Damn... the first time in years I have been slightly disappointed to not have a car... I live in Texas a bit north of Fort Worth and have been wanting to get a few solar panels with decent wattage. Best I could find was a bunch of ~68 dollar ones from arizona or so with slight defects. Found your channel though battery hookup and am going to keep my eye on these panels ;)

Those use Tyco Solarlok connectors, which were a competing connector standard to the MC4 standard back in the late 2000s. Note these aren't compatible with the Solarlok connectors Tyco makes now, which are MC4 compatible.

Hey! I responded to you right? I don’t have enough experience to know for sure. But considering each tube is in parallel with the next it seems logical they would handle partial shading better than a standard panel. However if square footage is a concern these aren’t great. About 8% compared to 20% efficient of newer/standard panels.

@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you have a big square to put them and the inverter takes 600v in them you can do a 6x6. So 6 in parallel 6 in series for ~550v and 14a. Or if it’s multiple mppt inputs cut it in half and do half to each input. Yeah only the two enda/corners need mc-4’s.

I have two of these that I bought new from Solyndra for an assessment and have sat in my basement for over 10 years. I was going to get rid of them as they are higher voltage but I guess there are compatible inverters/charge controllers? What inverter or charge controller would you recommend
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy Жыл бұрын
If you want something off grid an epever 150v charge controller would do the trick. Chilicon also makes grid tie micro inverters that work up to 120v so they would work. I’ve got a few of those if you want to buy one ;).

If only we knew! Build quality seems good but since these are new old stock we don't have any evidence of longevity. I'm sure they had a 25/30 year performance warranty but of course that's out the window since the company is defunct :).

@@BeeneEnergy like I said I'm new to all of this so no I haven't. The home at most will 1500sqft but most like less than 1000. I have a good southerly facing field on the front of our property about 75-100' from home site. I am going to work towards the most energy efficient appliance that I can get. Like mini splits for ac and mostly wood heat. Refrigerator washer drier led lighting and typical lap top and cell phone charging. 5 people 2 adults
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy 2 жыл бұрын
@@woodtecharmory9249 I figure there are multiple ways to go about this. Since you don’t know your utilization in kwh’s seeing as it’s not built you could build a system that should work and monitor/adjust consumption to match. Or overbuild. I think minimum would be a 15-20kwh battery bank and 5-10kw of solar. If you can get inexpensive panels then do that, it’ll help in those cloudy muggy days where you need ac but the sun just isn’t helping things. You can over panel the charge controller by a fair bit typically. Something like a Megarevo 8klna might work well for you. Gives you a good 8kw of solar across multiple mppt’s, split phase 8kw inverter, and connects to a standard 48v battery for storage. The jury is still out at how well the Megarevo will perform but for the roughly 2000 dollar price tag it’s pretty feature rich.

So my last month utility bill for a 2750sqft and 40x60 shop that's ac and we used 1819kwh we will be going to a 1000 sqft home with no shop and probably the most electric will be used for the fridge and ac which will be mini split. So I was thinking a 10000kw system should do it?

The shipping for a pallet of these will probably be about the cost of the panels. So $400 for the panels and $400 to ship. Certainly willing to do it if you wanted and it made sense for you. Or you could road trip to DFW and come grab some!

I've got a few that I left in my own yard if you are local and wanted some. The only issue I've had with them is I keep getting a GFCI fault when it rains. Could be my wiring or it could be something with the panels. Never heard anyone else mention it though and I sold a truckload or two of them.
