is hard to see the line when finishing it.

Read the other comments about "opening the dent up". He's trying to blend the sharp crease so he can push it out.
