If you have the time try to be curious and try a shit ton of stuff. It could even be trough video games if that can make it easier for you. Boot up something like ksp and maybe you will love it, this game is the origin story of a lot of engineering students, and you can do the same with history and a lot of other areas. But mostly be curious and when you have time read about different topics and dig, you will discover stuff you had never heard about.

Guys, the beauty about the STEM field is that it really doesn't matter which school you go to. There are smart people everywhere you can network with and talk to. Getting into your dream college might seem like a big deal in high school but it really isn't in the big picture. People lacking passion will just get a high paying job out of college and completely stagnate. That's where the actual difference will come in separating the truly successful and those who are moderately well off.

The stem field is generally always hiring (though it is starting to lower afaik rn), and almost every stem job will start you off with a higher than average income. It doesnt really matter what college you go to because at the end of the day you will get a degree and also a job. At that point its about connections and passion that let you climb the ladder and get to where you really want to be in the field if you truly strive for it Im just a freshman engineering student though so my understanding is limited but im pretty sure that's the gist of it

lol. You got a rich private school kid who’s a legacy. There’s no other explanation. edit: Very cringe video. I actually finally watched and what the video maker is espousing is pure marketing, coming from a former education counselor myself. The most important criteria are your GPA, your legacy status, and the acceptance rate of your high school. There's a list of well-known high schools around the world/in the US mostly who are well-known to the colleges already. if your GPA/AP scores are high, particularly when you're ranked near the top of a well-known high school, the schools will consider that strongly. If you seriously have no accomplishments proving a passion (basically, starting a company that had X product with Y revenue), then there's no good reason why a single essay would change anything. Mind you, essay DO matter. It's one place where you will have a voice in the admission counselor's mind. But if your legacy status is non-existent, your high school is not known for proving that accomplished scholars can come from there, and you have nothing in terms of test scores/personal projects to prove that you have potential, the schools will not admit you. The only reason I can think of is legacy status, the high school being extremely prestigious, athletics, and money. If you don't have those traits then the essay is worth nothing. The video poster promotes the idea that her services will have a substantial impact because I know for a fact that this is the most valuable part of the admissions counseling process. Nothing else from her services will come close. And it's also hard for a lot of younger people to talk about their experiences specifically.

My school obviously isn't the same as yours, but one piece of advice I would give you for high school is to not take too many AP classes. You'll tank your GPA unless you put in LOTS of effort. Dual credit classes are better than AP (from a university standpoint), just make sure the university you want to go to accepts your credits. Also, I would recommend talking to a college advisor when you get to high school, if you have one in your school. Another thing is to not slack of freshman year, because if you tank your GPA freshman year, then it's really hard to climb back up. I used to do band in highschool, and it's fun, I would recommend. Just takes more effort, plus you have marching band.

People really have to stop imagining the role race plays in admissions. Harvard is a private school and by no means guaranteed for anyone. Black people are 9.3% or something of Harvard, which is underrepresented as a % of the US population, which is 14% AA. it's only about 1900 people. if race was such a huge factor, then they're not even doing the bare minimum to represent black Americans to the point where they're proportional to the population. This should discredit any idea that race plays an overwhelming factor. Asians, on the other hand, are very overrepresented. Legacy, GPA, high school where they graduated from, and athletic status all play a much bigger role.

Omg this is so helpful tysm!! I have a question tho, how to u not find the work overwhelming and do u have any tips that can help lazy people like me😅😅
@Gizmo428
@Gizmo428 Ай бұрын
You’re not lazy u just don’t care. Find something u care about. I will share my decision as someone who really struggled to find motivation and to choose a college major… I grew up in a super green walkable city and later moved to a concrete city built for cars. My quality of life was severely hindered after moving so I realized living environment is vital to a lot of issues and inequities. In college I was studying biology and env. science for 2 years and it always felt like a chore. Like sorry but I just dont care about saving the salamanders… I care about enriching human lives and experiences. I quit bio and took classes in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and geography. I ended up studying geography as it best addressed the sources and solutions to obstacles we face in our everyday life. I now have a bachelors in geography and very much enjoyed ‘working’ for it. Consider your experiences and values. What aspects of your life do you wish were improved? Then pursue a related field. You will find it rewarding.

As far as I know, essays matter when there is a tie between two equally brilliant students. Or they can lower your chance of getting in if they are terrible. Every good student will likely do their homework, search for tips and deliver a decent essay anyways. The hype about essays is not justified. It makes it seem like passion is what matters and that everything is possible and bla bla bla. The story lacks something certainly.

@@att6479 sure! For starters u could try watching yt videos or any other videos for information on ur course syllabus to get u ready for the upcoming academic year, you could also try reading your textbooks (just the starting chapters tho) to be a little ahead of ur classmates and have an overall understanding of what ur academic year is going to look like Hope this helps!

lmao blaming other minorities for your own incompetence huh? Newsflash, affirmative action was overturned a while ago. Also as somebody put it above me, Black people are 9.3% or something of Harvard, which is underrepresented as a % of the US population, which is 14% AA. it's only about 1900 people. if race was such a huge factor, then they're not even doing the bare minimum to represent black Americans to the point where they're proportional to the population. This should discredit any idea that race plays an overwhelming factor. Asians, on the other hand, are very overrepresented.

@matthewdelossantos4501
@matthewdelossantos4501 Ай бұрын
Not exactly. It would be great if you did especially if you want to go to colleges like Stanford. However, there are many colleges with higher acceptance rates and you don't really need a great essay but it would be great to at least put something out there. Plus there are community colleges which can be another great way to get higher education.
