Artificial intelligence poses a threat of disinformation worldwide, via flooding social media with bots and deepfakes.
For instance, a campaign using AI to impersonate Omar al-Bashir, the former leader of Sudan, received hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok, adding online confusion to a country torn apart by civil war.
While AI is supercharging disinformation's spread and speed, some experts argue that AI can also fight against cybercrime.
Amil Khan, CEO of Valent Projects, which assesses political instability in the information environment, joined AI Decoded on The Context to discuss AI's ability to verify authenticity online.

Why are some people persuing this ridiculous AI? We don’t want or need it!! We need to return to a simple time and stop producing tat!! They don’t want you to use a plastic bag yet go into any toy shop and you’ll see they’re producing more plastic toys than ever before!! Go to a pound shop and see the sheer amount of small plastic tat they produce, the sheer amount of cheap shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc etc ……..that’s fine but expect YOU to use paper straws?
