There are so many millionaires seeking katanas, unaware what a kissaki stand for. But there is an uptrend in nihonto prices, although they are way below what they were in the 1980s when japan was bathing in money. Some undervalued then, like hundreds of $ Bizen blades, are now 10000$+.. The top ones seem to keep a steady value. Either case, i can understan why nihonto buyers cartels control prices.

I guess I can understand to humans will be human but it hurts me to see art understand they are works of art being lost to low appraisal the lower the price the less likely the person will spend money to polish if they could get approved to me obviously one Katana could be better with a Polish technique One could have a very Exquisite geometry one could be just normal however that one that is just average still to me is a work of art its history it's something you can pick up and reach back into time it hurts to see any nihonto under $1,000 welcome to the channel brother I think you're being too humble you do have some insight and what you're saying then I appreciate it sincerely for sharing with everyone here everyone has a little experience that they could the tribute to others

Katana FanBoy Reviewer Thank you. regardless how that missing Hojo Masamune was preserved, somewhere in the US, unless someone really damaged it, it still is priceless. Your polish job did not damage the katana, and if it turns out a 200,000$ 10th C sword. it can still be certified, polish inspected and then it continues with proper maintenance.

@@firstname7780 thank you. I took the precaution to preserve its geometry. I was turned away from professional polish because they didn't believe they could perfect a full restoration. I found it in very poor care . It was black as night with rust. So Just by the shape of the tang and not even a window polish it was decided to be muromachi period kaga. In short a simple $200 nihonto. I didn't want it to fade away and be lost to the future. I did what I could to save it from the rust with no choice. Luckily I was good enough to bring out the hamon and the hada and keep the geometry. After I finished I then showed others what I saw they then did asaid it heavily resembles early 10th and another said it was kaifu workings. Both a big difference from a muromachi kaga and far more valuable .Now if its really is kaifu the nihonto would dramatically change value. From what I remember about kaifu work is his swords were known to be extremely strong and durable. However the hamon didn't match. I was then shown pictures of a 10th century katana by the research of British museum curator of Asian Antiquities that lecture on early works . The hamon, the hada the tang are incredibly identical to 10th. I need just one more professional to break the dead lock and agree its 10th century. If you have any one that willing to look it over I would be in your in your favor. Any help. In the end its still heartbreaking for a nihonto to be hastily dated. I then wondered how many more have been as well. I wanted it to be looked over by someone in Japan that had a better eye for this but I had no contacts. I have the pictures and measurements.

@@firstname7780 I agree with you on future care. I could be wrong the hojo but I think it was found a few years ago. They matched the tang and the blood stain if we speak of the same nihonto

Awesome video! like how you were talking about the color of the steel with genuine whetstone polish from a togoshi, compared to a belt sharpened blade.Even more drastic is if the sword was done in sashikomi, or the newer kiesho,"hadori" polish.I personally prefer the older sashikomi however. Also the way they did the Nugui makes different colors of the finished steel. And I know each Ryu has their own "formula" of the process. My favorite is mino blades color,my muromachi kaniyoshi O wakazashi has a beautiful bluish color to it.Beautiful nihonto you have!!Have a Safe day!

Wow i didnt know you can get nihonto outside japan, they really check your luggage for katana at the airport. Besides the sharpness, are there other differences like metal composition etc? Because even with a cheap knife you can get it that sharp if your good at sharpening.

@@AncientMorbidity1991 I don't think I can do a 100 plus videos n have every belief the same with every time. naturally time to time we will have different veiws..This I learned. Different tastes different views is all about life. I still hold to mine. I'm far far far from being a nihonto expert I'm in nihonto 2nd grade thing but what littlei have learned I'm 100 percent rock solid sure . I dont think we will be changing any veiws . I really dont want to argue too much arguements in the katana community as is .. I don't want to be a negative influence to it . I respect your view . @@AncientMorbidity1991 if your wanting more information on nihontos a good book by John Yumoto called the samurai sword " will back up everything I'm saying and much more info.. the nihonto law change in Japan because of killings by the Yakuza Mafia decapitating people with them so they made them illegal and you had to apply for a license that's all I could say I respect your view I'm not going to hate for having different views if I offended you personally you have my apologies but I think two people could have different views and still be at peace
