Yup and it’s why jump and shield have a 18 second cooldown. Funny enough though camping Shulk is still effective in smash ultimate because of how safe the game is he can literally just not fight until shield art comes back. Which will force the opponent to approach.

That's the cost of having an anime counter instead of a regular one.

Think he was referring to the Smash 4 version, that counter had some of the strongest raw kill power of counters and it went through shields. The ultimate version removed those two things while keeping all the bad things the same

Yea true, there is a debate on where he is currently for sure, but I'm glad he's better than the Smash 4 version. I like seeing characters getting the shine they deserve tho!

all aerials are safe on shield , huge hitboxes , amazing neutral , monado arts, top tier matchup spread.. shulk in no way is overrated lol

He's literally a widely agreed upon S tier character. He's just obnoxiously complex to the point where nobody wants to use him over characters that are equally potent but don't require a mathematics degree to use wellb

you also have to remember that SSBU is a very balanced Smash Game. You have characters all the way down in B- rank who can put in work and earn results even below him on the list. Saying Shulk isn't good just because of the results isn't looking at the full picture

Saying ultimate is a very balanced game is also hillarious when this game got characters like steve and kazuya and defensive strats are the strongest its ever been. Combine that with safety and advantage states and airdrift and much more. Shulk isn't even that complex anymore so that point is kind of mute. He literally was never that good. He just amounts to potential the character again and you would think the devs would have learned from their mistakes in 4 but did not and when has shulk been widely agreed to be S tier cause nowadays the highest he gets for placings is high tier to low top tier placings last i checked. Results and potential matter but it speaks volumes when there are no noteworthy results at all still. Even Sora who many considered mid tier for the longest has higher results than shulk at this point. Also if there are other characters like shulk but take less effort then shulk was never that good to begin with anyways. If you have a character that is hard to learn and master which for some reason many think shulk is like and a similar character easier to learn with the same reward then yes the easier character is picked and no that does not make the hard character as good as the easy one. In fact it makes the hard one irrelevant since investment, utility, and stats are what make great characters. Shulk doesn't even have cheese like most characters aside from shield which is vastly overrated and smash which can kill him just as easily.

If you think the transition did nothing for him, you never played Smash 4 Shulk. The reason we don’t see Shulk as much is because he’s extremely difficult to play. He’s not a character you really pick up as a secondary. He’s a character you need to main to be good with. Solo Shulk has made it to grand finals of a supermajor. Sure it’s not winning, but it speaks leagues to the viability of the character.

Steve doesn't make ult not balanced in the bigger picture and kazuya is not top 5 if you consider those 2 make ult unbalanced it's a big red flag for fp2 whiner Also defensive strat is the best in Brawl and that doesn't have anything to do with balance anyway Wdym shield is overrated, who else would escape exactly true combos without a tech that has never been used in tournament so far ? On top on having great range, safe buttons, it's just the matter on capitalizing every trick in the book between having busted kill power/recovery/weight/combos/speed which for now is difficult to optimize for sure. But saying he's mid tier is cope considering all he has in his kit
